Perhaps landing on a backwater planet with an underdeveloped society hadn't been the best plan after all. At least that's what one certain woman was finding out, it wasn't that she felt she was in any immediate danger, except perhaps that having to flee from a bunch of bandits wasn't exactly what she'd had on her schedule of things to do today. From what her translators had managed to gather and feed into her mind in audio she could understand, the men had noted her odd hair color and eye color, even the strange color of her lips, not to mention a few vulgarities she'd rather not have heard, but she needed to hear everything they said for the translator to pick up on their language and act as the middle-machine for when she finally tried talking back, for now it was mostly fleeing for her life.

They were surprisingly quick, these people, she'd never seen humanoids that could move as quick as these, although technically her own species were quick and agile, but these people could give them a run for their money. Not to mention they were doing something that, frankly, her people had waved off as a complete impossibility.. Magic.. MAGIC!

They were literally defying the laws of physics. They had mages that were flinging fireballs in her way to throw her off. However they had no idea what she was capable of either. The question became; how would magic fair against advanced technology? But then she remembered in the back of her mind, showing something like technology on a backwater planet was questionable, if she ever did something like that.. Well.. There would be trouble..

She was running in nothing more than a borrowed set of clothes, a long white dress that reached up to her shoulders, loose sleeves, she wore a tan cloak with a hood, though it was a little late to hide her face. She wanted to summon her armor, but she couldn't. It would have been so easy to deal with these fools, but she had to do it some other way. She ran with padded shoes keeping her feet relatively comfortable as she weaved through trees.

She practically came to a dead halt as several more men showed up in front of her, well, that was just fantastic, a trap? However their faces changed as she ran dead towards them as though she had no plan of stopping. She jumped and twisted in the air, planting both her feet into the chest of one of the men, he was bowled back by the force as she rolled in the air, catching a second man in the jaw. He was sent reeling back whilst she landed on the ground but her motions continued as she fluidly rose towards the third man, leaping off the ground and smashing her knee into the underside of his jaw. He hit the ground, flat out and she hit the ground running again, however the second man hadn't been downed like she'd hoped, he grabbed her cloak and pulled her back, wrapping a beefy arm around her neck and lifting her off the ground where she dangled, hands trying to pull his arm away, she had panicked and didn't consider the right way to fight back, by the time she thought about it, it was too later.

Her red eyes rolled up into her head as she was suffocated, before he let go, throwing the green-haired-woman to the ground where she coughed and spluttered, Her lungs desperately filling with oxygen once more, but the strength had left her body. She heard comments between the men as they began to surround her, they pointed out the damage she'd caused to three men in such a short space of time, even the one who had caught her was bleeding from the mouth and spitting out a few broken off teeth. More expletives and more vulgarities were translated.. She had a good idea where this might be going.. But if they tried it, she was going to defend herself properly. To hell with intergalactic law on protecting under developed planets..

Under the spotted rays of light drifting through the gently swaying trees, a man knelt quietly among a group of brush and bramble, still as his patient gaze remained locked on his target. He held one arm outstretched before him, braced by the other as he waited for an opportune moment to make his move on the large, grey-furred creature lurking just a few yards beyond him. However, he held no true weapon. Carefully, he drew a deep breath in, prepared to release his attack when the creature turned in his direction with a start, it's three pairs of eyes grazing the forest above him. Then, without another moment's notice, it was off and running faster than he could've ever hoped to keep pace with. Cursing under his breath, he let his arms drop and stood up from his disguised position to scowl. He had just chased off his dinner.

It wasn't until another few quiet moments had passed and he had his gear packed that he heard what had actually startled his prey-- the heavy footsteps of a chase sounding behind him. Turning to look in surprise at the last of the large men that trampled through the forest, he rose a curious eyebrow as he saw him hurling a fireball into the trees before him. "Reckless..." He muttered, shaking his head, but following quickly none the less. Men like that could only be up to no good, and once that oddly mischievous gleam was lit in his eyes, he had to follow through with whatever peaked his interest.

He slipped through the higher branches of the trees at a slightly quicker pace than the group managed, fully catching up once the men seemed to have caught their prey. Curious to find what the ruckus had been about, he swung to hang closely below the branch he had stopped on, still under the cover of the trees' shadows as his gaze found the girl within the grasp of one of them. While he wasn't typically inclined to helping strangers in these parts, upon seeing her held in the chokehold, he leapt into action. She had been released by the time he reached the man holding her, but that didn't stall the shined metallic extension to his right arm from plunging into the man's back. That men fell to his knees, blood dropping from his back and front, then landed with a heavy thud on the ground before her.

Before the other men had time to react, he had leapt over the body to stand before her defensively, his form covered in dark leathers that fit tightly around his muscles torso, but with cloth pants that hung loose on his legs to allow agile movement. He didn't speak to her, instead issuing a cold threat in the language of her assailants, voice gruff as he spoke with a bite. They seemed to understand, but hesitated in his presence, eyes still grazing over the girl. Frown lining his lips, he pounced up smoothly to land a firm kick to one's jaw, a sharp crack sounding, which may be seen as odd due to his lack of a true weapon still, then propelled himself to land before a second man, thrusting his right arm upwards to tear at the flesh of his stomach. With those three fallen, any other present ran, yelling gibberish in their own language.

After a moment of standing still, watching them with keen eyes, he finally turned to look at her from over his shoulder. Still, he saw the image of the light leaving her eyes as she had been strangled, and anger flourished within him. He didn't let himself even think of their vulgar words. Clearing his throat and trying to calm himself, he finally turned to address her, offering her a hand to stand up with if she hadn't done so already.

"Are you alright?" He asked a moment later, expression relatively blank, but his eyebrows were just upturned enough that his worry may be noticeable. When he spoke, it was in a different tongue than the others, one he felt her more likely to know.

Well.. That is certainly convenient.. The words in her head formed as the burly man that had strangled her fell before her, no more life in his eyes. Stone dead. She glanced up bleary-eyed at first towards her savior, but she was still having a hard time focusing. She saw his movements, fast, sharp, the sound of the impacts alone were powerful, the force generated by his attacks alone, not to mention the amount these men could take before falling was incredible. And then he turned, he spoke, her translator finally pulled together the samples and she heard words she could understand, words she was rather thankful for, the apparent rescuer was definitely a rescuer and not some territorial primate that was looking to claim her as his own property instead. That was certainly promising.

