The Forest

It is a magical place, obviously. An enchanted place. A forest full of treasures that have yet to be found. Though not all treasures are gold and magical artifacts. Strange and wonderous creatures dwell in this forest, as well as magnificent and terrible ones. It is easy to lose one's way in this forest, so tread carefully. Though that might not help much. If you find a treasure, the forest might not let you leave with it. The pathways are ever changing, the trees ever turning. Shifting. The forest is alive, always moving. Breathing. Watching. How far will you venture forth? Are you seeking a treasure or just an adventure?

----------

Intro post

This place. He was already deep within it, and he had no idea where he was, no idea who he was. How had he gotten here? Not long had he woken, curled up at the base of a large tree, he had shaken off what had seemed to be left over particles from a spell. The residue had been all over him. Was the spell the reason he could not remember anything? Perhaps. Somehow that seemed likely, logical to him. He strode forward, through the oddly colored forest, the odd smelling place. It smelled heavily of magic...of course it was a place made of magic. It was old magic. Powerful and strange. He knew that. It was one of few things he was certain of.

His hand rested on the sword at his belt. A sword that could not be unsheathed. He had tried once before, and could come up with no reason. No explanation for why he would carry a weapon that could not be drawn. He stopped walking. He walked far, he was sure. The forest did not seem any brighter or any darker than when he had started, nor did it seem as if he were close to finding it's end. The black haired youth was dressed in all black. Black scarf about his neck, black sleeveless shirt, black gloves, a large belt, that his sword sheath was attached too, black pants, and thigh high black boots with low heels. A dragon tattoo adorned his left arm near the shoulder, and some strange red marking lived above, through and below his left eye.

He could not remember what meaning such things were supposed to have for him. He knew what he was though, or rather, he knew what he was not. He knew he was not human. Yet his memory was gone, and he wasn't sure where that word came from nor was he sure of all the things it entailed. It seemed to be ingrained into his very soul though, the knowledge, that he was not a..human..whatever it could be.

Wandering through the hellish maze that was that forest was a young woman. She had been wandering for hours and couldn't find the exit. She tried to use the trees to her advantage, but that fell through rather quickly. She was back to being lost. Lost, lost, lost.

And apart from all that, she certainly wasn't dressed to be trudging around in the forest. She wore a navy blue gown, trimmed in gold. It had a square neckline and tied on either side. The sleeves were large and puffy, but cinched in at the elbows quite dramatically and ended with form fitting sleeves that pointed over the backs of her hands. Her hair was long and a deep reddish brown, pulled into a long braid with a dusting of fringe over her cream colored forehead. Her green eyes swept back and forth as she walked further into the forest, attempting to, in some way, find a way out.

He shook his head, as if that would clear his mind and bring back his memory. It didn't, of course, put a few more left over particles of magic drifted down from his hair. He wrinkled his nose and sneezed lightly at it's scent. Well, he was getting no where rather fast. This place, it was so odd, so strange, and yet it seemed vaguely familiar to him. He heard a noise. The rustling of fabric.

The young man stepped around the tree he had paused beside, looking this way and that until he caught a glimpse of something. Or rather, someone. Perhaps this person knew where they were, perhaps this person even knew him. It was a bit unlikely, but that did not mean he couldn't try. Running a hand through his hair his left hand rested lightly on the pommel of the undrawable weapon at his left waist, he stepped forward. Moving towards the female.

His right eye was a dark green and his left was as red as the markings around it, both eyes regarded the female carefully. She seemed rather over dressed for a trek in the forest. No matter, he stepped right out infront of her. "Can you tell me, where I am?" His voice was soft, and it sounded uncertain and just as lost as he was. He hated the way his words had sounded in his own ears.

Running as fast as she could Katareina tried to shake off the beast following her. Earlier she had accidentally bumped into the beasts sleeping form and awoken him. Now it was pissed and chasing her. Katareina or Kat was wearing a black skin tight suit, famous among her people, with black knee high boots that had silver buckles. Wrapped around her was a hooded cloak that was clasped around her throat. The cloak was reversible, black on one side to blend into the shadows and a shimmery blue on the other. Right now the black side was out and it was trailing behind her as she ran. Strapped across her back was a quiver full of white oak gryphon arrows, and also her staff was shrunken and attached to her quiver. In her hand was a bow made of white oak, very rare like her arrows. Kat was very tall and slender, with honey kissed skin. Her hair was blood red, very long and wavy. Right now it was trailing behind her, liker her cloak, in a intricate braid as she ran. Her eyes were a piercing green with golden flecks through out her iris. Her ears were pointed and had many piercings.

