The outbreak played on TV like a bad movie, a few red dots starting in New York City, then another large city... then another. Soon the dots seemed to cover the map. People were afraid to leave their house, the sick were rounded up and taken away. Everything would have been okay, until people hide their loved ones, not wanting them to be taken away. Suddenly whole families were infected, photos of homes bathed in blood surfaced. The internet was abuzz with theories, one word being passed around the most, 'zombies'. Zombies. It sounded crazy at first, but then a video began circulating, a person so pale each vein visible, their eyes milky white, bathed in blood. It panned down, the person... creature, was eating something. No, not something, someone. Similar videos seemed to surface, it couldn't be denied any longer.

It took only weeks for things to go to hell from there, people panicked, running from the cities in droves, taking the infection with them. Then the looting began, things were crazy, no one would go to work, planes no longer flew, services closed down. At first the government tried to introduce martial law, but even the soldiers deserted their posts, leaving to protect their families, saving their own lives. Some towns rallied together, fighting off any infected, driving them away. Other towns fell apart, people unwilling to work together. Mistrust created mayhem, people killed the healthy, whoever stood in their way.

"You have the water?" Andrew asked with a groan as he hefted the large pack up the stairs of the camper. It wasn't in the best of shape, but the wheels were sound and the truck had a hitch. It would work for now. The musty smell reminded him of the fact he found it in an open field, where it probably had been sitting for the last ten years. His cropped, black hair dripped with sweat. They had to drag the camper through the field, too afraid to puncture the tires of the truck in what may be hiding in the knee high grass.

Andrew and Alan had been driving on the dirt road, looking for a new place to hide out, when they stumbled upon an old farmhouse. Too bad someone had set it on fire, though not a surprise. What remained of the front door explained why, he could still see part of the red 'X' that had been painted on it. They must have been infected, and taken care of... They had been about to leave when Alan spotted the camper. It was a small one, a queen size bed at the front, a small dinette, and bathroom. It was probably twenty years old, but in decent condition. They had managed to find what he assumed were once cookie sheets, charred but still intact, and nailed them over the windows.

"Water right here!" Alan called out, pulling a child's wagon behind him, laden with jugs of water. They had managed to find a well to refill their supplies. After loading the water into the camper, Alan put the wagon in the back of the truck. "Well, guess we'll keep moving." It was Alan who spoke once more, he ran his fingers through his thick, brown hair, scanning the field with pale green eyes. Andrew stood next to him, sighing. Would they ever make it back home to see their families? Going to college on the other side of the country didn't seem like such a good idea now.

Alan and Andrew had been best friends since they were babies, grew up next to each other in the same small town, went to the same school, played football together, got scholarships together. Alan was tall and muscular, but not overly so he had the speed of the two. His hair brown and shaggy and his eyes pale green, his skin pretty pale compared to Andrew's more olive skin. While he wasn't unattractive, girls often preferred Andrew, his more rugged features to Alan's boyish features. Andrew was a bit shorter than Alan, with cropped black hair and blue eyes, but he was muscular, ripped even, with a rugged face.

"Let's go!" Andrew said, patting Alan on the back. It wasn't long before they were back on the road, the camper bumping along behind them. It was noisy on the dirt road and they hoped they didn't attach too much attention, but they had little choice.

What had seemed like a few isolated cases had broken out into a full fledged epidemic. The stories had been almost unbelievable. Talk of modern day, real life zombies had seemed far fetched, but as the number of cases grew, it became more obvious that this was more than a hoax.

Within a matter of weeks, things went to hell. There seemed to be no force on earth that could stop the cannibalistic hoards, even the military failing.
------------

Daryl packed up food and supplies in Violet's minivan. The two had never been particularly close before this ordeal, never having much in common other than attending the same classes. They'd decided to escape together after their school had been overrun, neither of them having a family to travel with.

"You ready to go?" He called to his classmate. He'd finished packing. "Just a minute." She called back, lugging a large bag and tossing it into the back seat. "Ok, now I'm ready." She got behind the wheel of the car and Daryl hopped into the passenger side. Where they were going, they didn't really know, but anything was better than being in such a highly populated area. They needed to get out in the country.

