Well the two main characters are the girl and guy. The guy is a famous dragon rider on his way to a race. He owns the ship because of his father who wants him to continue as a ships captain but he wants to continue with his dragon racing. Every dragon is different and every dragon has its own special ability along with their ability to fly. He stops to investigate the planet his father told him never to go on because of what had happened there.

The girl is the last surviver. She had been introduced the the strange shadow people but had somehow gotten the a serum that made her invincible to their powers all over her so she didn't die when they attacked. Now the planet hadn't moved passed that day because of one of the shadows abilities to make the planets time stand still. And 3000 years have passed since that time. She's lived in a time of eternal darkness but to her it doesn't seem very long.

The story starts with her seeing his ship pass over where she was searching for food and him landing in a valley close by.
