You should be able to eat within a few hours after having it done. I was drinking warm, not hot, beef and chicken broth...extreme hot and cold temperatures are bad for the mouth after having teeth pulled. I was eating White Castle burgers later that night, since they're soft and I needed something more than pudding and broth for my hunger.
Just watch which part of your mouth you're chewing with and be sure to keep the surgery area clean with warm salt water and you should be fine (read as, follow your oral surgeon's orders)
