Yeah, the later years kind of... yeah. XD Don't get me wrong, I still like them, it's just that... Well, for instance, Half-Blood Prince, all the way through I was wondering, "Did some fan-fiction writer manage to publish in lieu of Rowling?!" Mainly because of the whole Ginny thing. But then I got used to it. 8P

They just stopped feeling as... magical. They just got all dark and broody and emo.

You know what, that's it! That's kinda how I feel about it, too. I just could never put my finger on it before. O__O;;;

My favourite bits was when they were happily attending lessons and worrying about homework.

Voldemort was only supposed to turn up in the last 5 minutes.

Well, now I know which books to read when I'm feeling magical and all "They lost my owl acceptance to Hogwarts," and when I'm feeling all emo and "Take down dem Death Eaters, Potter!" XD

I used to REALLY want to go to Hogwarts xD

I started reading the books only after I won a prize in a Harry Potter drawing competition when I was 8. We had to design the 4th book cover, before its release. I invented "Harry Potter and the Crystal Palace".

I got a signed postcard from J.K Rowling, which I've since lost. x]

My older sister was very annoyed because she won nothing, and she'd read all the books and been to a book signing in our local store. (This was before the 3rd book)

I, on the other hand, had read a bit of the 1st book and been unimpressed. :'D
But after that competition I got into it.

Yeah, same here. I read some of the first book, didn't like it that much. Few years later, picked it back up.... And the rest is history. XD

Hey I just wanted to say I really liked you're idea about the zombie writing contest, I've never heard of just a thing. Cool stuff ^^ Maybe some time I'll read them.

On sort of topic : I remember spending hours exploring the official harry potter site when I was younger, I remember that wand shop where you'd get your own special wand. :) I've only read up to the Third book though I think.. Seen all the movies in theater if that's and saving grace. :D

@ Goblin - I decided to change the original ending of my story to something happy, I figured that 'feel-good' material is more popular. x]

I think it depends which works best.

I like happy endings, but it wouldn't quite work in Romeo and Juliet. But I suppose... "thus with their death, [they] bury their parents' strife."

I have read and scribbled on the entries I've got so far, and I know the winners provided there are no more entries.

Ooh, exciting!

I'm not sure how I feel about happy endings. You want it to happen when you're reading the story, of course, but good storytelling sometimes means you can't get what you want. So I suppose I like a mix of both. Happy endings to satiate my need for them, and unhappy ones to make me think.
But of course, an unhappy ending just for unhappy ending's sake is just as bad as a sickeningly corny happy ending.

You speak the truth.

The most depressing thing I've ever watched left me positively shaken. xD
It's a BBC docudrama from 1984 called "Threads", broadcast on TV, about the impact of a nuclear war on Britain. It's almost unbelievable that it was written and shown at that time. Leaves a far greater impression than anything achieved by modern apocalyptic special effects.

Part one:
YouTube - 1984 BBC docudrama on nuclear war and its effects (pt 1of13)

The build-up before the bombing lasts an hour, so the horror doesn't set in for a while. But if you do watch it, watch the whole thing.

Hi Pearl et al! How's it going in here, then?

Edit: I prefer tragic romances myself. There's a greater range of emotion involved in them.

Oh yay zombies! Although my avatar on here isn't a zombie at the moment. XD I have zombie avatars on a few sites though. Unfortunately I'm not a writer or any good at writing, so no writing contests for me. >_<

@ Biggsy - it's good, I'm wondering when I should release the results. It's early in the day in the US... I'd like to release them in the evening.

@ Vicki - that's a shame!