She stared at his hand a moment, only briefly, a simple pause, but then she looked at the ground and tried to push herself up, her arms trembled and her body practically gave way, but she caught herself, not falling face first into the dirt, but it would have been close. She looked up again, once more at the offered hand and reached up to it. She pursed her green lips and held tight onto his hand, pulling herself to her feet, wobbly at first, having to use both hands to keep herself steady as she eventually looked at his face and froze in place, red eyes staring at him, not so much as if she'd seen a ghost, but rather in a sort of amazement, perhaps in a way that could have been identified as simple awe.

Not bad looking for a primate.. She bit down on that thought and her lips parted slightly before she finally spoke,
"Oh.. Uhm.. You asked me a question.. Yes.. I'm-I'm-I'm.. Fine.. I'm fine.. Yes.." She replied, a little disjointed, a little hesitant, but she then drew her hands away from his arm, maybe she wouldn't have had time to use her armor, her body still felt a little sore and tired, drained. Now that she was no longer running for her life, the fatigue loomed over her shoulder like an unwelcome guest.
A part of her wanted to indignantly state she could have taken them, but that would have been rude, plus he had also saved her any trouble she might have gotten off planet if some-one learned she was using high tech equipment in front of backwater civilians.. So that part of her begrudgingly subsided, she supposed it was also a little noble pride being hurt that she needed to be rescued in this situation, especially as it was her own fault in the first place..

She fiddled with her dress, then drew her long green ponytail back into her hood, lifting it up over her head a little and staring at the man from its shade, lips partly pursed again before she spoke once more. the translators were kicking in nicely as they motivated her jaw and tongue to move in the correct way, one could almost not tell she wasn't from this world, even if she didn't sound exactly local to the area,
"Is there somewhere safer I can be? Food that I may eat? I am greatly tired. I have.." She paused a moment then continued, "Journeyed.. Far.. Quite far.."

As she stared down his offered hand instead of taking it, he rose an eyebrow at her curiously, and ended up watching her attempt to get up on her own quietly. It failed, needless to say, her body seeming weak at the moment. She may have been running for quite a while... His steady eyes grazed hers as she finally accepted his offer to help her up, his hand not having moved as she had tried to get up without it. When both of her hands clutched his, he closed his hand firmly around hers and assisted in lifting her with a gentle pull upwards. Once she was standing before him, he felt her gaze, and allowed his eyes to find her red ones again. She's got some spirit. Trailing over her face for a moment, his eyes lingered for but a moment on the green color of her hair and lips. It was painfully apparent that she wasn't from around here, or at least this region, yet at the same time... There was something appealing to him there. As she released his arm, he let it drop casually to his side.

A small grin curled his lips as she finally spoke up, but his eyes remained steady on her, as if ensuring that she really was alright. Then, after a few moments of his eyes' searching, he nodded and looked around the clearing carefully. "Good." He replied simply, his words with a little emphasis as he decided they were indeed alone, and safe for the moment. He heard her speak clearly, but otherwise occupied himself. Turning his back to her as she spoke, he knelt over one of the bodies, searching it briefly to remove a small coin pouch and a concealed blade. Looking it over for a moment, he tucked it away on his person before moving to inspect the one to his side, scavenging for supplies while they at least had a few minutes.

"Yes. We should both move on inside for the night... Bandit activity gets far worse at night." He spoke in agreement, picking another blade off of this second man as well as their coin purse. Then standing and sighing, he turned to face her again, offering her the second blade he picked up by the handle. "Take this. I'll get you out of harm's way for the night. There's a tavern back along the river." He spoke thoughtfully, then cast another glance at her hooded face, unsure of what he further he could do for her after the inn stay. He had his own rhythm here, his own quiet way of life now. This may just be risking that lifestyle. Still... I can't leave a pretty girl out for the bandits. Sighing, he scratched the back of his head lightly with a gloved hand, black leather up to his elbow. His other hand, the one he helped her up with, was kept bare.

"Let's go before more come, huh?" He decided, stepping past some brush and waiting for her to decide on whether she'd follow him.

The woman watched him loot some of the bodies, keeping her disdain to herself, he was robbing them of their possessions? But then worlds like this, at these era of civilization, were often like that, she supposed, conflict seemed to be a natural way for many sentient species, even these ones it seemed, even with such interesting abilities. Where she was from, she knew it as magic, but did they consider it the same? The woman needed to partly feign ignorance, knowing it as one thing, a fairytale but now seeing it as a real thing, it was difficult to believe.

"These men. Fire from their hands." The cloaked figure glanced over a few of the fallen, stopping only briefly as he gave her the blade, she weighed it in her hands but then tucked it into her dress, behind her cloak in a belt, "It is not something I have ever seen. How do they command fire?" The question was presented curiously. If an everyday bandit could do it; she doubted it was a worldly secret that people were forbidden to speak of. At least that was how she figured it.

The young woman nodded when he told her that it was best to go,
"I am in agreement. I would like no more arms around my neck that I do not want." The woman stated, reaching up to rub at the neck area, it had gone slightly red, she could feel blood rushing though the area, it was really warm. She stuck close to the man, glancing at him quietly as she followed, though she watched her feet too. She had a feeling he could be trusted, but then there was also the nagging doubt in the back of her mind, not easily forgotten after that little ordeal.

Of course the red-eyed woman still had a trick up her sleeve now, thanks to him, but it wasn't something she wanted to use if she didn't have to, though on a world like this, one day it might be necessary.. She wished she hadn't come to this world, but nowhere else let her be as free as this. Even if there was a little danger..

Stepping out of the clearing carefully, he took a moment to look at their surroundings before beginning to lead them towards their destination. A small creek trickled alongside the path he made for them, and it would slowly grow as they continued on walking. As she questioned about the magic she'd seen from the bandits, he chuckled and sent a small smile in her direction. "I had a feeling you weren't from around here," he began, a little amusement touching his features, as it had really been more than a feeling, "Anyone can become a Mage, in the right circumstances. It takes some training to hone those skills, but to many it becomes second nature to using your own fists. Of course, not all magic is used in fighting, but around here..." He explained, pausing to scratch the back of his head, "Well, around here that's about all it's used for."