After driving for a couple of hours, the two stumbled upon a farm house. It seemed to be safe enough. It was secure and didn't seem to be occupied. It was old, and not very insulated, but it would do for a night or two while the students formed a plan.

"Damn it!" Alan grumbled, banging his fist on the hood of the truck. It would figure that something would go wrong when it was starting to get late. When he opened the hood, steam billowed out, nearly burning his face. A stupid mistake, as he knew better than to mess around with a car so shortly after it had been in use. He was sure the engine had just overheated, the gauge must be broken, because it hadn't moved one bit to indicate an issue. At least he noticed the issue before completely destroying it. Of course if he couldn't manage to get his hands on some coolant, and some spare time to let the truck sit, it wouldn't much matter. The sun already hung low in the sky, he didn't like the idea of being so out in the open at dark, even with the new found camper.

"Not good?" Andrew asked, coming around to the front of the truck. He scanned the area, it was pretty much vacant farm land. Both good and bad, he figured, since at least there wasn't many places for things to hide, but at the same time, they were all btu sitting ducks. He raked his hands through his hair and leaned against the truck. Was that a house just down the road? The sun was shining in his eyes which made it hard to tell. He wondered if they could manage to push the truck, though it may be difficult with the trailer on the back.

The hood slammed shut, causing Andrew to jump. "Look's like we're stuck here for the night." Alan didn't sound too happy about that, not that he blamed him. "I'd rather not, I see a house over there, I think..." He pointed in the direction they had been headed anyways, towards the setting sun. Alan squinted, he didn't see anything, but then again, his eyesight wasn't the best. Perhaps he shouldn't have put off going to get his eyes checked out so long, now there was little chance of doing anything about it.

"Push!" Andrew said with a groan, his feet dug into the gravel road beneath him as he stood on the passenger side of the truck, the door open, his hands gripping the frame as he tried to force the vehicle forward. Alan did the same, but he also struggled to steer when they finally got it moving. Who knew all those years of football would turn out to be so useful. It was slow going, but once they got moving it was easy enough to keep the truck going down the lane, even with the camper being towed behind. It was almost dark by the time they were anywhere near the house, dread filled Andrew as he saw the minivan out front. He hadn't expected other people to be here, but the tracks looked fresh enough. Would they be friendly? Alan read his mind, reaching into the truck and pulling out the shotgun, Andrew did the same.

"Anyone in there?"

As night fell, Daryl and Violet tried to settle in for the night. They made a small fire in the middle of the barn floor, very careful to control said fire so they wouldn't burn down the barn. They set up sleeping bags and opened a can of Ravioli to cook over their fire pit. It wasn't the most wholesome thing to eat for supper, but they were just thankful to have something to eat at all. It was quiet between them, neither of them really knowing what to say to the other. Violet finally broke the silence.

"So.." She began. "What were you planning to do after school?"

Daryl thought for a moment before answering the question. "Dunno...Just figured anything was better than working at Burger King forever. What about you?"

Violet pursed her lips. "I wanted to open my own gift shop. Somewhere to buy cute trinkets."

Daryl snickered at Violet's answer. "Why not just open the place before going to school? Why would you want to waste time on a four year business degree?"

"Hey! I wanted to know what i was doing before I got in over my head! Besides. You're one to talk. You didn't even know what you wanted to do with your degree." She defended.

"Fair enough." The young man responded, shrugging.

Just as the food was finally warm enough to eat, a knock sounded on the heavy, wooden barn door.

"Anyone in there?" A man's voice called, making the two jump in surprise. It wasn't often they heard human voices anymore. Daryl pulled a pistol from the waist of his rugged jeans, preparing to defend the two of them if the need arose.

"Who is it an' what do ya want?" He barked, refusing to open the door even a sliver. Violet got up from being seated on her sleeping bag. "Daryl! What if they need help!" She insisted, being overly trusting by nature. She opened the door a crack and peaked out at the armed men.

"Hello." She greeted the men. "I'm Violet. Are you ok?"

