Moving is a good way to help pare down all your "stuff".
We've been in our current house for 20 years now, which is the longest I've ever lived anywhere. We have accumulated quite a bit of "stuff", so it must be time to move again!

That does seem to be the signal, doesn't it? Just when you think you can't fit another item in the house...

Oh my `laughs` We've actually rented a storage space. Now we're paying money to have more "stuff".

Thats a bummer, granny... I never liked renting storage space... Its better just to have a huge garage. xD Whenever I get too much junk I just get a garage sale and sell most of it...

Every year since Tom died, I've gone through a major purge to get rid of things we don't need that either belonged to him and don't retain any sentimental value or that Lily has outgrown. We find a few nuggets, but usually wind up donating ridiculous amounts of stuff.

My parents hoard. Dealing with their estate will require a moving truck or two, and I wish I was kidding. When my grandparents passed, we discovered washing machines from the 50s and 60s. They absolutely never tossed anything out.

We were supposed to have a garage sale yesterday, but it was raining.

We do have a very large garage, but it's full of "stuff" also! I'm a bit of a pack rat, I'm afraid.

Haha thats ok, granny... Lots of people have that habit. I used to be the same way but ever since I graduated high school and started moving around a lot more I had to get rid of most of my stuff... I still have my drum set and art supplies tho. I didn't have the heart to sell em.

I believe that's how I started, Thoth.
Just one or two boxes after college. Then it seemed to grow exponentially with time.

Most of what I'm holding on to are old books. Honestly, how many books on mid-Atlantic colonial religious history does one need? Right now, being in cosmetology school, it's hard not to acquire a lot of manikin heads. Having some of those dot the shelves freaks the kids out a bit.

Hello everyone. =) I almost can't believe the event is still on. XD"

I keep a lot of stuff I can't make myself throw/give away, mostly clothes, discs, papers and books. And now that I have to move everything in and out every summer, I keep asking myself, "Do you really want to have to move this down the stairs a few months later?" whenever I'm out looking at something I want to buy, but don't really need. XD"

Thats so funny anna... I can't imagine anyone keeping ice cream wrappers. XD Silly. Oh hey you should make a collage out of them! that would be cool.

*nod* I hope I don't get to that point, granny... I'm keeping a sharp eye on my wasteful spending...

I'm the same way elmira... I have hundreds of books. I should sell most of them but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Haha I can imagine... I was scared of ceramic dolls as a kid... I thought they were possessed. lol.

I moved so much when I was younger that I really get a bit freaked if there's too much stuff. When Tom died, I couldn't deal with the stuff, so it sat and sat. I had a friend come over and was really brutal about me needing to get rid of stuff to move on, and he was so right. Still, it took me being pregnant and needing a nursery to clear out Tom's old office. I think he'd be pleased.

I think that if there wasn't this sense of uncertainty on my part about staying in this house, I'd hoard stuff. Right now, I don't want to get rid of the books because there's a chance I'll go back to grad school and get a PhD. Who knows...

Some ceramic dolls are creepy... :stare: Or maybe that's because I've seen/read/heard too many horror stories involving them.

I like those fancy Victorian dolls. But they're expensive. And delicate. And really expensive and delicate. OTL

I also like those BB Joint Dolls, but they're even MORE expensive, especially if you want a custom!

Hmmm yea, its always very hard to clear out stuff of a deceased, loved one, elmira, but its good you were finally able to overcome that obstacle and clean things up. Yes, never give up. You could someday get your ph.d... like how some someday I want to become a doctor.

My old nanas doll would always creep me out... The skin was white, eyes red and the white hair was falling out... ><

That...That does sound really creepy, Thoth... =X

Yeah it used to give me nightmares, luenola... I have no idea what happened to it after nana died... x----x

Noooes... don't we still have a couple hrs before the event ends?

They're those really fancy dolls with joints and stuff... x3x Google yourself a picture??

@ Thoth - xD; Haha! If I have the money, I'd love to travel when I grow up... But I still want a house to come home to!

We have about 50 minutes left.

My nana collected dolls and had cases for them. It was quite obsessive. She left them for us... I have a few of them, but it's not the same when they're still in a box. Still, I can't imagine having them out and playing with them. Ebay sellers have some that are haunted. Who in the world would want to spend money on something creepy to begin with and allegedly haunted? :)

Yes! And people pay a lot more than any sane person would fork over for one! I have some nice swampland... do you think they'd go for it if I said it was haunted??

*laughs* I wouldn't know, Anna. Dolls are hardly my area. XD"

They sell haunted dolls on Ebay? Orz. Maybe they'd interest aspiring exorcists who want to practice their exorcism techniques or something.

The ones that used to give me nightmares, I think, were the trolls my sister collected. She bought them in various different sizes and displayed them everywhere in the room, and when the lights were turned off at night, you'd see their eyes gleaming in the moonlight filtering in through the window, all staring at you because she insisted they face the rest of the room. :stare: The funny thing is that my mom was more creeped out by them than I was.