After that explanation, his smile faded slowly, darker thoughts clouding his mind. Lips pressing into a firm line, he remained quiet for a while to allow himself to simmer down. As they moved, he adjusted the leather of his shirt, which cut off just above his shoulders. It was his means of armor, which was good enough for his use but was by no means of fantastic quality, even for this planet. Underneath, he wore a cloth shirt that hardly showed from under the leather, except to cover the mid section of his arm above his gloved hand. Against that glove he fiddled with a strap so that it may hold a small blade there, thinking over his next words carefully.

"Fire is one of the most damaging forces in our world, in the wrong, skilled hands." He commented, voice grave and eyes avoiding her form. If she were from this region, she'd know that for sure. If she were from anywhere else, she'd surely know of magic... Finally casting a curious glance in her direction, he cleared his throat a little. "How'd you end up running into that ruckus? Get lost in the woods?" Again he let a little playful note slip into his tone, "You that far from home?" A little warmth seeped into his expression, a boyish gleam catching his golden eyes as he made his attempt at understanding where she was coming from. It wasn't often he met anyone that didn't know how to work with simple magic, much the less someone who didn't know how to work with it.

A mile or so yet through the woods, the creek began to widen into a full-blown river, water rambling gently over rocks and a soft trickling sounding. Across a small wooden bridge running over the river would the small tavern he had directed them to, built of earthy stones and wood. There were a few horses tied beside it, but it otherwise didn't appear very busy, and he found it rather quaint.

The woman hopped between rocks and roots with gentle, silent steps, careful not to make noise, as few sounds as possible, though her thoughts were consumed with the man admitting that magic had been used. She stumbled over a root at this but managed to keep her feet under her as she stared at him with a strange sense of wonder. The child in her heart leaped with joy at the very thought, the idea of magic being real. The adult in her, perhaps a little scientist, wanted to to disprove the idea of magic, to call it another force, new laws of physics.

"Magic is a tale.." She replied to begin with, keeping her feet and walking carefully once more, "Where I am from, that is.. It is a story, to fascinate youngling minds, to give belief to something more to life than what we have." The woman explained a little further, "You tell me magic is real.. It is a strange concept to.. Accept." She finished, though, then paused a moment when he joked about her being far from home. The green-haired girl smiled, albeit a little nervously,
"The distance to my home is.. Farther than you might understand.." She replied, though she wasn't sure how to explain how she'd gotten into that situation. The attack was rather sudden. She had been wandering the woods alone, looking for safe places to rest

She stopped briefly whens he saw the tavern. She got closer to him and leaned forward slightly, a look of wonder on her face again,
"Such a place, like tales to me.. Built in ways we do not, a nearby river where water flows, large animals.." She paused briefly, staring at them a moment, the horses. The woman seemed a little confused before standing up straight and looking up at her savior,
"They are livestock? Are they kept close for the eating?" He words were still a little disjointed, her phrases out of place, it was taking a little time to get used to this language, but the translator was getting better, piece by piece as the man talked to her.

Stretching his arms ahead of him, then to his sides, he suddenly felt the weight of the day on his shoulders. He was growing tired, and was now looking forward to the idea of a hearty meal and some time to relax. Whatever relaxing he could afford, in any case. I do still need to keep an eye out for her here. Ruffling his hair troubledly, he let out a soft sigh.

"A tale?" He questioned, narrowing his eyes a little in confusion. How far from magic was this one kept? It seemed nearly impossible to him that someone had been so underexposed. At her next words about her home, his gaze drew to her again, a certain intensity gleaming in his eyes. Further than I understand? Instead of replying verbally at first, he shook his head a little and allowed his eyes to rest on the bridge they were now nearing. "Magic is a fact of life here. I can't imagine it any other way." He spoke firmly, but curiosity lingered about what she had meant. Something about her explanation gave him chills, to think of places and ideas beyond what he knew. The other part of her words stirred his wanderlust. Though... One thing I do have here is freedom.

As she spoke up about the tavern, he raised an eyebrow at her, mild amusement returning. Glancing back at it himself before turning to look at her, he sent her a small grin. He saw a familiar cottage-styled tavern with a couple of loyal horses; apparently, she saw some strange building and three muscular beasts. "It's hard to imagine what you see, if you're as clueless as you appear..." He spoke quietly, notes of curiosity striking his tone, though disbelief clouded it for the most part. Sighing then, he began across the small bridge, just a brush of most from the river rising below him to meet his booted ankles.

"This is a tavern, a small one, but cozy and relatively safe. We can get some food and needed shut-eye here." He explained, unsure of how to react to her seeming awe in the place. These things were commonplace to him, but he could only assume that the wonder in her features was genuine. He saw no indication of otherwise, in the least.

"These are horses," he spoke only after crossing the bridge, once near enough to one of the tied steeds. Reaching his bare hand out, he gentled the nearest one's mane and smiled as it turned its head to look at the two of them in return. "They're loyal companions, and a great method of transport. Not for eating." He felt silly explaining this to her, as if he were with a child, but the wonder she'd had in her gaze was all too alluring for him not to try believing her.

Magic being a fact of life was definitely difficult to grasp in a way, however at the same time, this man was rather convinced of what he was saying, she couldn't call him a liar. She turned towards him and planted her hand son her hips when he called her clueless, a huff escaping her,
"Hey!" She responded a moment before pointing her finger at him and waving it a little, "This may all confuse me but I am not without the ability to think," She replied, only a little haughtily, though she didn't look as offended as she acted, grinning widely soon after, "It is fun, the world I see, when what I know is so different,"

She stared over at the Tavern as he explained about it and the horses outside, thought he thought of using them for transport seemed odd to her as well, the world she was from had no such thing as ridable creatures, even in its history,
"You ride living creatures to move faster..? That sounds odd, I do not think I would like a large beast between my legs." She didn't realize how badly her words could be taken as she contemplated what it was like to ride one of these horses,"And they are not edible?" She added, the horse that looked at them snorted in her direction and she jumped slightly, hiding behind the man, eyes wide, "I do not think it would like that..!"

The woman then looked up at him again, seeming to freeze in place for a moment as a thought clicked in her mind and she smiled awkwardly,
"Oh my.. I forget, we must yet exchange our names, my chosen name is Numira. It is tradition to have chosen name and heart name, the heart name is for family and loved ones. Some call me Numi." She smiled, placing her hands behind her back and stepping away a couple of feet so she could bow in his direction.