Daryl's eyes narrowed. He didn't know these strangers. What if they were infected? Or thieves? Regardless of his doubts though, Violet made it very clear that they were welcome to stay if they needed to. Daryl knew arguing would be futile, so he remained silent, simply listening to see what these men might want.

The hostile voice that greeted them wasn't a good sign, Andrew was ready to turn and hurry back to the truck. It may have been a bad idea to move it so close to these strangers, if they proved to be less than friendly, escape might be difficult. Would the truck even start? Before he could usher Alan away, a female voice sounded behind the large barn door.

"We're fine, just having a bit of vehicle trouble and though to check out the area..." They didn't need much, they had food, water, most supplies they'd need, other than perhaps a good conversation. In the past two weeks they had fought more than they had in the past 22 years. Who knew survival would drive such a wedge between them at times? "Mind if we share your fire?" It was better to join their fire around inside the barn, than to start their own out in the open. Alan turned back to the camper, "We'll offer some food in trade..." They didn't have a lot to spare, but they wouldn't let others be hungry.

Andrew lowered his weapon and stood back a few feet, showing he meant no harm. Surely they wouldn't kill them just for being here? Alan went back to the camper and dug through a few bags. He pulled out a bag of jerky, an exciting find in one of their most recent searches, as well as a few candy bars. They had lucked out that anything had been left, but an overturned shelf had hid things the other looters missed. A gallon jug of water completed what he figured would be a good enough meal, and returned to the barn.

"Going to let us in or not?" Andrew asked with a smile.

The strangers offered food in exchange for a spot by the fire, claiming to have had car trouble up the road. Daryl wasn't buying it, not wanting to take a chance on strangers who could potentially be dangerous. The men lowered their guns.

"Going to let us in or not?" The more muscular man of the two asked. Daryl pulled violet to the side.

"I don't think we should trust them." He whispered to her and she gave him a look.

"What if it was us stuck with no shelter? Wouldn't you hope someone would help us? They can't be much older than us and they seem friendly.." Violet defended the two strangers.

With a sigh, and still with a lot of reservations, Daryl agreed with his fellow student. He wouldn't want to be stuck out in the open in this new world.

"Fine, but we keep an eye on them." He whispered, backing away from the door and swinging it open.

"Come on in." Violet offered a cheery smile. "I'm Violet, this is Daryl. What are your names?" She was happy to have more people in their small group. As the saying went, there was strength in numbers. They'd be much safer from the zombies if they defended each other.

"I'm Andrew, that is Alan." He stepped forward, Alan following behind him. He wasn't sure the barn was the best place to hide out, the wood didn't seem as sturdy as it could be, but then he hadn't seen much danger in the area. He grinned at the girl, Violet she said her name was. "Nice to meet you, ma'am."

Alan rolled his eyes, of course Andrew wouldn't miss the opportunity to be a flirt. He pushed pass, the pack slung over his shoulder slipping. "Not much, but it's tasty." He was too tired to be bothered with much and dropped down to the floor near the fire. After dumping what he considered to be dinner on the floor beside him, he tore open the bag of jerky. "Help yourself." He said through a mouthful of jerky. It wasn't much, but it was protein, and it would help keep them alive another day. Besides, he was being selfish and didn't want to share their... better food. The canned goods they had gotten last week were all but sacred to him, and he wanted to use them sparingly, something Andrew didn't agree with. If Andrew had his way, he'd eat whatever, whenever without rationing.

Violet couldn't help but smile shyly and blush at the attention she was receiving from Andrew. She hadn't had many boyfriends in school, always being passed over for pretty blondes. She stuck close to the attractive man, clearly seeking more attention.

Daryl on the other hand, hung back, observing quietly. Alan offered jerky which Violet took eagerly. Neither of the former students had eaten meat in a few days, living off of canned pastas and ramen noodles. Daryl refused the offer, not wanting to take a change on the food being tainted.