Not even looking Kat grabbed an arrow cocked it, pointed the bow behind her and let go. She was the best marksmen of her kind and never missed. Behind her she heard a scream and she grinned. "Got it," she said in a British accent. Looking behind her she saw the beast running away, back towards its cage. Coming to a stop Kat strapped her bow to her back and grabbed her staff. Pushing a button the staff slid out to its full length. After shifting her cloak around she started walking. She had entered the forest in search of one of her people who had become lost. Now she to was lost in the enchanted forest, trying to make her way out.

She stumbled slightly, resting against the tree to her right as the dark raven flew a few feet away and calling out to her. It was so annoying, this hell-sent curse that robbed her of her sight for most of her waking moments, and since she could not figure out the time in this insufferable place, she would more than likely remain blind the entire time here.

Hissing softly as she slid down to the base of the tree, scraggly bark digging into her skin through the thin long sleeved, off the shoulder caramel-colored top and the forest green pair of low rise cargo pants, held to her waist with a thin black belt and brown boots on her feet. Darkly dirty blonde hair was pulled into a loose braid with only a few wips of bangs to hang in her face, her eyes covered by the bandages wrapped around them. Cecilia leaned her head back as she concentrated on her surroundings, hopefully able to either locate another being, or maybe an exit. Maybe the answer on why she woke up here. Setting the rather decent sized travel bag next to her hip she managed to rummage inside for a slim blade, the end of the hilt to the end of the sheath equaling the length of her fore arm, undoing and attaching the sheath to her hip.

She could hear another caw in the next tree over, the little raven obviously having seen something. Sighing she slowly stood up, using the tree for support, before moving towars where she heard the bird as it too took off to investigate whatever it was it had either seen or heard, the young female trailing behind it blindly.

((^_^ I think this one sounds like fun. I'll throw in some trouble for ya'll. *evil laugh*))

Drifting along beside the blind girl was a figure. He (who is the one on the far left) was a silent as the wind which he was formed from. Silver wisps of hair drew through the air like ink being pulled across water: they flit about for a while before fading into the sweet-smelling breeze that pushed its way toward Cecilia.
He had been watching her progress for a little while with no expression on his pale face. The apparition was more ghost than man as his winds fluttered about him like a loose cloak. Keeping a few feet away from Cecilia, he let his own winds tug at her clothing gently. What was a blind girl doing in the forest?
A shame that she will be lost here. The forest rarely allowed anything to leave its depths: not many survived its beauty and trial. Ariel whispered in the wind that curled gently about the blind girl's face: his haunting breath spoke of the magic in the forest, of his own curse, and of the inescapable beauty of the woods. Perhaps this girl could be the one he had been searching for.

((Don't mind Ariel. He's just following little miss Cecilia around.))

((Heh, Interesting that an angel attracted a spirit. Hopefully he couldn't become solid enough to ravish her. O.o (jk.) ))
The young woman paused, rosy pink petal soft lips tugging into a frown as her nose caught the vestiges of a sweet smell in the breeze that seemed to caress her body and tug at her clothes. While no body heat seemed to register to her senses, let alone the typical smell of a human body which was permeated by the body sweat then sometimes the conflicting scents of the hair products and what soap then lotion the body would use.

Sensing next to nothing, except magic, old magic at that, yet there was no smell of a physical being. Unseen was her brows as they furrowed together in her confusion. Sliding the thin strap of the bag off her shoulder, she dug inside to pull out a small, about 6-inch long 2-inch wide, silver cylinder. Pressing a small button which lengthened the cylinder into a pole that was only two inches about her small 5'5" frame. She carried the pole in one hand, using it to keep her from stumbling by assisting her in walking. The raven made another sound as it sensed more physical beings in the current direction it was flying, leading the blind human.

Crouching down Kat stuck her hand out to trace the print in front of her. With a heavy sigh she stood back up, her staff still clenched in her hand. "God why is it so hard to find the little twit." Her British accent was thick with anger. Looking around Kat started to walk to the right.

