Lazurine, an inhabitant of one of the sleepy little villages located in the most powerful of all the kingdoms, Hafling, was walking to his favorite fruit stand. He walked over to the stand and began picking out several promising looking apples when Jaspine, the fruit stand owner, began telling Lazurine about his walk home late last night. Jaspine spoke of hearing strange growling in the bushes that lined the busy red-bricked streets of Hafling. Lazurine looked at Jaspine with a glare of disbelief and yet a sense of wonder. He had always trusted Jaspine and never suspected him of being unstable.
Jaspine continued to speak of the mysterious growls, and that he had heard them before. He said that he only hears them on nights with full moons and clear skies. Lazurine had heard enough, he paid the man 17 fleeches for the 4 apples and left the loon at his fruit stand.
"I'm going to have to find a new fruit stand, Jaspine is totally off his rocker!", Lazurine explained to his best friend since childhood, Saque. Saque retorted "Oh, Jaspine isn't the only one hearing strange noises in the night, Melana from Eddy's Bead shop said that she heard some scratching outside her walls one night.