"So, where are you from?" Violet asked, mostly speaking to Andrew, not paying much mind to Alan at all. She went on and on, chatting with Andrew until she eventually tuckered out and feel asleep. It'd been a long week and it'd been a while since she'd felt safe enough to really, deeply sleep. Daryl's own eyes started to feel very heavy as he stared into the crackling fire which had started to die down. It was getting late, Daryl's watch reading one A.M. He just couldn't bring himself to relax, fully believing these men were out to hurt them.

-------

Early the next morning, Violet rose with a yawn and a stretch that made her joint crack and pop pleasantly. "Good Morning!" She spoke loudly with no regard to anyone that might still be sleeping. Daryl jolted awake, becoming ever alert in an instant. He's finally dozed at some point, but his sleep had been restless and light.

"Ain't you ever learned 'bout manners?" He groaned irritably, the Georgian accent in his voice particularly obvious in his half-awake state.

"Rise and shine! It's nearly noon!" She threw the barn doors open, allowing sunlight to flood in.

Daryl whined irritably and pulled him sleeping bag over his head, attempting to block out the harsh light.

"I'm making breakfast!" She declared, pulling out powered eggs and water from their supplies. She rekindled the fire, starting her cooking.

"I think I saw a well not far from here. Ima go take a bath of sorts." Daryl declared, leaving the barn with a bar of soap, shampoo, and a change of clothes.

Alan rolled his eyes, it would figure even when the world seemed to be ending, Andrew would be flirting, and find a good receptive to it. Not that it mattered to him, if it made Andrew happy, who was he to complain?

Daryl hadn't seemed like much of a talker, so instead Alan sat off to the side, enjoying just a few minutes of down time. Would it be easy enough to get Andrew to head out tomorrow? Hopefully he didn't want to stay here with these people. One had only eyes for Andrew, the other... well it was obvious he wasn't happy. That thought kept him awake far long than he should have been. It felt like hours before he scooted back, leaning against the wall of the barn, hidden in the shadows and closed his eyes. It was easy to become used to sleeping while sitting up, and much safer he felt, since he had an easy time moving quickly if the need arose.

Andrew had chatted away the night before stretching out on the floor, probably closer to Violet than what was needed, and slept quite soundly.

---

Alan wasn't sure he could even consider what he had just done sleep, but the sunlight that flooded in made him jolt and he was on his feet. Why would she throw open the doors like that? Anything could have been out there and she could have alerted it to their presence.

He grabbed the bag of jerky, gnawing on a piece, before the leaving the barn with it, the four candy bars remaining on the floor. Payment, he supposed, for allowing them shelter for the night. Today they could work on the camper and truck, and hopefully be on their way. Unless it took too long, then they might have to postpone until tomorrow, unless they wanted to drive at night, which wasn't very appealing.

"What's for breakfast?" Andrew grumbled, sitting up and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He ran his hand through his hair, messing up the short, dark locks. His black t-shirt was covered in dirt and hay from sleeping on the floor, it made him wish he had bothered to grab a blanket from the camper before going to sleep, but he hated to risk wandering in the dark. He didn't see Alan anywhere, he was probably already out trying to fix the truck, as if they were on a strict schedule and needed to leave immediately. All he could was sigh and watch as Violet made breakfast.

Violet cheerfully mixed the power and water together in a skillet over the fire, making prison style scrambled eggs. Andrew seemed to be the most interested in what she was cooking, Alan and Daryl both heading out of the barn to do their own thing.

"You know..." Violet began, her tone a bit shy and nervous. "I was thinking...We could all travel together if you guys would be willing. It's just been Daryl and I for a while now and we could use some extra company." And protection Violet thought, though she omitted that part out loud. She wasn't particularly strong and Daryl wasn't exactly a very manly man. He seemed to be tired and grouchy all the time and having a handsome, friendly, man like Andrew around was a highly appealing change of pace.

---

Daryl bathed himself and changed, feeling like a new person now that he was clean. He headed back to the barn, thinking about their new company. Surely they'd be on their own way today, right? There was a small part of him that was glad it wasn't just him and Violet anymore. They'd been vulnerable on their own, but at the same time, there was no telling if Alan and Andrew would turn on them. After all, people had been hostile before, but now that the world had come seemingly to an end, that hostility was magnified. Everyone looked after themselves and their own groups now a days.