She was about to start running when she heard the call of a raven behind her. Curious Kat turned around and stared at it. Then she heard footsteps in the distance. Frowning she crouched down and pushed another button on her staff. At each end of the staff a large blade appeared.

Still crouched Kat began walking towards the source of the footsteps. When she was close she stopped and leaped up onto a branch. Kat quickly made her way up higher in the tree. Then taking a running leap she jumped into another tree, until she could see whoever it was.

Crouching on the branch Kat looked down and spotted a blind women walking by herself. She also saw some sort of spirit drifting by her. Kat decided to stay silent and watched, to see what would happen next.

hahahaha! \(.w.)/}}

Everything looked much more interesting upside down. Or, that is, if the thing itself was upside-down, and not you, because it looked so utterly ridiculous and out of place because it was facing the wrong side up and- Jessie sighed. There really wasn't a way to justify the fact that he had just spent maybe fifteen minutes giggling at how this particular tree in front of him had curved against a bolder protruding from the ground and had continued to grow on a curve.
For this plant things had taken a turn for the worse.
No, that was stupid. No more puns. Running bandaged fingers through his hair, the young boy hefted a heavy sigh. Couldn't he ever take things seriously? Or was finding himself in the middle of a rather queer forest (it was an unnatural hue of pink) not something that would strike him as odd?
Did he even remember deciding on going a walk? Well, yeah. Porkchops really wanted to go someplace. But why here?
"Pork! Get yer butt over here, girl!" The enchantment lacing Jessie's curiously deep voice resonated with that of the forest's old magic and resulted in a foul scent. It was faint, but definitely there. Well, that was an improvement from when he had almost caused his Grandmother's garden to completely rot. He guessed that the charms adorning his right ear, hand, and lower lip were working. Or at least diluting the potency of his hex.
After several moments of waiting, a deluge of dry, crackling cries descended upon the boy, followed shortly by the skeleton of a boar charging forward. Normally the collection of bones would have a hard time moving at all, yet the surrounding charm of the forest seemed to enhance its ties to this world. Because really, the bounding frame of a long-gone porker shouldn't be able to bulldoze a teenager like it had just done, or even be anything else than a heap of bones.
But since Jessie hoodooed state discouraged any real contact with animals, or humans for that matter, he had been brought to tying the soul of a slaughtered boar to its skeleton. Theoretically, the dead can be in company of other dead or cursed creatures, so Jessie was incredibly pleased with the easy relationship he had been able to create with the creature. It was surprisingly gentle, yet most of the things that Jessie had resurrected were. Which was uncommon for most necromancers, now that Jessie took a moment to think about it.
Most souls resented being brought back to this certain stage of life, and made it their mission to cause trouble for the one who had brought them back. Even the most secured hand (what most necromancers referred the souls they resurrected as) had been known to murder their master.
"Are ya nice to me 'cause yer afraid?" Jessie, having struggled to get Porkchops off his body, asked suddenly. Gripping either side of the beast's skull, he awaited an answer he knew wasn't coming. For all of the company she was, Porchops still left many desires of Jessie unfulfilled. Usually his Grandmother would have been there for him to talk with and to be a source of comfort. But after leaving her for a life abroad, Jessie no longer had any real human interaction.
Since necromancers, in a sense, lived in death, they harbored a certain feeling of unrest which was born from their constant interaction with the deceased. Anything living instinctively avoiding them thusly. In addition to this, Jessie had been, when he was younger, been used by a demon as a medium. The essence of it was stolen away inside the boy's right eye, and remained subdued, although altering Jessie's appearance so that two great shocks of jet black showed in his hair, along with a swirling darkness in one eye and pointed teeth. He looked like a demon himself, and if anyone had been able to stomach his necromancy, his startling features would have been unsettling enough to drive them away.
But Jessie had had a little more than a dozen years to get used to all of this. The only thing that disturbed him was that he couldn't remember why the demon had chosen him to be a container. He knew that there had been some sort of deal between the two of them, perhaps to strengthen his abilities, but otherwise he knew nothing. And it wasn't like he could try to discuss anything with the intelligence inside him; the creature remained doormat and inert.
Persistent squealing brought Jessie back from his contemplative state and he directed his attention at Porkchops. She paced in back and forth in front of the boy, demanding movement and adventure. Snorting, he picked himself up, dusted leaves and dirt off his large black tunic, and made sure that all weapons and materials on his person were in place before setting off again. Obviously his path would be desultory, but it was better for it to be flexible. Jessie could sense other souls in the forest and wanted to avoid them, at least for now.

