Ok, the rules are set.
We have family here so you have to keep the thread up on your own for a day.

I am well. Is everyone thinking of entering? Trouble with writing contests during an event is obviously the limited time to write entries!

Short story, I'm no good at reviews.

Fair 'nuff. I thought reviews would be interesting because they're less common in these contests.

That they are. I'd almost be tempted to do a movie review and then submit it for my English class, but maybe not.

I didn't include a poetry segment because I'm not the best judge. xD
I'm not a poetry person.

But as far as people care, the only thing that qualifies me to judge their writing is the fact that I'm giving away stuffsies. 8D
(And writers crave feedback =3)

I'm just happy at the moment - I've found the correct bill to resolve a previous letting/get deposits back.
Rented at university for the first time last year, lots of new discoveries about life and its difficulties!

Yikes, I'm off to uni next year. It's a little daunting actually.

And yeah, writers crave feedback like pregnant people crave pickles in ice-cream. (I don't know why you'd crave that, but it was on an episode of the nanny, so it must be true :P)

I peeked at your profile. I don't know much about the NZ system o3o
The US one is cozy because lots of people live on campus the whole time, and don't have to sort bills or contracts or deposits or anything. And they have meal plans so they don't even have to heat pot noodles! xD

I hope I don't crave anything too mad - but I guess if I crave it, it doesn't matter what it is!
My older sister already eats strange combinations, she'll probably crave dry ice and plutonium if she's pregnant.

Well it depends on the hall you go to. It's weird. the uni I'm applying to has six halls, most of which are fully catered. It's almost impossible to be on campus the whole time though, where would you shop?

And oh gosh, I may just adopt to avoid the whole weird food thing.

My campus is a 10-15 minute bus ride from a good-sized town/small city, where there are all the shops you need.
Last year I lived in-between campus and town, so I could easily walk to the shops. I spent most of my time in the town, or at the house, and mostly just went on campus to go to seminars or the library.

I'd like to enter for the short story, its been some time since I have tested my creative writing skills... I'm sure there is a professor somewhere weeping at this ;)

I haven't written in so long, it's very sad.
At the moment my dissertation is bigger in my mind. >.> My proposal isn't due until Christmas, but when there are infinite possibilities it's kind of daunting. D;

What would you write about if you could do any American or British author ever?

Oh my goodness, I don't even know where I'd begin. >>; Have you any ideas about authors you'd like to write about?

Also, hello everyone!

I haven't really narrowed it down... I just have to be able to write 8000 words on whatever it is. >.>
I had one very vague idea about literature and trauma.

Eep, well I wish you the very very best of luck!
That sounds like a pretty neat topic to tackle. Would it be more along the lines of trauma in literature, or authors who experienced trauma, or something else entirely?

Well it could be written during war, or after war, or set during or after war, and the authors don't necessarily have to have experienced it themselves.

You can see it's very unfocused at the moment. xD
I thought about looking at Roald Dahl's children's literature, but the research for that would be more difficult.

Well at least you sort of have a kind-of direction! So that's a good start. XD

That would be an interesting topic as well, but I can see how research would be really difficult for that. I'm sure there's not a wide pool of academic sources on children's literature. Which is a shame.

Well there's actually a surprising amount of interest. In an initial search, there were like 50 essays/articles on Roald Dahl. (Mostly in a psychoanalytic vein xD)

I browsed your 50 Books Challenge post - I was set The Sound and the Fury and The Turn of the Screw but didn't read them. xD
Of those I have only read Heart of Darkness. I feel ashamed that I haven't yet read Catcher in the Rye.

For the next semester I'm reading The Satanic Verses, I'm only 30 pages in but I am not enjoying it much. >.>