On the way back to the barn, Daryl caught sight of Alan who appeared to be working on his truck.

"You want some help?" Daryl offered, making an attempt to be friendly, but his tone suggested he was still a bit suspicious and untrusting. "I don't know nothin' bout cars, but if you tell me what to do, I'm pretty good 'bout following directions..." Admittedly, Daryl'd never even really looked under the hood of a vehicle before. Growing up a girl, his brother (who'd practically raised him) hadn't seen the point in teaching him such a thing. He'd never even learned to change a tire, which could prove an issue if Violet's van ever had any trouble. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from Alan. He couldn't be all bad if he hadn't attacked them in the night. Perhaps a little trust would be ok for now.

Andrew watched her cook, the smell making his stomach rumble. Her question surprised him, "I don't know how Alan would feel about that..." he mumbled, it wasn't that Alan didn't like people, or was in charge, but they tried to do their best to get along. Yet would it be so bad to have others around? They might bicker less, and it was more people to keep watch, even if they had to worry about more mouths to feed.

---

Alan heard someone come up and looked to see Daryl, "Uh well, I need some coolant, if we can find some... Have you guys had a look around? I noticed some oil cans in the barn, perhaps there is other things..." He shrugged and turned back to the truck. If he couldn't keep it cool, they would struggle to get very far. He figured he was being rude, but they had things they needed to do, if they wanted to ever get home to their families, well... No, he couldn't think on that right now, he needed to focus. Yet even as he fiddled with a few things in the truck, fixing a loose belt, his mind wandered. How had Daryl and Violet gotten so far? They looked a little weak to be out on their own. Ugh, Andrew would have probably noticed that as well and bother him to let them come along...

When had he gotten so rude? While he waited on Daryl, he dug through the camper, organizing and going through their supplies. They had enough for about two weeks, if they didn't eat to excess, but he would prefer more. Of course they could hunt, he was good enough at it, they had their rifles, but bullets were another issue entirely. Could they trap? He didn't know much about it, but Andrew's father had been into it, so perhaps he would know. He threw a duffle bag out the door, it was full of extra supplies they had picked up. Mostly clothes and the likes, which turned out to be too small for them. Sure they were men's clothes, but either of those two couldn't be too picky, could they?

Violet finished her cooking and offered Andrew a plate before fixing her own. She truly hoped Andrew could convince Alan to stay. She was happy with their set up.

------

Daryl nodded at Alan's request. "Coolant? Alright." He headed off to find what Alan requested. There was a shed behind the barn. More than likely, if there was coolant around here, it would be in the shed, right?

Sure enough, in the shed was coolant among other things that might be useful later on. Daryl grabbed the coolant and headed back towards the truck.

------
As he was heading back, a groaning sound caught Daryl's attention. He spun around wildly, looking for the source of the sound. Behind him was a man with clouded eyes and skin white as a sheet. Daryl stumbled backwards, breath catching in his throat and heart racing. He scrambled back to his feet, taking off towards the truck.

"ALAN!" He screamed, trying to get the man's attention. The zombie was closing in fast. It must've been very fresh, as it caught the young man with no problem, yanking him backwards by the hair. Daryl struggled, but he wasn't going to be able to hold his own very long.

"ALAN PLEASE!" He cried frantically.

It took only seconds for Andrew to clean his plate of the eggs, despite them still behind rather hot. It had been a nice change, he only wished he could have had some bacon. And waffles. And coffee. Oh yes, coffee. He groaned as he thought about it. Perhaps they'd be able to find some when they next scavenged, some that wasn't a frilly cappuccino, or one of those stupid pods for a machine that was now useless. He wanted a tin of the darkest, blackest coffee he could get. The bitter the better, in his mind. Before he could ask Violet about it, he noticed someone all but screaming outside. "Do you hear that?"

