Rules:
Medieval-ish time period
All races and creatures are welcome {even unicorns but be a little secretive and creative about that, because according to legends, unicorns are extinct}
No god modding
Profiles aren't necessary
Be polite
Have fun

Legends say, somewhere there exists a crystalline figurine, in the shape of a unicorn. Carved from a unicorn's crystal horn. Unicorns haven't existed for centuries, or so it is believed, but this crystal unicorn has the power to cure any disease, dispel any curse. It has the power to grant any wish, but it is a delicate thing, and can easily be corrupted by those dark of heart to cause any disease, cast any curse, spend torment and terror instead of healing and peace. Many have tried to find it, but all have failed.

Is it only legend, or does it truly exist? What purpose will the one who does find it use it for? Will it be for good or for evil?

My Character:

Kurako

A half-elf born from death, and death is his curse. Kurako's mother had fallen in love with a human, a man who left her once he learned of her pregnancy. She died during child birth, using her last breath to curse the baby as it was being born and the father of her child. As soon as Kurako came into the world, as soon as his mother breathed her last breath, the forest where his elven village was began to wither and die. As if nature itself had been cursed, Kurako's body was covered in dark lines. Like black veins on the outside of his flesh, wrapping and winding around every inch of him except for his face. The elves of the village pitied him. Poor pathetic cursed baby. An elven woman in particular grew fond of him. When he began to love her as if she were his own mother, a wasting sickness came over her. The elves cast him out, immediately blaming him, and it was him but Kurako didn't understand that yet. He was still very young.

A human found him then, a man who was a master thief. This man taught Kurako all the ways of proper thieving, sleight-of-hand tricks, how to vanish in the shadows. Kurako learned quickly under the human's tutelage, and eventually surpassed him as a thief. As his feelings grew for his adopted father, the man began to develop the wasting sickness and eventually died. Sometime after the loss of his adoptive father, Kurako fell in love with a beautiful girl, and she too succumbed to that wasting sickness. It was then that Kurako fully realized it was his fault. He was the cause of the deaths of everything he loved. He keeps his skin covered, to hide those black markings over his body, though now it seems the lines have begun to appear on his face. He is quick and very good at stealing, though not too long after the death of his love, Kurako began to earnestly search for the Crystal Unicorn, in hopes of ridding himself of the curse that courses through his veins. The curse that might even kill him one day.

Opening Post:

Kurako followed the road, it was a winding road, well traveled though mostly used by merchants traveling from one town to the next. The half elf's destination was the town that lay still some long miles a head of him. He had heard tell there was a great library in the city of Lita'Ria and that was exactly where he meant to go. The sun was high in the sky, so it must have been near noon, and it was warm, but Kurako was fully clothed, every inch of him practically covered. His face was the only thing exposed, and Kurako hated that. Only because the evidence of his curse had begun to appear there.

Why? He didn't understand why it was spreading now. For centuries it had only extended up to his neck, never beyond. Perhaps the curse was growing stronger? He wasn't sure, he could feel the darkness coursing through his body, but it felt the same as it always had. If it were stronger, would it kill the things he cared for, sentient and non, animate and inanimate, faster than before? Kurako had spent a very long time in a solitary life, so he didn't know, nor would he deliberately get close to someone again. For their sake, and for his own sake. Grief weighed as heavily on his heart today as it had the first time he figured out he was the reason why all the things he loved died. That grief had not eased over the years.

The half elf shifted the pack of supplies hanging on his right shoulder, he was armed with a dagger on his belt and several smaller ones hidden up his sleeves, that he could access with a flick of his wrist. Kurako was a thief, a rogue of sorts, most of the things, if not all, including the pack, had been procured with less than honest means. He shook his head slightly, pulling the hood of his sleeved cloak up over his head and tugging the edge of it down a bit. Perhaps the shadow of it would prevent those he passed by from seeing the marks on his face, if he kept his head down.