At her reaction to his comment, a small smile took over his face, seemingly happy to have finally riled her up a little. He had been right about at least one thing-- she certainly had some spirit. His smile grew to take on a boyish feel, proud of the fact that he hadn't actually upset her. Instead, as he found her smiling, he was a little taken back. She was a pretty woman, surely, but seeing her smile lit his cheeks with a slight flush. He wasn't used to the female company. Scratching his neck idly, he cleared his throat a little and threw out those thoughts. "I'm glad this entertains you," he managed to reply with a teasing hint to his tone, before averting his gaze from her altogether.

After explaining what he thought necessary, he was surprised with her response. This adventurous girl... Not into the idea of riding horses? It all seemed rather silly to him, her lack of knowledge that was so plain to him, but her genuine curiosity was too hard to dismiss. It kept him at bay from disbelief, when he normally wouldn't trust in a word from another's mouth to begin with. Chuckling light-heartedly as she hid behind him, he turned to look at her with a broad smile, "I'll protect you from the beast, no worries." His voice carried his sarcasm smoothly, the hand he had gentled the horse's mane with then moving to gently caress the horse's cheek before dropping to his side. "They honestly won't hurt you. If you'd like to find shelter outside of the rogue territory here, you may very well need to learn to ride one." He added, a more serious and thoughtful side to his speech.

As he was given her name, and her heart name explained, he rose a curious eyebrow towards her. With a bow to top it all off, hm? Hiding his amusement in recognition that she thought this customary, he instead nodded and grinned in her direction, also noting with some embarrassment that they hadn't exchanged names prior to her saying that. "Pleasure to meet you," he spoke warmly, using perhaps the friendliest side of him yet, "My name is Kiernan." Here he paused, as if about to say more, then allowed his friendly smile to dissipate. While he had let himself into a generally good mood around her - an oddity - he remembered himself now and lost that cheerful, boyish quality. Eyes sobering as if with added age, he let his eyes skim her face for a moment before adding, "Those without a class do not carry more than one name, nor are we allowed family names."

At that, he sighed softly and stepped inside, as if wishing to close the door on the conversation, while he held the door open for her. Inside, the large room was wooden with stone accenting throughout, as the outside was styled. At a small bar along the middle was a barmaid working, scrubbing the counter before her before looking up to see their entrance.

"Two for the night." He spoke simply, walking straight to her expectantly.

"Right! Welcome, dears. Can I get you two some dinner while I set things up?" She questioned, smiling warmly at the both of them.

Without a smile to return, Kiernan merely nodded, and seated himself casually on the nearest bar stool while the woman scurried off.

Numi smiled at his name, though when a visible change came over him, a sad appearance, her own smile vanished as she stared at him with some consideration. He had no family name? It wasn't quite the same thing but the thought of only having one name was actually a little upsetting, though she remained calm-faced as she followed him into the building. Knowing that they would meet other people, she reached up to her hood and pulled it further forward and down so that her face was more shaded, though her lips were exposed, her eyes at least looked darker and her hair was hidden within the folds of the hood itself.

She listened to their phrasing and words, her translator still trying to sort out normal inflections and phrasing, it would eventually get it perfect and allow her to speak a little more normal, so that she didn't sound so strange, even she could tell it wasn't perfect yet. She followed after Kiernan, keeping her face hidden from the room until she was sitting beside Kiernan and more or less using him as cover from the rest of the room,
"So you say magic is a way of life, can you tell me more?" She asked, still curious, magic did have many applications, bandits like the ones in the forest had barely scratched the surface, only learned what was useful to them.

Perhaps the most curious thing she wanted to know that eve Kiernan couldn't tell her was if she could also use it or not. No-one would have believed if she simply told the tale of a world with magic, then again, if they did.. The thought crossed her mind briefly and she didn't think of it too directly..
"As you say.. I am not from here, I know nothing of this place and its people.. I apologize if my asking is a trouble.."

Kiernan sat quietly as she approached, eyes focused in on his bare hand in contemplation as his gloved one rested calmly beneath it. His eyes only lifted as she spoke up, almost surprised to hear her voice. I drifted off... Eyes locked on her for a moment, he studied what little he could see of her face under the darkened shade of her hood, picturing what he remembered of her features in place of what couldn't be seen. Then, realizing he hadn't spoken, he lips parted then closed firmly. It was an abstract question that he wasn't sure of how to handle, and one he normally wouldn't have bothered to face. Yet...

As she admitted what he had been piecing together since their first encounter, he allowed a small grin slide back into his lips. It was painstakingly obvious that she wasn't from these parts, if not from her broken speech and appearance, then from her lack of cultural understanding. Not that that is a fall back. Her genuine quality drew some wonder from him as she apologized for her questions, at which his facial expression finally softened once more. Apology in his eyes as they rested on her gently, he shook his head firmly. "Your questions are honestly no trouble to me. They raise my own questions, but I have no problem with answering the questions you have for me." He spoke firmly, sure of himself though he was not sure of whether he could answer all of her questions. "Granted I can," he then added, a boyish playfulness touching his voice once again.

"As for magic..." He sighed softly, then chuckled, hesitance clear, "I'm not sure of where to begin. It's a sort of natural extension of your own senses and abilities. Some hone it with reading, others with spiritual practices, but many by physical training. The most common type, as I mentioned, is used for fighting. It's destructive magic." He tried to speak plainly, in hopes that she could follow and he may clear up some of her confusion. "It can be performed by anyone that is enough at peace with themselves to control it, and is summoned through actions, words, or otherwise. Soldiers are required to use it, but healers and scholars are also skilled with it. The general public may also use it in daily life, though it is not often strong in untrained hands."

He paused there as a young boy brought them each a glass of water. Taking the glass gratefully, Kiernan took a drink and wait for a response or further questions from her.

Numira smiled a little when he told her that she wasn't troubling him, but hid her face a little more when he mentioned that he had his own questions. She was already trying to come up with ways to explain where she was from, but then who would believe that she wasn't even from their world? And then there could even have been some who mistook her explanation as meaning that she was from some other realm, on a lower tech world like this, belief in dark creatures and angelic figures would have been rather rampant. And they had magic to back up the existence of such things, if at all they existed.

