No Hello Kitties for me, just a bunch of random ones like an alligator, an owl, a panda, a seal wearing a hog costume, a black dog, a purple llama, etc...

A seal in a hog costume has to be the most random.

Those were popular a while back, you'd see seals wearing random costumes of other animals in claw machines and stuff.

That sounds kind of cute, actually. XD
I don't get a lot of plushies on my own. Most of mine were gifts.

Mine are a mix. :) Most of them are my own, but there are a few from others, like this bunny plushie that a former classmate got from a claw machine, and the alligator plushie from a couple of kids that I tutored a few years ago.

I'm getting a ton of Hello Kitty gifts these days because that's the only character my mom has decided isn't too childish for me at my age.

I wonder why? o_O;

She's like that. Women's roles, growing up…

Well, Hello Kitty isn't a cartoon. But my sister likes her more than me, so I think that's also why my mom doesn't mind. If more people my age walked around with Disney princesses and Barbie and whatnot, she wouldn't say no to me. She insists I start acting like a responsible grown-up.

I know there's a Hello Kitty anime out there...

Because of them always saying that manga is for kids (despite there being manga like Berserk, Claymore, and etc. that are obviously targeted towards adults), I took a picture of this gray-haired, middle-aged guy wearing a suit who looked like he's some sort of office supervisor riding the subway reading Shonen Jump to show them wrong, but they just said, "Japan's the exception." -____-

So I'm going to watch for people here that are a lot older than me, who look like 'successful responsible adults' reading manga or doing something that is stereotypically considered 'childish' and take pictures of them to prove them wrong.

When I point out college students wearing "childish" backpacks to my mom, she just laughs and wonders why in the world they would do that.

Yeah, a bunch of graduate students or master's program students would be reading/watching manga or anime and I'd point them out to my dad and he'd just say, "They're exceptions."

...Then who ought to count as the not-exceptions!?

That's stupid. Just because you like something that is deemed 'childish' doesn't mean you're childish. You can be a really mature, responsible person and like something 'childish' like hello kitty and barbie. it's amatter of TASTE. not MATURITY. There are millions of grown ups who ADORE hello kitty. it actually frustrates me a little that your mom, amane, bans you from stuff like that just because she feels that you should be an 'adult'. if you are an adult, you have every damn right to get anything in hello kitty and barbie or whatever thing is childish. Adults do whatever they want, so they can choose whatever they want.