So far, to his relief, he hadn't met any other travelers, but it was a oft used road, so that could change at any moment. A horse would make this journey faster, but Kurako didn't want to risk that again. He had somehow become to fond of his last horse and it had died days ago. He grit his teeth, moving with a determined stride. He would find his answers.

Patrin
Patrin has feathery platinum blonde hair and golden eyes. He has sun kissed skin, a pale brown goldish color. His ears are delicate shells, his features elegant and unheartly seeming though he looks like a human.

He purposefully wears ugly clothing to try and distract from his appearance. The shapeless things somehow seem elegant on him, all eathy browns and wildlife green.

He ran from the city, booted feet pounding against the earth. It had all been too much! The smells, the scents; all the roiling emotions had clashed against each other, only rarely merging into one. His heart ached, and head felt like it would split into a thousand pieces.

Patrin bounced against something tall, and swathed in even more clothes then he wore. The man shook his head, and felt his ears try to twitch. Golden eyes lifted to peer at the other man, though he looked with his other senses as well ... Such walls! He had never come across anything like them, and yet Patrin still sensed something wrong, unnatural, sad? He shook his head some more and scrambled to his feet.

Patrin fluffed his clothes up, and looked at the ground instead of at the stranger. Being rude was the last thing he wanted.

He heard the footfalls before he saw the man, running. As if the dogs of hell were nipping at his heels, it took Kurako a moment to realize that the man was running straight towards him. Normally quick to react, Kurako let the other bump into him, or rather, he had actually reacted a bit too slow. His mind to weighed with thoughts for his actions to be quick enough to avoid the collision, he was quick enough to move back after the initial hit. Feet moving with precision in a way so that he stepped back with the momentum of the bump to keep his balance instead of falling.

Gloved hand moved quickly to tug at his hood a bit more, trying to keep his face in it's shadow, but the sun was high and the shadow not as dark as Kurako would have liked. His lavender colored eyes roamed over the now standing figure before him. His lips parted slightly as he took in the sight before him. His first reaction was to look the man over for something to still. A thief's instinct, but this man didn't seem like the sort to have anything worth taking, if anything at all.

Kurako looked past the other for a moment, for a long moment. His body relaxing when he was satisfied that the other wasn't actually being pursued by anyone or anything. "Even if you're in a rush, you should always watch where you're going." There was no irritation in his voice, only amusement.

He snorted and dug a foot into the ground like a horse. "I must get into the wilds ..." Something akin to him called out to him, he who thought he was the last of his kind. Patin rubbed his shoulder and glanced away.

To leave behind all those people ... To be in the forest once more ... That would be paradise to him. And if he found another? Pure bliss! After centuries of searching, he'd nearly given up, but then amid all the noise something had flashed, a recognizable pattern that had long since nearly faded from his mind. In running away, he had headed towards it without knowing, and it was that way that he looked, though now it seemed like there were echoes everywhere.

Kurako studied the man before him, watching his movements almost carefully. Though that was just how he watched strangers, usually. The half elf shrugged when the other spoke, shaking his head slightly. "The wilds are dangerous. Full of wild beasts and the like, hence why it's called the wilds." He reached up to shift his traveling pack slightly, his eyes never leaving the other for more than a second at a time. "You don't look like you'd survive a day on your own in the wilds." That amusement graced his voice again, and it danced in his eyes.

Even Kurako had used the road instead of running through the forests, though he had been known to travel the untamed parts of the world almost as easily as any elven ranger born and bred for such things. He shrugged again, it wasn't really his place to stop someone from going where they wanted, and he even took a slight step to the side, as if to allow the other pass him by.

He blinked. The wilds had always been home. All creatures accepted him, and if they didn't he was more then able to defend himself. "You might very well be surprised." Patrin stepped forward, but stopped. So many walls .... Impenetrable, almost. Why were they there, separating this man from the world all around him?

