After the sweltering heat of the day, an evening within deliciously cool tiled rooms is a welcome change.
But how to pass the hours before sleep comes for you? Perhaps a little celluloid entertainment is in order?

From 1926, The Adventures of Prince Achmed is the oldest surviving full-length animated film in existance. Created by Lotte Reiniger, it took several years of meticulous work to make, each independently moving piece was hand cut by Reiniger, then placed and filmed in a way similar to stop motion techniques today.

I hope you like it! Usually, I like to post full movies, but this is only the first act. Which might be a better way of doing it, because it allows you to see part of it, and then decide if you want to watch more

Well, it was taken from stories from the 1001 Nights, via the Violet Fairy Book. So there's plenty more where that came from! Or in keeping with the thread, you could check out Tales of the Alhambra I enjoyed reading that when I was younger, and I'm tempted to read it again.

It's really beautiful and soothing, I think. I first saw it years ago, in a theatre with a live score playing. It was lovely.

@Shadami: Yeah, there is a translated version, but they are understandably protecting their copyright and keeping it off the internet. The fact that it is a silent film is one of the few reasons I still think it works, what with the text only doing minimal explanation of the events, and the rest being down to body language. There are some pretty good synopses out there, luckily.

@Elmira: I'm really pleased people have enjoyed it so much! I know time is precious during an event, so taking time out to watch something isn't always an appealing option