Aryn stepped lightly through the forrest. Her singed clothing and ragged black hair were quite a sight. She didn't care to be seen though. Her only weapon, a bone and ceramic poisoned blade was hidden under her belt. Her unnatural purple eyes took in her surroundings. A raven cawed in the distance and a twig snap. She went into her mindsight, to see farther away, and was surprised when several glowing orbs were to her left. Pulling out of her mindsight she noticed they were close enough to see and she kicked herself as to why she had not seen them before. Under her cloak she put a hand on her bone dagger in caution. Being a thin girl at 4'11" she had to take extra precaution when coming in contact with strangers. She took a step towards them, noticing two seemed to be closer and a third was in a tree. She tensed, figuring she'd already been spotted if there was a tracker of some sort in the group.

The movement and adventure that Porkchops had demanded became something Jessie was not sure he wanted to provide. Stopped at a tree, slender and tall even more so than he, the boy realized that with the addition of yet another life in the forest, going about without bumping into someone would be near impossible, especially with his companion's perpetual snorting. Just now he could see the figure of a young women standing off in the distance. She looked nearly as wild as the forest, what with unkempt hair and burnt apparel.
Crossing both arms behind his head, Jessie decided that if he were to meet anyone, he'd instigate the encounter. At least it'd be easier to see what was coming that way. Nobody sneaking up.
He'd have to be conduct his movements with some caution, he knew. Usually anything he did required some concern, just because of his looks and occupation. But this was much more risky, judging by the tense body language of the girl. Who, he noticed, was focusing on another group of people further off. Jessie didn't really see the danger in them though, none of them looked like they knew the others. In fact, he just noticed, one of the people there was a spirit. Strange that it would take him so long to notice, regarding that he worked with that kind of entity all the time.
Shrugging it off, the young boy whistled lowly, signaling his boar which had been off plodding along aimlessly a few feet from him to come. He figured that the young women already knew he was there, but to make sure he began singing funny little rhymes as Porkchops snorted along beside him.
This was probably going to screw him over, but Jessie figured he could handle almost anything that was thrown his way.

The tall figure paused when Cecilia seemed to sense something. She is blind. She cannot see. Blinking slowly, the silver-haired male stepped in front of the woman. Curious, he tilted his head and reached forward: his cold fingertips brushed against Cecilia's cheek right around the time the scent of blood reached Ariel's nose.
Drawing back, his silver eyes narrowed as he scanned the trees. He'd known that the forest was gathering people in its depths in larger numbers recently, but he was surprised that he'd missed one so close to his position. A breeze wandered about the trees for a moment before Ariel's gaze climbed to where Kat was hidden. With the slightest of frowns marring his brow, he turned his attention back to Cecilia. If this girl isn't the one, then someone in this forest must be.
There was another: the sound of a snapping bit of underbrush brought Ariel's gaze darting to where Aryn stood still. Must they all be women? As though things couldn't get much worse. As he listened to the sounds of the forest continue, the male found some other sense picking up on yet another presense: Jessie. It was this particular force that made Ariel's wind a bit more biting: he was obviously unhappy with seeing a person who dealt with the dead here in the forest. He'd seen signs of the boy before, but he'd successfully avoided him until then. The spirit looked disgusted for a few moments before taking a few slow steps to catch up to the woman he was following.

Ariel reached forward again, this time using his gentle touch to caress the girl's neck. She was rather . . . striking. Cool fingers pulled back Cecilia's hair as Ariel stepped along beside her. He easily kept pace with her using his own long strides, though his physical presence was minimal: it was as though he was merely an image instead of something solid.
With a sigh that melted into the crisp wind that sparked up about them, Ariel disappeared . . . and then flickered into sight on the other side of his new companion. Once again a pale hand reached up to brush against her cheek. It had been so long since he'd seen another being: this forest knew how to keep Ariel alone. Oh, how he hated it: the forest, and being alone.

