All great genres that relate to each other. The problem is people don't understand them and tend to add bands that relate only by image and not by sound. Most genres are created based on an evolution of a certian genre of music and create a new subgenre. Goth Rock, Death Rock and Horror Punk all come from the Post Punk scene and relate with each other. Death Rock is similar to Horror Punk, especially vocals but sometimes differ. Horror Punk tend to stick with more Punk influence, while Death Rock kind of devoted to be something different. Goth Rock really went into a few directions. Some of it has more of a rock sound and not so deviant as Punk can be. Vocally they are different too. A few bands can be related to both Punk and Goth depending on the era and album they produced.

Here are some great bands from these genres.

45 Grave (Horror Punk/ Death Rock)
Siouxsie and the Banshees (Goth Rock/ Punk Rock)
The Cruxshadows (Darkwave)
Bella Morte (Darkwave/ Death Rock)
The Damned (Goth Rock/ Punk Rock)
Sisters of Mercy (Goth Rock)
Bauhaus (Goth Rock)
Joy Division (Post Punk and controversially called Goth Rock)
Christian Death (Death Rock)

I have more bands but these are just some of my personal favorites. Any questions about the genre or bands you believe to be goth and like to know, just ask. :)

No they are not related. Industrial and Goth come from different backgrounds and have totally different sounds.

What people misunderstand about Industrial music is that it is very noisy and electronic sounding (duh lol) but not dancable like EBM is. EBM has more of an association with Goth, do to the combination called Darkwave... But that is a debated genre in itself.

Well there are a few more bands. Here is a list that I like from my VF profile.

45 Grave
Faith and the Muse
The Sisters of Mercy
Southern Death Cult
Death Cult
The Cult
Bella Morte
The Cruxshadows
Siouxie and the Banshees
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
The Damned
The Virgin Prunes
Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry
London After Midnight
Christian Death
Rozz Williams
Premature Ejaculations
Fields of the Nephilim
Sex Gang Children
Cinema Strange
Alien Sex Fiend
Bauhaus
The Creatures
Danse Society
Flesh for Lulu
The Legendary Pink Dots
The Mission (UK)
Nosferatu
Peter Murphy
Shadow Project
Specimen
UK Decay
Black Tape for a Blue Girl
Miranda's Sex Garden
Dead Can Dance
Rasputina
Joy Division
The Cramps
X Ray Spex
The New York Dolls
The Dresden Dolls

And also not to mention a few EBM, Industrial and Electronic based bands.

VNV Nation
Ministry
Revolting Cocks
Front 242
Pig
KMFDM
Android Lust
Apoptygma Berzerk
CombiChrist
Electric Hellfire Club
Velvet Acid Christ
X Marks the Pedwalk

Thank you very much.
^^
I hadn't quite learned that yet, as I've only recently even discovered these wonderful genres.
The artist listing will definetly be helpful though.
I think Industrial being danceable to could be debated however, but that's merely my opinion.
A friend of mine loves The Dresden Dolls and got to go to a concert of theirs.
I'll have to see if I can get him listening to some of the others as well.
Again, thank you very much for posting this!

It's actually not debatable at all. It's quite simple fact that Industrial and dance should never be in the same sentence. Industrial refers to music such as Throbbing Gristle and SPK as opposed to EBM which is what she listed. There's no debate. Industrial=/=Dancable.
The rest of the thread is wonderful, though!

Moonspell would be Gothic Metal (Nothing related to Goth Rock besides maybe theatrically) and VAC would be Terror EBM or Aggrotech.

The 69 Eyes would probably be considered Gothic Metal and Rasputina is just Alternative Rock, even though I do love them.