The way he explained magic was the way many idealists dreamed it would be, a relatively universal power that bent to particular desires, be it healing or harm, the ways to improve it also appeared to be what people often expected, though some always thought it was a lot more about knowledge than spirituality. Physical training being an aid made sense if it somehow drained the user in some way. She listened to him quietly as she garnered the more general understanding of magic,
"I wonder.. If magic is not beyond me.." She stated aloud, "If I simply told tales of a place where magic is, they would say that I am merely a fool and call it something not to believe. We are many cynical people.." She smiled nervously, looking at the water a moment.

Now another concern came to mind, was the food and water on this world entirely safe to eat and drink? She brought it closer to her, though it may have seemed hesitantly, her left eye glimmered, small pinpricks of light, rings around the iris shifted and focused. What she saw was an interface linked to a bio-scanner, it measured the water, analyzed it for harmful bacteria but eventually concluded that there was nothing present that could harm her, she had immuno-boosters that could reinforce her body if she did get sick on an alien planet. Though she was irresponsible, she was no fool,
"You told me of magic, but what of people? There are those bandits, bad men, but you are a good man, so there must be larger places, enclaves or gatherings of good or bad. Cities?"

While he hadn't been sure of what reaction he expected from her, he was surprised to hear her immediate interest in performing it. In fact, he nearly choked on the water he had sipped. Swallowing hard, Kiernan turned to look at her with a mixture of embarrassment and surprise. She had seemed wary of most other things, so her eagerness now seemed curious to him. He supposed her performing it could convince another who would not believe in magic, but who wouldn't? What society it was that she came from that didn't even know of the existence of magic, he did not know. He could hardly keep his first question from finally bubbling up. Eyebrows knit together, gaze intense, he spoke firmly, "Where is it that you hail from, exactly, Numira?"

Then leaning forward slightly, as if more relaxed after letting his question go, Kiernan's thoughts wondered over her statement itself. It was not often that a person was not capable of magic without a rather obvious hinderance to their personal sense of peace. Otherwise, whomever wished to cast it could, and the stronger their sense of self, the stronger they could grow. Rubbing his cheek thoughtfully, he then quietly decided, "I see no reason you wouldn't be capable of it." His voice lacked excitement, but wasn't altogether dark. Instead, it was stripped of his opinion as his thoughtful gaze came to rest on her, eyes focused as if asking a question he couldn't put words to.

As she touched the glass, lifting it in her delicate hand, he watched quietly as she paused before drinking it. Narrowing his gaze at her as he saw small rays of light from her good, he said nothing, but waited uneasily for it to dissipate. He wasn't sure what to think of it, perhaps he had been imagining things. Then finally lifting his gaze away, they met the young man again as they were each served hearty plates of meat and vegetables. Grinning, he thanked him briefly before taking his knife to cut his meat right away. It had been a while since he last ate a meal not prepared by himself.

Her question over the people of the region was also a sort of surprise for him, but it was one he knew how to answer. "Kingdoms, and scattered towns located centrally to them. Among the outermost parts and foresty regions lay most of the bandits and poorer districts, but further into the kingdoms the people thrive and royalty lives." He explained plainly, pausing after for a few moments to take his first bite and savor it. Oh, it was good, too. After he swallowed, he smiled, rather pleased with the meal. "Good and bad have some blurred lines, really. It's hard to say whether a person is more one or the other." He then added, smile dulling just a tad, to high he didn't seem altogether upset to admit that. He had never seen anyone as being purely good, nor bad. Some people just made poor decisions, himself included. That being said, considering her words, he felt a bit touched at her assumption of his being 'good'. Grinning at her as if grateful, he added, "I still do appreciate that assumption."

"The place I come from is called.. Uhmm.. Well.." She hesitated briefly at the question he presented, now she thought about it, he hadn't exactly asked exactly where it was, he was likely looking for a name, something that he may have heard of, it was a little difficult to lie when he stared at her but she knew he wouldn't understand the where, "It is called Kiranes," She finally admitted. There was no harm in letting him know the name of her home-world, so long as he believed it was some unheard of place on his own world, that would be fine.

She lifted the glass to her lips and drank a little. Fresh water was oddly different to the synthetics she remembered, it just seemed different, the slightest taste perhaps, her focus was drawn by the food and she sniffed at it softly. She found herself smiling widely, it had been a long time since she'd smelled anything that resembled good cooking, but she was once again momentarily cautious, scanning the food to make sure there were no properties harmful to her own biology.

Once she was certain it was safe, she watched Kiernan briefly, listening to him as he spoke, but she was also interested in what his hands were doing, so she understood the use of their utensils. There were similar ones back home, but she wanted to be certain of their use, so she didn't look like a fool. though when he spoke of the kingdoms, the poor and the royalty she could see the gradual, if slight, change on his face again, though in return she threw her face into a pout, turning it away from him a little as though acting like a child,
"A Kiranessan can stand by what they say. Were you bad; you would not help. Were you evil; you would have been among those men, or you could have tried to do worse. Why let some flee? You could have killed each one, more a monster than a person. Who or what you may have been before, I have no care," She turned her head to him and grinned broadly, "You are the good man, Kiernan, right now." She stated firmly, cutting into her food finally and taking a few bites, a softened sound of delight came from her throat along with a sight of contentment and she put a hand to her cheek, her fork balanced finely between her fingers,
"So long since I have eaten a good meal, warm and good flavor..!"

He awaited his answer with curiosity, finding it strange that she seemed to find it a difficult one to answer. Surely, she knows where she lives? Kiernan's eyes scanned her form with just a tad of suspicion, finding it strange that she hesitated. Was there something bad about where she was from? Once she answered, however, he nodded slowly. "Kiranes... I've never heard of it," he spoke thoughtfully, suspicion gone as he wondered about her. What a mysterious woman...

While he did make sure to say he appreciated her words, he was almost certain he'd offended her as she pouted and turned away from him. Damn... This lead a bit of a frown to his own lips, afraid of upsetting her. Though, he had to admit, there was something distinctly appealing in her childish actions. As she turned to grin at him, claiming that he was indeed a good man, he felt his cheeks flare with a small rush of heat. Swallowing a new lump in his throat, he chuckled hesitantly in response, eyes locked on her in wonder. She's... Rather cute like this. Rubbing his cheek, he found his words again slowly. "I see your point." He spoke simply, thoughtful. He couldn't possibly argue with that logic. What he didn't say was how he still found some room to disagree with her; people weren't always so straightforward, even if he didn't harbor bad intentions with her. A slow smile took his face, genuine and working wonders to light up the traces of his grim earlier self.

