My Immortal was one the most amazing fanfictions I have ever read in the history of ever.
Anyone who has read it knows what I mean.
I love when crackfics, fanfics that are so stupid (usually on purpose) that they make you laugh. Serious fanfictions though, I tend to avoid.

I love fanfictions, especially the ones that are so good they could be part of the book. But more often then not I find stories that are so poorly written - bad grammer, and lack of punctuation - that I have to stop reading after three setences. So I usually just stick with certain authors and read everything they have ever written. xD

I read fanfiction all the time. But to be logical about it there are some things I don't like about fanfiction.

Like some the pairings and ratings. But I will be honest here if I don't like the pairing or rating I won't read it, or sometimes I will give it the benefit of the doubt and read it anyways, if I don't really like it I won't leave a comment and if I like it I will. I try not to be mean to anyone.

But on the whole I read just about any fanfiction.

Ah, those two definitely had it coming! I mean Lestat just oozes sexual predator. Any way, back to the topic. Fanfics, in my opinion and some other who have posted as well, are just a creative way to express an idea that was created from a show/book. I agree that some get way out of line and I know it was mentioned before, some fanfictions are really good; finding them is like finding a needle in a haystack though.

YEP! Its me again the girl running through threads I love fanfiction and I write my own and get on a site called fanfiction.net because its cool and everything. If fanfiction didn't exist I would probally be so bored I would do dangerous things like jump off random cliffs for the hell of it or scream in a cave. I t would be a bad idea if it was gone, I do love it.

I LIKE FANFICTION!! yeah Lusalma does because all she does is read it, I'm the one who writes it (the red is Lusalma). Anyway I think fanfiction IS best when the characters of the orignial is there or if it is OC that it is belieaveable and not immeadiate change that is impossible, accoriding to common sense. I like the Humor, Fluff, Romance and sometimes Adventure categories of Fanfiction but if it is good i'll read it no matter what genre it is! ^.^

I don't like fanfiction, I have always had a problem with it. I always think that its wrong to meddle with the story and that if the author wanted my input or my thougts then they would have asked me.

I like fanfiction. Well responsible fanfiction. As in well thought out and written fanfiction that is clearly labeled so the reader knows what to expect before reading. I both read and write (though I never do finish them) fanfiction. I've given a lot of thought to fanfiction because I want to one day be a published novelist and for legal purposes I am aware that certain authors request that fanfiction about there works not be supported by fanfiction sites. So I've thought out my opinion on it.

I think fanfiction is a great way people can practice critical writing and reading skills as well as relive and explore thier favorite series. As long as it's done in a respectful manner to the original source then it's fine. Fanfiction crosses the line in my oppinion when fans bring their fanfiction ideals to the author. For example whining to the author about making their favorite fanfiction pairing official, complaining about the direction a character's development was taken, and generally behaving as if they know more than and/or are owed something by the author.

I enjoy fanfiction very much. I read alot of fanfiction from manga and movies because there is so much more detail that can be put into them. I also read for novels as well but not as much as the other two. I also write fanfiction sometimes even though it isn't very good. It does its job and gets my imagination down on paper. I also like reading it because you get to see how other readers viewed the book. That can be very interesting. Also sometimes books don't give you much closure and reading fanfiction can help with giving that.(even though it isn't true.)

i live and breath fanfiction. i am most likely to be found on my computer reading it. and only of the slashy kind. but i'm bi and like to see my charies like that. harry potter fanfiction is my main love with gundam wing coming in a close second. I read one house/wilson one and was scared for life. yes, they would be cute but i just think house and cuddy are hot.

i think fanfiction is just awesome but so respect that an author doesn't like it. i do think that outright banning your fans from writing it though is a little extreme. if I was a writer, i would take it as a complament and would probably read it. it would make a great laugh, even if they got it so horribly wrong that it was bad.

fanfiction makes my world turn and without it, there would be very many dead people in this world.

I read some good ones in my time....I even wrote some. An over abundance of OCs destroys the originality of the fanfiction, in my opinion.

It depends on who is writing it and if the story is left open to continue on, or if they do an alternate ending. Some stories just should never be touched while some are in desperate need of it. I can't think of any examples at the top of my head.

I've been writing for about 6 years, and about 5 of them, including this one, were devoted partly to fan fiction writing and reading.
For the most part, I love fan fiction.
Well, the well written fan fiction, anyway.
Small typos through the story are fine, but generic plot, mary sues, and plot stealing I can't stand.
Original characters are alright, as long as they add to the story and things.
Over all, I support fan fiction.

@Artemis12: that's exactly how I feel! It's the fanfiction that's poorly written and the plot isn't really thought out all that well that I don't like. I understand that not everyone is capable of writing the most amazing piece of writing ever, but a fic that is written at least somewhat decently and the plot is feasible then I have no problem with it. I've read some bad fanfiction before but I've read some pretty well written ones too that I love.

O_o people actually go whine to the author about that stuff? -_- fucking idiots...that just serves to piss the author off.

@InevitableDisater: Yeah. I've seen so many fanfictions that are written so poorly...bad grammar, very poor character development (mainly when dealing with AU fics...because people can take liberties and alter the character), and the plot is just stupid. those kind of fics are painful to read.