"Come with me as my guard. I can make it worth your while." He made it seem like he had changed his mind, decided that he actually did need help. Patrin slid a hand into the folds of his clothing, and retrieved a small bit of shiny white stone. He liked the sparkle of it, and kept it with him because of that, and not the value of the diamond. He wriggled it around so it caught the light, and threw it to the ground. "You seem capable enough to do that. And ... perhaps what I seek might be able to help you as well." He could help, if he knew the problem, at least he could try.

Amusement was the only thing reflected in Kurako's features as the other replied to him. When the man stepped forward, Kurako didn't move, there was no need for him to move. The step hadn't been threatening, it had just been a movement, and Kurako recognized it for what it was, a movement of which the purpose had simply been to bring the stranger closer to the half-elf. Kurako could've stepped back, but there was no need for such a thing.

Lips parted as if to reply to the first thing the other had said, but the man spoke again and Kurako shrugged. He was a thief, a rogue, but for the right price he could be a body guard, a mercenary. Whatever was asked of him. For the right price. Lavender eyes didn't miss that glint, the way the light reflected perfectly in the stone the other pulled out. His earlier assumptions of this man had been wrong it seemed, for that was a diamond the stranger held. Something inside Kurako told him to take the rock and run, a darkness inside the half elf that had been growing stronger over the years.

Still it was easy enough for him to push away that darkness, elves could easily be corrupted by darkness despite their innate resilience to most magic, but the human half made it easy to turn away those dark thoughts. He gave a lingering look to the diamond, and then in the direction the other had come from. The library in the town probably held more answers for him than this man. Still, the thief was a soft hearted man, despite the growing darkness within him. "I suppose a detour wouldn't hurt." He moved to retrieve the diamond. "Especially if more of these will be coming my way."

Once the diamond was in his hand, it vanished into one of his many hidden pockets with a simple sleight of hand trick that would be very hard for non-humans to follow and impossible for a human to notice at all. It was magic without actually using magic. Kurako gave his head a slight shake, his hood slipping just a bit. "Oh? And what exactly do I need help with?" How could this man know he needed anything of that sort? Kurako didn't show his suspicion, he only seemed even more amused by the other.

The diamond flashed as Patrin let it fall from his fingers. How such a small thing could create such reactions in people, he still failed to entirely understand. "More may come, if you do your job well." He had a neighing kind of laugh. "And I'm certain you will." The glint in the stranger's eyes made him believe so.

Patrin stepped off the path and into the woods without hesitation. He spoke over his shoulder, answering the other man as he ducked beneath branches with all the grace of one born to run. "No one visits Lita'Ria without reason. Most seek knowledge, answers to their questions." He shrugged, trying his best to pass off his words as nothing more then an assumption, and not knowledge. One would think Patrin was used ot hiding his abilities, what he was, and yet he was clumsy about it.

A smirk appeared on Kurako's lips, not that amused smile, but a genuine smirk. "You'd be hard pressed to find one that could perform better than I." Kurako followed the other off the path, watching the man before him rather intently before a last lingering look was tossed over his shoulder towards that town. That town with all it's books and scholars. The library there couldn't be rivaled by any other in existence, or so rumors said and Kurako was inclined to believe such things. Still a delay in his trip there probably wouldn't hurt. Kurako honestly hadn't expected to find much, but there was hope at least. A small possibility.

"I was just looking for a good book, but a good adventure is far better than any book, no matter how well written." The words were spoken with a shrug, with amusement. Trying to hide his true reasons behind such a false one, no one really needed to know what the half-elf was looking for. If he thought this man could truly help him, then he'd be more inclined to discuss such things, but what could this person offer him? Other than the obvious diamond already resting in a hidden pocket. "I am called Kurako" It was a word that meant child of darkness, not a real name, more a title and the half-elf knew it was a very fitting title for him.

Once he had held a real name. His adoptive father had given it to him, but he buried that name with his wife a very long time ago. When he had discovered that it was his curse that had killed those he loved. It was an even more fitting name, in Kurako's opinion, as he felt that the darkness of the curse would corrupt his heart eventually. It would take a while, maybe a few more centuries, but he could feel it growing.