Her reaction to the food lead him to laugh a little, then nod in agreement. "It's hard to find little places like this on the road, quiet and cozy, good food and company..." He spoke fondly of it, looking around the familiar room with a sort of admiration. "No brawls here, not even any soldiers out in these parts." Thinking of being on the road brought him back to thinking about where she was from again, and just how far away that may be. Then, where she would try to head. "Where is it that you're planning on going? What've you come this far for?" He questioned curiously, a thought touching his mind. I'd hate myself if she were caught by bandits again. What they would do to a girl like her... Kiernan shivered and shook his head, quick to try brushing away those thoughts.

Numi stopped briefly as she put another piece of meat in her mouth, holding the fork in place as she listened to Kiernan speak of places like the tavern. Sure this particular place was nice but not moments ago she'd been attacked by bandits, not to mentions he was almost forced to fight back, even kill them. The lack of soldiers meant that bandits like those men back there could run rampant though, she wasn't so sure it was a good thing.. But then maybe soldiers could be worse.. She knew some examples of military history like that.

His first question made her swallow the piece of meat and she swung her fork softly, almost rhythmically, on the second she pointed it up and shrugged a little with a smile,
"I have not planned so far," She replied, gently tapping her chin with her thumb as she thought about it a moment, "I wanted to be away.. At home it was duty, duty, duty, do things like so, say things like so, stand like so, dress like so, fight like so." She punctuated every like so by twirling the fork gently between her fingers each time, not even noticing how nimbly she was moving her fingers, "Family always busy, duty, duty, no-one to talk to, no-one to listen," Her face dropped the more she spoke until she was leaning on her hand, a depressed expression threatening to fix itself upon her face, "No one who hears what I say.. Not even a single one called my heart name."

She drew in a breath and sighed softly, though the depressed expression took a moment to go away before her face return to a more neutral state,
"Maybe one day go back, but for now; I would like to be here." She stated, glancing over at Kiernan with a smile again, "Maybe make trouble of myself, follow you, find out more about this place." Numi was actually rather hopeful that he wouldn't reject the idea, if she stuck around him, at least she could learn more and have a protector who could fight on the terms of this world, perhaps she would even pick up a few combat tricks.

Kiernan's eyebrows both raised in surprise, his food-filled fork pausing in the air before his mouth. Lowering it, he let his attention instead drift to her. She has... no plans? Confusion clear, he quietly listened to her reasoning, trying to understand. Then, after she spoke, he took even a few moments longer to mull things over. Only after she'd finished explaining this surprising bit of information did he finally take the bite of food he'd had waiting for him. It was a bit of a shock for him to hear that her reason for coming here was freedom-- that she was running away. In his own way, he could understand the need for it. She is still putting herself in danger for it, though. Unsure of what to say in response during the pause, he instead noticed the sudden sense of depression from her, and allowed his own features to somber.

He quickly decided he didn't like the look of her sad; as such, he wouldn't prod the subject any further. Relief found him as she seemed to fall back to normal, and he felt muscles relaxing that he hadn't known he'd tensed. When had he tensed up? Rubbing the back of his neck thoughtfully, he let his thought wonder just enough so that he'd barely heard her request of sorts, if it had truly been a request at all. Taking a moment to stir in his mind, the idea of her following him finally pricked it and his lips parted slightly with the realization. She wants me to help her explore... to keep her safe. Forcing himself not to overthink that, he cleared his throat a little. He didn't want to be getting flustered again, not when it was such a straightforward proposition. Kiernan couldn't assume anything.

"Follow me, eh?" He eventually chuckled, shaking his head a little and letting his gaze dip as he thought over what to say. He'd already made his decision, it hadn't even been a conscious choice. He knew he couldn't let her rough it alone. "Well, whatever works best." Kiernan said with a smile, his most charming by far, features finally softening to show the boyishly genuine man that sat there. He would've perhaps said more if not for the reappearance of the barmaid, sliding him key across the counter quietly before returning to work. Then sighing and looking at his empty plate, he took up his glass of water and downed the last few gulps before picking up the key to show her.

"I'll head up for the night, check the room out. We can talk about where to go next when you're ready," he spoke with a small smile, then casually standing and walking up the stairs as he'd said. He wanted to check the room, make sure locks worked, seal any windows. This was a nice little place, but it wasn't without its risks, and now he had a traveling companion to help look out for. Wouldn't hurt to clean up a bit, either. Mentally noting some rougher spots on his clothing, he decided to also let himself wash up quickly before she finished her own dinner.

Numi remained smiling when Kiernan responded, her smile widening when he agreed to it, although with a peculiar phrase, she stared at him as the translator worked it into her head. Whatever works best. In some way, that had exactly been how she even got this far, doing whatever she felt worked at the time, pure spontaneous thought with little afterthought, so long as it got her where she wanted to go. Still, the positive answer kept her smiling, even as she ate, few people could show such contentment for such a simple thing as a meal and good company.

When the barmaid gave Kiernan a key, Numi was reasonably curious, staring at the object for a moment, where she was from; keys were a thing of the past, at least ones like that. Seeing a real fashioned metal key in person was like witnessing history right in front of her, so naturally; she was in awe of the little thing. She kept to herself a little about it though, smiling at Kiernan again,
"Okay," She replied briefly. watching him as he got up and left, once he was out of sight she worked her way through the last of her meal too and her water. Satisfied with the meal, and not wanting to push her luck by asking for more, she bowed politely to the barmaid and thanked her for the meal before asking which room she needed to go to.

Naturally the barmaid was a little apprehensive about talking to a hooded figure that wasn't speaking her sentences properly but she made sense of the words Numi used and explained where to find the room Kiernan was in. Numira was hesitant at first about entering so she knocked on the door in the way she had seen in some vids about ancient fantasy tales. There were no chimes or bells so a knock on the door had to suffice, she rapped her knuckles gently on the wooden surface, but then remembered if this was a shared room with some-one she knew, she could enter, and so she turned the handle, opening it up.