---

Alan was digging through another duffle bag inside the camper, looking for a clean shirt to wear. He founded a t-shirt, some midwestern college name on the front, and laid it out on the bed. As he was in the process of taking off the shirt, stained with oil and dirt, he heard someone scream his name. It took him a minute to untangle his arms, tossing the clean shirt to the side and bolting from the camper before finishing getting dressed. Before he jumped to the ground he grabbed the crowbar they kept near the door, not sure what he might encounter.

He had little time to react, Daryl was grabbed by what he assumed was one of the infected. No time for his gun, he ran towards him, hoping it wasn't too late already. They had avoided as many encounters as they could, choosing to run instead of fight, and he had only taken out two of these on his own before. Yet was there a choice?

Years of running had him there in seconds and he didn't allow himself a moment to think before he swung the crowbar, a sickening sound as it connected with the side of the infected's head. He wasn't sure it was enough, but the fear and adrenaline took over and he found himself repeatedly slamming the crowbar into its head, willing it to let go, to fall to the ground. Blood had splattered further than he thought possible, he could see it on his hands, dripping from the crowbar. Even when it fell to the ground he kept swinging, slamming down with all the force he could muster.

Upon hearing a scream, Violet jumped from her spot on the barn floor, dashing to the door. She headed towards the noise, spotting Alan and Daryl a little ways off. One of the infected seemed to have a hold on Daryl, and Alan quickly sprung into action, beating the previously human creature to a bloody mess.

---------

Daryl stared vacantly at the creature that Alan was beating beyond recognition, stunned by the event he'd just been a part off. Had Alan not acted when he did, Daryl would be dead, or at the very least, infected. Alan had saved his life....

The man kept beating the already dead zombie, clearly not satisfied that it was really dead. Violet frowned and wrapped an arm around a very silent Daryl, leading him back to the barn. She settled him in his sleeping bag, though he insisted that he was alright.

----------

After settling Daryl in the barn and making sure he was ok, Violet walked back out, wishing to speak with Andrew and Alan.

"Alan?" She hoped he was alright. He'd seemed very stressed about really killing that zombie. "Thank you...for helping Daryl, you know?"

She turned to Andrew next, though she was speaking to both of them.

"We really need your help." She admitted. "Please stay with us. Or let us come with you if you're leaving. We won't make it on our own. Today proved that I think. We have plenty of food to share, Daryl's great at hunting and fishing, and I can clean any game we catch...." She tried to make herself and Daryl sound like assets as opposed to burdens.

Andrew had followed Violet from the barn, surprised to see the fury and rage on Alan's face as he beat the infected. He was forced to pull Alan away, who had entirely destroyed what was once the head of the creature. Apparently Alan had snapped, and was still not fully alright, considering he was gasping for air and struggling to get away from Andrew. When he let Alan go, his friend took several steps away before turning to look back at them. His eyes were wide, a strained expression on his face. "You alright?" Andrew asked, taking a step towards him. Alan only moved back a few more steps. He didn't know what caused this sort of reaction, they had taken out a few before... though it had been with a gun from a distance.

Alan didn't answer Violet when she returned, he retreated further, towards the well that was a short distance away. Andrew didn't bother to give chase, instead he turned to Violet, wiping his hands on his pants, the blood leaving streaks on the jeans. "He'll be fine. I think." He didn't look so certain, but perhaps Alan just needed a moment to process it, and to calm down. "No, I don't think we could leave you guys out here on your own." He scratched his head, not sure if it was okay that he was speaking for the both of them. "We're trying to make our way home, to check on our families, yah know? If you don't mind comin' along, I'm sure Alan wont mind." It was going to be a long trip, it wouldn't hurt to have some company.

"I'll talk with Alan when he calms down, and we can sit and make some plans... We'll probably stay here another night or two, but then we'll move on." He nodded towards the barn, "Why don't you go inside, check on Daryl. I'm going to clean this up..." He wasn't sure how, he could move the body, but blood seemed to be splattered everywhere. They would need to make sure they were careful around it, if they didn't want to risk getting infected. "Any blood on him needs to get cleaned off, carefully? Make sure it doesn't get into any cuts..." He hoped Alan had not been compromised in his fury. He knew he didn't have any cuts, but there was a hell of a lot of blood.