Instead of speaking with the girl, Ariel continued to guide her forward: he pushed unwilling leaves away from her, caused clouds of rather unpleasant scents in different directions, and used the wind to carry her scent just far enough to chase the creatures away. Throughout the entire time Cecilia traveled Ariel's gusts of wind and gentle caresses tugged at her sleeves and hair as though making sure she was real.
This couldn't be another mirage . . .?

((:XD Well . . . ah . . . goodness. Good thing Ariel isn't completely solid, now, isn't it?))

{{I love how Ariel hates Jessie XD}}

It was slightly amusing that the spirit found Jessie as an annoyance. There wasn't a doubt in the necromancer's mind that the entity believed that he, yes, the being was male, most definitely, was in some kind of jeopardy as long as Jessie was around. And the young boy did not blame him. Most people of his trade would have either enslaved or forced the spirit to move on by now. But even after the few days camping out and living in the presence of the soul, Jessie had developed no real interest in him. At least, not enough of one to actually try and do anything about his current state.
In the back of his mind, however, the adolescent knew he'd have to deal with him in some way. Usually if a spirit was left by it's own means for too long it would spell trouble for not only the living, but also the dead that could be caught and dragged back into this world unwillingly by the potent presence of the original intruder. Maybe it would be fun to act as an antagonist and pretend he wanted to enslave the spirit, though he'd probably need to know his name for that, and even something as simple as that would entail the use of his bells.
Trying for a simple conversation sounded much easier, and was probably prudent, concerning it would not only distract the ghost but also bring about the attention of the young women the creature was haunting.
Jessie gave up on his attempts at sounding his approach to the singed young lady in front of him and laughed softly. That spirit was all over that girl. If he had ever seen a bad case of obsession...

((lol. True. ))

The blind girl hitched a breath, barely stopping herself from flinching at teh ghostly cold touch on her cheek even as a metallic scent floated to her nose, covered eyes looking directly to the tree the smell was coming from. She was so tempted to help whatever it was that was bleeding, yet she was hesitant that she knew nothing from the scent on whether this would be a friend or a foe. Passing it by, she continued to walk as the raven flew ahead, its beady black eyes flashing crimson red every once in a while as if metaphysically calling to or for something.

She shivered lightly, a tingle racing down her spine as she felt something at her neck around the loose tendrils of her waist length braid. She did gasp at the sudden sense of sadness, an unbidden tear sliding down her left cheek that she quickly wiped away as she sneezed as bits of dust tickled the inside of her nose as leaves mysteriously moved away from her path. Sniffling, she wiped her hand on her pants before holding her arm out where the black bird softly dropped down onto the fleshy perch, the dark talons barely leaving an indent on the skin. It made a sound and Cecilia smiled. "Careful Nox. One might think you care." She replied, her voice much like that of the gentle sound of wind chimes during a light rainfall. "And yes my feathered companion, I know there is something there. But I will not do anything about it. It seems to be friendly, and I will not turn down any form of help." She admonished the bird mildly, even as she let her lips spread into a grin as the bird let off one more squawk before alighting to the air once again to lead the girl.

"Does it speak to you?" Ariel let his whispering words fill the silence that followed the raven's flight. It sounded as though he wouldn't be surprised if the bird had some form of communication. Shifting so he was bside Cecilia once again he reached up to wipe away her tear unsuccessfully. He wasn't solid enough.
Seeming facinated by the living, Ariel continued to touch the woman's blonde hair, observe her . . . she was certainly of interest to him. "Does the bird speak with you?" Once again he asked, his question sounding like a a whisper on the very breeze that carried it.

((heheh, the way that Ariel dislikes someone is just . . . a way to throw in some conflict. ;) I love everyone's characters, by the way! I just wish I could interact with ALL of them! lol))

((Sorry! I posted last night then pretty much went to bed. XD))

Aryn jumped slightly as a boy approached her and made a comment in his head about a blind girl and a spirit. She remained cautious but also tried to stay relaxed. She looked at the spirit, "Spirits enjoy the company of those who are not easily startled by their presence." She was somewhat disgusted by her own intellectual sounding answer but ignored the thought. "I'm surprised to see so many souls in such a short span of the forest." The forest had a mind of it's own though. If it brought two lost souls together, that usually meant they would both die from some large trial. She had no idea what this many souls entailed however. She eyed the boy who was much taller than her and slender. He had bandaged fingers but she didn't even try to reason out why that would be. "I'm Aryn." She said holding out a small, dirt smudged hand. If there was a trial coming it would be crucial to work together with somebody, although this was something the forest and never shown Aryn before.