The young woman turned, closing the door then again turned on her heel, staring about for Kiernan until she spotted him, smiling brightly again,
"I could eat such meals for a great long time.." She stated in a satisfied manner, she reached up with her hands pulling her hood away again, however then pulled away the entire cloak, so that only her white dress beneath remained. it covered her well enough, though there were faint shapes on her skin, in small patches on either side o her neck and further down on her now-exposed shoulders, the thinnest of lines could be seen, shaped in hexagonal patterns and occasionally ending in slightly bigger circular formations, little more than pinpricks, but with her smooth skin these patterns could still be seen by a discerning eye.
In her society these were augmentations, immunity boosters, physical enhancers, survival adjustments of various kinds, storage devices for emergency survival suits or combat gear in harsh environments, the advanced technology behind them, to a backwater world, could only have been described in terms of magic, an odd matter indeed.

She reached around her neck, pulling away the hair that sat around her shoulders slightly and pulled the metal clasp holding it together out so that it fell loose, spreading out behind her like a verdant green veil, the clean fibers shone gently. Clasp and cloak in hand and arm respectively she stared at Kiernan, still smiling, though she was unsure what to say.

Kiernan climbed the wooden stairs with ease, mindlessly twirling the small key within his hand as he walked down the short hallway of the second level to find their room. His mind was buzzing with thoughts, all circulating the bold decision he'd just made. Had that been wise? Shaking his head at himself, he let a small grin play out along his lips. Kiernan didn't really care whether it not if had been; he had been set on it before she'd even begged the question. It was just a matter of him saying so up until that point. When he reached their room, he slipped the key into the door effortlessly and began to check it quickly.

First he ensured that the door locks worked, then the small window by the second bed, then contented he sat on the bed nearest the door. It was a small, simple room with two average-sized beds and a small, folding divider between them. It wasn't much in the means of privacy, but that hadn't even touched his mind as he relaxed there. Seated at the edge of a bed, he took his time in removing his dirt-encrusted boots one at a time, followed by his weapons, several blades of which were slung over to lay on the bedside table. He then removed the leather padding he wore for armor, unstrapping the pad wrapping his right arm, shins, and finally his chest. Once that was off, he already relished the last of pressure on his sore muscles, but did not stop there. The last to come off was his light cloth shirt, exposing the raised muscles of his torso and shoulders, though he kept the leather padding covering his left arm on. Without the cover of his shirt, there were small gaps in the joints in its padding, now revealing areas of metal he kept otherwise well-covered. As his eyes grazed it, his gaze hardened and he let out a sigh, though he forgot this and himself when he heard the knock at the door.

Smiling nearly immediately, he stood to answer it, but was instead surprised to find her opening the door herself. So instead, he stood at the foot of his bed, nodding at her in welcome as she walked on in. Chuckling at her only words, he nodded in agreement, "It was delicious, always is here." He wasn't sure of what to say beyond that as she removed her cloak, drawing his gaze to the white dress she wore beneath it, and the light patterns that appeared etched into her skin. In awe with the gentle coloring there, his eyes trailed her skin, then found her hair as it was released from its clasp. There was nothing to say-- he simply stared, smiling.

At least, he did, up until the point where he noticed their eyes lock. Noticing he'd been staring her down and hoping he hadn't seemed ravenous, he quickly averted his gaze. Clearing his throat a little, he spoke up slowly as if to explain himself, "The dress suits you more so than the cloak." After the words left his mouth, he mentally cringed at them; it was obvious that it did better to suit her form, so it was a weaker compliment than he had intended. Then unable to help himself, he cautiously allows his gaze to find her once again. "Tattoos?" He questioned casually, eyeing the light markings on her skin.

Numi took a moment to look down at the dress as he complimented it, though she then raised her head with that same smile, her face turning a little red. She was partly embarrassed because it didn't even belong to her, it was actually a little too small, only a little, so it hugged her figure more than she had hoped. His compliment though meant that he liked what he saw, which in itself embarrassed her only slightly, as much as it made her feel good to hear those words. When he changed the subject to her tattoos she checked her right shoulder a moment, reaching up her hand as if to touch them. But she stopped, then shook her head a little. Still she smiled as she stared at him, taking in his figure as well.

He had a body most young Kiranessan males would have wanted to show off to the girls, it was a guilty pleasure for Numi to rather like such a physique. Though she caught a glimpse of his arm, spying the exposed bits of metal. Strange.. Given the proportion of his arm and how deep that metal was, it couldn't be.. A curious look came across her as she stepped quickly towards him for a moment. She paused, setting down her cloak and clasp on the bed before she reached out with her hands, gently wrapping them around his left forearm, one at the wrist and one closer to the elbow,
"May I..?" She asked gently, pulling it up so that she could inspect it more closely, it didn't take much to discern that his arm wasn't real, it was solid, harder than flesh, but she could barely hear even the most audible of machine-like whirrs or clicks, "Movements are natural, suggesting link.. Not part of you.. No attachment to nerve, no direct connection, limited construction, but still fine work.. Augment chip? No no no, no receiving signal, technology not advanced enough.." She mumbled to herself as she looked it over softly, before looking into his eyes again, "Perhaps then.. May I ask.. Is this magic..?"

Kiernan's smile only brightened as he saw the blush run across her face, glad his compliment actually proved its worth. He had been wary of his words as soon as they'd left his mouth, but apparently she understood that he had indeed meant to say that she looked stunning. As she reacted to his question of her tattoos, he quirked an eyebrow up at her as she looked about to touch one of them, then changed her mind. Are they not tattoos? Eyebrows drawing together in confusion at that concept, he instead shook his head a little to dismiss the thought. It wasn't worth dwelling on at the moment, especially with her drawing near. He wasn't sure what to make of her gaze remaining on his form, whether it was a good or bad thing, but at least took comfort in the fact that he knew he was well in shape. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but fancy the idea that she may even like what she saw.

As she drew close to him, he felt his pulse pick up, unsure of her plans as she set her cloak and clasp on the bed beside him. She surprised him by taking his arm, his eyes widening and lips parting, but no words of protest coming to him. Instead, he allowed her to grasp it like so, his gaze training itself on her face to read her take on it. It wasn't something he was familiar with, having another inspect his false arm so closely-- in fact, it wasn't something he typically showed others at all. It was gruesome and unnatural; to him it was a painful reminder of failure and disgust. People had judged him harshly based upon it, when he had at some times shown it publicly. However, here he was, surprising even himself by allowing her to touch and inspect it as she pleased. "You may," he spoke quietly, just a bit tense as he prepared for what could be a bad reaction from her. Still, he had some hope as he allowed his head to tilt up to look at her. She was different, and she even dared to touch it after seeing it.