I like fanfiction because it gives people and opportunity to practice writing and I believe it helps with their writing skills if they write them enough. I'm a supporter of original fic writing as well (like on fictionpress) because that does the same thing, and it causes the writer to have to be even more creative.

I love reading and writing fanfiction - of course I read many more than I write, but that is probably everyone. I am mostly a Harry Potter and Phantom of the Opera fanfic reader, and even then I don't read too too many because I am picky. I understand that in the world of fanfiction anything can happen, there are some things that are ludicrous! I know that a good writer can really make anything work, but, for example for fanmade pairings, there are only one in millions that could make a really just out of whack pairing work.
Even among the more common pairing you have to search for good fics!

There are things that bug me though, when the characters are taken just TOO out of character...I know it is fanfiction but sometimes...at least for me, it just wont work. I mean, I know that good writers can produce great stuff, but somehow I don' t see how Hermione/Dumbledore would EVER work. Even though in some sites there is enough fanfics with this pairing that it has its own category...which i s scary

The other thing I don't like is PWP (porn without plot). Yes, sex is a part of life and love an a couple's life. I know that they are going to have sex and of course in a more mature fic I expect the scenes here and there. But when every chapter is just one sex scene after another it ceases to become a fic, and simply a PWP.

I mean if it gets to the point where changing the name of the characters to someone from a complete different world and it doesnt change anything...there is something wrong.

Even though I mostly read Hp an PotO I have read a few from other books/movies and really found some good ones!

I dont mind reading the occasional fanfic but when the grammar is bad and spelling is worse I just can't read on. No matter how good the story may have been. I'm kind of a stickler for grammar and spelling mistakes.
Not to say I don't make them. Im not even sure if I'm spelling grammar right. Lol! But if your going to write a story like that and stick it up for people to read, it should be somewhat well written.

The quality of fanfiction has gone down the hill in my opinion. I remember seven or eight years ago, that some of what I was reading was worthy of publishing, but these days finding something doesn't make me grind my teeth is a chore.

At first I thought that maybe the issue was with me. Older and better learned, maybe my standards were just higher then what they'd been back then, but I can't even compare what I used to read with what I see now because a lot of my old favorites are gone now. Deleted by their authors or removed from sites that changed up their rules.

If a story is good, I'll read it. If it has a good plot and is about characters I like, I'll read that too. If it takes characters and makes them out of character with no explaination as to why or make illogical crossovers without a reason or a plot point to justify...not so much.

I do a lot of short fanfictions, as do a bunch of my RP buddies on Gaia. It's really hard to find well written stuff out there for my fandom (Kingdom Hearts), but I'm lucky because my RP pals are amazing. Every 100 pages in our chat thread we all post fanfics we've written, and it's always really pleasing because they're so talented.

I think some of the best fanfictions I've ever read were by maldororGW on Livejournal, she made me a diehard LeeGaara shipper and actually got me to like Gundam Wing pairings with Duo that weren't DuoHeero.

But THE best fanfiction I've EVER read was by SamVimes for the Harry Potter fandom. I honestly enjoyed his fanfictions more than I enjoyed the books--the last two Harry Potter books were more like bad fanfic than actual novels, as far as the character interaction and the choices the characters made, in my opinion.
If you love Harry Potter and won't be too terribly disappointed with a permanently unfinished story (Sam quit around Harry's third year of school, but he did post the ideas and snippets he'd had for the last four years) and aren't opposed to some Sirius/Remus, do yourself a favor and check out Stealing Harry, Tales from the River House, and Laocoon's Children. They're well written, the character development is in character and believable....I still prefer them to the actual books.

There's tons of highly regarded published fanfiction out there (I even read one such novel in school- Grendel) so I don't see a reason why people deride it so much. The fact is, most of the stuff online is junk because there's no way to sort through it all. Everything we read that's been published has gone through a bunch of steps to make the writing polished. The agent had to pick it out, then the publisher decided to buy it, and then it went through a long editing process. Therefore, I don't think it's fair to insult all fanfiction on the basis that it's not as good as most published work.

I've seen so many fanfics that are so terrible... But there are those that are amazing, and the ones that are pretty bad but still entertaining. I hate it when you get really into one of the good ones and the author suddenly quits. It makes me so mad!

I think if the story is writen well it's usually worth a read. Though it's always a bonus if the author uses good grammar and the spell check. :D

Fanfiction....is my life. I spend innumerable hours on ff.net in order to get my fic fix. It's actually kinda sad ("my fandom has murdered my GPA").

I'm a yaoi freak--i love yaoi so much that het pairings seem weird :P But I think that fanfic is all about what "could have" happened--whether it's behind-the-scenes romance or an alternate ending. Even AU can be fun. One thing I can't stand is inexplicable OOCness (I'm not against OOC, but I like to be told beforehand rather than randomly jumping into a fluffy Death Note fic).

Perhaps the weirdest/worst/best/saddest/coolest part of this addiction is that I immediately jump onto ff.net after finishing a book/anime/manga/movie. It's like I get to live the whole thing over again from a different perspective--which is also an extremely important part of fanfic: the fact that you can see other people's interpretations of a certain fandom, and collectively speculate on different sad/happy/confusing/frustrating/amazing/unusual events, people, and things in said fandom.