((Esmme, Cecilia has dirty blonde hair, not red....))

Smiling softly, she wasn't surprised to hear a whisper of a voice speak. "Doesn't everything have a voice?" She countered, her empty hand reaching around to pull off the scrunchie that bound the ends of her hair to keep it in the plait. Running fingers through the strands, she pulled the braid apart to let it flow to below her waist a little. "Everything has a voice, one just has to have the skill to hear, or must have lost something else to gain an understanding." She spoke softly, alluding to her blindness being the main reason she can understand the raven. Whic while not completely false, was also not completely true. "What is this place, my companion of the wind?" She questioned, almost wondering if whatever it was that followed her would communicate.

{{Ah, that's fine, Hayzel. :) I'm surprised I stayed up so late myself!}}

Funny. Jessie hadn't remembered ever speaking out loud. But then he had never had the best short-term memory to begin with. Now bringing his full attention to the singed gir- Aryn, she had introduced herself. Aryn. Aryn. Aryn. A, r, y, n, Aryn. Jessie repeated her name furiously as he shook the girl's hand in hopes of remembering it, not that he even had a chance to actually socialize. But even if she did what most people had done before her and flown from his company, he'd be damned (or even more so than a necromancer already was) if he met her somewhere else in life and forgot her name! It tickled him to see people forget his name while he still hung on to theirs. That was probably a bad thing though, a little sadistic.
"Nice name! Mine's Julias, grand to meetchya!" Jessie liked lying about his name, too.

((Sorry, I should have mentioned that she is psychic. XD I use my OC other places so I forget who knows and who doesn't. x.x))

Aryn eyed the boy cautiously before giving a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you Julias." Her deep purple eyes looked him up and down. When they shook hands Aryn had the strangest feeling of death, but that could mean a hundred different things. He could be obsessed with death, a murderer, seen a murder, been impacted by a murder, a mortician, maybe even a grave robber. Aryn didn't entertain herself with the possibilities as it was usually futile and she was usually wrong, and she could only hear what people were actively or somewhat loudly thinking. Even then, it tended be that most thoughts she heard included a strong emotion such as humor, terror or anger. She pulled back her hand under her cloak, resting it on the hidden hilt of her dagger. "Have you been in the forest for long? Usually when people meet in the forest it's a bad omen but I've never seen so many souls so close together. She has some plan for us..." Aryn trailed off, referring to the forest. Aryn had been in the forest all of her life and knew it well although even she didn't know everything and she certainly didn't pretend to. She was still cautious and ready for anything that the forest could throw at her. When she was young she learned the ability of her Mindsight which could see energies that most humans could not. She could see when a dark energy was brewing and new to stay away. The forest however had many veins of energy, weaved together like the black widow's web. Pulses of energy surged through the fibers going from tree to plant to human life. Everything sustaining everything else. Aryn was lost in thought but came to again remembering the boy she had just met. Her purple eyes switched back to him. "Do you have any skill?" She asked coyly.

The young man stood there patiently, until something else seemed to catch his attention. His hand wrapped gently around the hilt of the sword that could not be unsheathed, and he turned slightly. Those mismatched eyes narrowed slightly, for a fleeting moment he had thought that he had sensed something. Though he couldn't say what it had been, or how he had sensed it. Green eye and red eye both stared intently though he could only stare so intently for so long. The odd pinkish color of this odd forest seemed to make his eyes want to bleed.

A bit to bright and dull at the same time for his liking. Tongue flicked out slightly to moisten his lips, and he watched his surrounding area rather carefully. He had no memory. He had no idea what creatures might be harmful to him in this place, or, if there were others around. Who could he trust? With no memory it would be hard to trust even himself. For a brief moment he glanced up, towards the sky. A sudden desire to fly upon him. He had no wings..Perhaps, he'd had wings before. A different form or something? His brow creased and he shook his head. He didn't like not knowing anything about this forest, and most of all he didn't like not knowing anything about himself. He couldn't even remember his own name.
