It just wasn't smart of me to start it when I did. It was like my third item I ever made...I did the boots in the newbie shop then the mina scarf...then started the dress and I had noooo idea what I was doing at the time XD

This was the first version of the dress:

i still really like that version actually. if the folds were right it would be just as awesome of an item. The gold is nice.

I think I'm going to walk away from the dress for a while and try an idea for a shirt.

What about this, so far? Messing with shading using the dithering technique instead of the haphazard technique I was using before.

**Edit:

Previous

Still not quite grasping folds, I don't think. ^^; And I'm thinking of using the Healing palette and making the sleeves white to offset so much Mina Pink. @__@

**Fixed a pixel and added a little more shading.

blah blah blah. what i just told you outloud. try several different thingys. save that one. try it with white shirt, and white sleeves.

see if you like it better as a plain color, or one with a bit more variety. :]

Okay, how about this? All three variations- which one do you like more? I used Bunny instead of Healing. Should I try the healing palette? Is bunny too grey?

Pink sleeves definetly reminds me of the prep shirts. (i love them actually) Even though its a colored shirt and white sleeves. I had to go check to see what it was. They're also long sleeved.

The pink shirt may be throwing you off because it doesn't have a collar in sleeve color like the white shirt does. Try changing that maybe?

I like the white shirt with the pink sleeves best! I love the two colored shirt a lot!

Take a look at some of the tshirts we have on here up close - that's how I learned to shade a shirt :P

Also - I personally love the healing palette so much more than bunny XD It's just a touch whiter and I like that!

Not really. :)

@Maria, should I try the healing palette, then? What should I do to make the shading look better? I already looked at one of the shirts to shade the bust better than I had been trying to shade it. Haha.

I think there needs to be a hem definition in the collar and the bottom of the shirt where it is usually hemmed down there.

As for the shading - try not to use soooo much dithering! I'm really guilty of laying on the dithers too much and then Demo usually reminds me to back off the dithers XD

But a dither should be there to blend the shades. If you can tell there is a dither there, however, there is too much.

This tutorial has a some good info on dithers: Pixel Joint Forum: The Pixel Art Tutorial

For shirt examples - try newer shirts (a lot of the older items on mene used a looot of dithers. But the newer stuff relies less on the dither. Wishie, the main pixelist, does not do a ton of dither and her stuff is gorgeous!) . My favorite one to look at is the pumpkin tee: http://www.menewsha.com/marketplace/...p?itemid=11185

What exactly do you mean by creating a hem? I mean, I get what hems are because I occasionally make my own clothes, but I guess I don't really know how I'd go about pixeling them?

Umm let me see...

The sleeve and bottom have the hem line across the bottom.

So like in this tshirt:

There isn't an actual line all the way across but the way it's shaded alludes to a hem.

The pineapple shirt has more of a line all the way across:

Sooo, darken the collar a bit for a hem, the same with the bottom of the shirt? I'll take a closer look at your shirts. Thanks so much, you have no idea... well, you probably have a big idea of how much I appreciate your feedback.

I have 3 modes of criticism to choose from.
1. Sugarcoating, 2. CSI, and 3. Downright cruel.
Which ones?

No sugarcoating. I prefer CSI or cruel. Lay it on me.

PS. I didn't choose the green! Shadami did. >__>

'useless' tip : give a name for your design/item. It will make you yourself feel the importance of CONQUERING it.
May not work for everyone. XD But more for my convenience to call it.

Green dress.
DESIGN : State your aim and idea. I caught the keyword wind breezy flow. Seeing how... 'plain' it is, you can consider adding some detail. If you don't have other design element, then you HAVE to do such a good job on the 'wind breezy flow'. Which I see, pretty... flat at the moment.
SHAPE : What Mariaria did was right, find reference. I start out with reference, if not MAKE your own. Curtain, bedsheet, any cloth. Observe how they overlap each other.
1. That being said, currently, your skirt hem seemed to be a 'slant' dress. As in one side shorter and one side longer. Not that it is bad, but if that is not your intention then it have to be fix.
2. I find it even you have the 'pleat' in same width, it is hard to control the exact width it falls at the end, so it is not likely they are in the same size of curve.
3. That comes to, understand your fabric. I know you have this 'wind breezy', the same velocity of wind act differently on... a canvas and a silk.
SHADE : WHERE is your light source? Or more precise, where is Menewsha's light source? Look at the faceless base, the light spot indicating that the base is facing the light at the upper corner.
1. The shading at the folds shows like the light come from right directly on top.
2. Unless the plaid is fix on the waist, or else the fold lines should have varying lengths.

Two Tone Shirt
DESIGN : Simple. Good. Better start simple and easy before attempting a monster. You certainly can consider more designs. Basic is fine too.
SHAPE : Since it is a tight fit, following the shape is correct.
1. You may consider thicken the collar line as it is quite... slim.
SHADE : Menewsha's palette is rather inconsistent, I prefer the palette with good contrast instead of the soft ones.
Pink is a colour that is so bright to see the shade difference.
1. As they said, too many dithering, it makes the surface look noisy and pokey.
2. Outer line could use more shading.
3. For the middle one, I think you could have mis-shaded the curve line at the breast. Suppose to be white, now is pink, resulting a strange shape when zoom in.
4. The hem fold currently... it loooks like something is poking underneath. O__O
You have the shading on both side, making a fold out quite visible, to the point that it is too stand out to be a gentle fold.