As she spoke to herself, he began to feel himself calm, as if this were some sort of typical check up on the parts involved. Her technical speech drew his eyes to widen a tad, unsure of how she picked up on how it all worked so quickly. It rather amazed him, truly. As her gaze met his again, he felt his heart skip in his chest. She's curious, not disgusted int he least. A slow smile slid up along his lips. "Yes, it's magic. The construction itself is not, but the attachment and its motions are." He admitted with surprising ease, unsure of how she enabled him to calm himself, "It's not perfect, but... it's working. I'm still getting acquired to the focus it takes some times."

As if shy, he lowered his gaze to his hand in hers, thoughtful in the few moments of silence. "I'm unable to focus on any other abilities with it in use. It's a stubborn aesthetic, really." He explained with a small chuckle, which trailed off as he let his gaze move back to her. "Most don't take interest in it. It's abnormal here," he added, curiously, to say that he was surprised in her actions. However, it was also something of another question in itself. Is she really unphased by this?

Numira continued to gaze over the false arm and hand calmly before she closed both her hands around the false one and lowered it between them with a smile to Kiernan again, her face was still slightly red, she was thinking of something, what to say about it, the tattoos. She'd left a question in his mind she was sure, but it was difficult to explain them, her hands released his false one,
"Most people are silly and they cannot see beyond their own two eyes. Most people are not me." She replied calmly at first but then she took his other hand, this time placing her thumbs in his palm, her fingers wrapping around the back and she lifted the hand up, pulling it up to her shoulder, letting it over near the tattoos, she shifted her grip on the hand so that she had two of his fingers wrapped together and pressed them down softly on the tattoo she could see on her shoulder.

The moment his skin made contact, the tattoo light up, the parts of it closest to his fingers turned red, glowing that one color gently, but the rest of the tattoo light up in a rainbow of soft colors that flowed and shifted outward and away from his touch, being replaced by new colors as they moved. Once she had demonstrated this to him she slowly released his hand and smiled at him again,
"Not tattoos. There is more about them than I can explain. Not magic, but close to.." She gave what detail she could, but she knew speaking of advanced technology was forbidden, so it was best not to say more than that. She looked up at Kiernan again, her face still red, perhaps a little more, given that she'd invited him to touch her. She wanted to say it was just a silly girl's crush on a cute guy, perhaps it was, but she didn't want to ay that out loud,
"Thank you, Kiernan.." She added, "You are the most kind person I have met for some time. I will like traveling with you."

Kiernan's doubts about how she may react to his hand were soon alleviated as she set it down only to smile at him, catching him off guard. Lips parting briefly, he then allowed an easy smile to come to his face as well. Relief washed over him as he relaxed where he sat, surprised and refreshed by her actions. She wasn't treating him any differently now that she knew. That restored a faith in him he hadn't realized he'd lost. Accompanied by her words, he felt his heart leap in his chest. "Thank you... I... I appreciate that." He managed slowly, unsure of how to respond to her being that understanding, that open-minded to something he thought of as foul.

As she grabbed his hand, pink tint lit his cheeks, not quite understanding her intents. Once it was clear that she was just showing him her tattoos, he mentally scolded himself a little, but only until he became distracted by the touch of her skin under his fingers. What happened next inspired a boyish sense of wonder in his features, eyes wide and curious as he watched the colors spread over the area. "Ohh," he began softly in response to her explanation, fingers still pressed gently to her soft skin where she'd lead them. He was a bit entranced, quite frankly, both with the markings and with the girl sitting beside him. "Whatever they are, they're rather pretty." He then added a few moments later, sending a smile in her direction. He felt quite a bit at ease with her after this exchange, much more relaxed than his typical self. She was a breath of fresh air.

While she had let go of his hand, his fingers hesitated where they were as Kiernan was tempted by his instincts. Biting his bottom lip for a brief moment, he then decided to just relax and allow himself to try it. Instead of removing his hand from her, he slowly flattened it against her shoulder, just resting there as he heard her speak up again. Eyes softening as he looked at her, he chuckled a little, embarrassed. "There's no need to thank me, I'm more than happy to help you out. Numira, spending time with you has been rather... refreshing." He admitted, smiling, looking over her with a certain fondness. She was a beauty for sure, but he tried forcing himself to remember that it was his job to show her around, not court her.

Numira smiled as he was impressed by the reaction of her tattoos, what she wouldn't say was that the red glow around his fingers was essentially a warning that said tot hose who understood that he wasn't allowed to activate the augments, if she were to touch them and send the mental link to the augment in particular it would have activated and likely scared the life out of Kiernan. But there was a sentiment she shared with Kiernan, they looked pretty, no-one on Kiranes could appreciate that simple truth, since it was so commonplace to have augments, especially for space travel and survival.

She felt the warmth of his hand over her shoulder as he placed it down more firmly, it prompted a strange feeling in her, a quiver. Being kept cooped up and away from the contact of others left her quietly anxious, but there were so many factors that had to be taken into account, that he had saved her, that she believed him to be good, that he would protect her, keep her safe, and from the touch of his hand he would keep her warm. He was handsome by Kiranessan standards. The only disadvantage for him was living in a world that probably wouldn't understand hers.
This last thought twisted her gut, but she reached for his hand, placing hers over it and smiling at him still.

There were things she wanted to say, but she kept that quiet, instead she only blushed at what he said, at least she had also done some good for him, he certainly seemed happy. She shifted a little then turned her head away, reaching her other hand up to cover her mouth as she yawned. As she did so, all her visible augments glowed gently, turning a soft yellow in color before the light dissipated again, it was a biological marker that she was tired, the augments were self-sufficient for the most part but they were still dependent on the host getting rest and good meals. The time the body spent sleeping gave the small nanites within them time to generate power and fresh nanites to replace any lost over time. That in itself would have been difficult to explain to Kiernan, but perhaps she would never need to.

Regardless, it certainly would have been seen that she was tired, her eyes growing slightly dull in appearance, the bright red color sinking to a deeper crimson. Part of her just wanted to lean up against Kiernan and sleep, but she knew not to fall to that instinct. Instead she shifted slightly, looking over her shoulder to the bed. But then she turned around and looked towards the bed. She grabbed her cloak and clasp, wandering over to the bed. She climbed onto it, pulling her cloak over her rather than the available blanket but turned in place so that she was looking over at Kiernan with a small smile, though after a moment her eyes began to droop closed. It didn't take her long to finally fall asleep.