Leaving Violet behind, he searched the area for some wood. They needed to get rid of the body if they didn't want to attract more of them, so burning it seemed to be their only option. It didn't take long to throw together a small pile. Alan had finished washing the blood from himself and silently helped Andrew drag the gory mess to the pile of wood. They had made it a long distance from the barn, but he still didn't feel good about it. Not that they had much of a choice. Alan went back to the camper and got a lighter and some fluid, as well as changed into a clean pair of jeans. When he returned her threw the bloodied jeans on the pile and doused it with lighter fluid. It was quick to light and the flames were hot, causing them to back away. Still Alan said nothing, but Andrew didn't press him as they made their way back into the barn.

Violet was highly relieved when Andrew said they could travel along with the men. That meant they wouldn't be alone in this scary new world. She took Andrew's advice and went to check on Daryl to make sure he was ok and get him out of his bloody clothes. When she entered the barn, Daryl was slumped over in his sleeping bag, staring at the barn wall.

"Hey.." She announced her presence as to not startle him. "Are you ok?" She questioned, moving a bit closer.

"m fine." He grunted, his tone gruff and callous. He was clearly not ok.

"We need to get you out of those clothes and get all that blood off." Violet demanded, pulling Daryl up to his feet. He looked a bit stunned still and had blood all over him. She lead him out to the well, grabbing him some clean clothes on the way out of the barn.

After cleaning up and getting into clean clothes, Daryl followed Violet back into the barn. His mind was still reeling from the shock of almost being killed. He looked Alan's way. Was he ok? Daryl was sure the event had been particularly traumatizing for him. He owed Alan his life now. The least he could do was show his gratitude.

"Hey man...." He looked Alan's way. "I just wanted to say thank you for earlier. And um...I'm sorry I've been so untrustin til now." He swallowed nervously. He'd never been particularly good at talking to handsome men and Alan was admittedly attractive. "If there's anythang I can ever do for ya, don't hesitate to ask..." He offered.

Andrew left the barn and hurried to the camper, they needed some sort of distraction from the events of this morning. He grabbed a large bag of chips, BBQ flavoured, not his favourite but at this point beggars couldn't be choosers. He also grabbed a small box, containing a deck of Uno cards. Sure, the game was kind of lame, but it was better than nothing. Perhaps, with their group growing larger, they should add to their collection of games. Surely they'd encounter some at the next supply run. Distractions in hand he went back to the barn, watching at Alan and Daryl talked to each other off to the side. "Got something for us to do..."

Alan only grunted in reply to Daryl, not in the mood for a conversation. He didn't know what came over him, but he didn't like it. What was happening to him? He frowned and stood up, pushing pass Andrew who stood in the entry of the barn. He needed a good distraction, fixing the truck should prove to be one. Unfortunately that meant seeing the still burning pile of wood and flesh, as well as the blood that splattered onto the side of the barn. He didn't want to stay here anymore, didn't want to look at a reminder of his loss of control.

Daryl must have found the coolant, since he spied a bottle of it on the ground near where he had been attacked. He plucked the bottle up, ignoring the splattered blood that covered it, and made his way back to the truck. This should be enough to get it going, and then he would insist him and Andrew leave. The crowbar propped against the outside of the camper gave him pause, he hadn't done anything wrong, he had saved Daryl even, but that thing had once been a person, probably had a family...

He couldn't think about that now, instead he threw open the hood of the truck and unscrewed the cap before filling it with coolant. With that done he climbed behind the wheel, turning the key and was happy when it started up without issue. He let it run for a moment, hoping that was the only issue.

"Sorry about him. He's... well, he'll be fine, I reckon but he must need some alone time. Care for a game?" He asked Violet and Daryl, holding up the box of Uno cards. He would check on Alan in a little bit, but he was a grown man and could handle himself. By the time he had sat down, opened the bag of chips, and dealt the cards, he could hear the sound of the truck starting. Ah, so Alan was just trying to keep busy. Couldn't blame him for that.