Kurako's foot falls were silent and light as any elf's, which was an accomplished feat for him, considering his half human heritage that sometimes made him a little less agile than a full elf.

Sounds followed his every step, but sometimes he forgot. Seeming human, Patrin did try his best, but he slipped up. Making branches fly back to wack him in the face on purpose was the hardest part.

He hoped he would finally be able to tell someone what he was. This man certainly seemed like he needed the help. But how could he tease such information from him? Patrin kept following the tug in his gut, the pull towards some possibility that there were others. "Patrin, is what I like being called." He didn't know if the name meant anything. It just sounded good to him.

"You are ... silent as an elf. Do you have any sylvan heritage?"

"Wood elf, I think. I'm only a half an elf though." There was a slight grimace in his voice, a tensing of his body. Humans tolerated half elves easily, in most places. In some places, not so much. Other elves could be very intolerant of half elves, with humans it was hard to know which ones were tolerate and which weren't. Kurako had seen his fair share of shunning from plenty of races, just for being some half bred amalgamation. Not fully one or the other but a mix of human and elf. Kurako could pass easily for a full elf, if he tried, and he often put forth that effort when surrounded by other elves or humans.

It was easy to fool humans, though it was one reason why he kept his hood up and his hair long. To hide his ears, not quite pointy enough for an elf but not quite rounded like human ears. As Kurako observed the other, he began to wonder that Patrin was human. The man crashed through the forest as loud as a blundering bear at times, though it looked almost forced to Kurako's trained eyes. He wouldn't bring it up, let the man keep his secrets. It was none of the half elf's business anyway. Besides if he brought up Patrin's secrets, then there was nothing to keep Patrin from trying to pry into Kurako's secrets.

"You step through the wood like a crashing boulder. Not what I expected from one who willingly wanted to enter the wilds." That amusement was in his voice again, though Kurako's body was still slightly tense awaiting the reaction to his revealed heritage, while somewhat trying to distract from it with his boulder comment. It wasn't often that Kurako would freely reveal things about him like that, even if those things were only his heritage.

Maybe he was over doing it. Patrin eased into a more steady lope, less clumsy, but still rather horrid. He was intent on finding one of the trails deer so often left in their wake, or anything of the sort.

Off to right, one such game trail veered off, but not in the right direction. It went towards the city, and across, in the opposite direction then Patrin wanted. "I see. That explains why you hide your appearance." He glanced at the half elf before slipping onto a trail that actually went where he wanted. Red berries lined the way, raspberries. Patrin worked to avoid the thorns, and winced whenever his skin was scratched.

A light smirk on his lips as he watched how Patrin reacted to his boulder comment, easing himself into a more easy stride. Kurako's body relaxed when the other didn't really react to the information of his heritage. At one time, that had been the only reason he constantly wore his hood up and his hair long, but now the dark markings had begun to appear on his throat and face. That made him try to keep his face hidden more completely under the shadow of his hood.

Perhaps he should invest in some sort of mask, but such a covering wasn't his style. Despite the fact that he kept the rest of his body covered so completely. "Yes." That was his simple, almost off handed reply to the other's words. He followed Patrin onto the trail, lined with berries. Kurako moved easily, occasionally getting nicked by a thorn, but only occasionally. It was impossible to avoid every thorn, but his clothing protected him well enough from such things. "Where exactly are we going?"

"I don't know." The moment he said the words, Patrin regretted it. Now he would need to explain. "I have magic of a sort. It pulls me into the wild, and the destination will only be clear when we arrive." Should he say more? "I believe it as something to do with unicorns. Their energy is very distinctive I hear, and this ... I have never felt anything like it." Not quite the truth, but close enough.

The further they went from civilization, the more at ease Patrin felt. He wanted to run, but couldn't. The guard would be able to tell something was wrong. Already, Patrin suspected he had aroused some suspicion. He supposed it couldn't be helped.

"Being half elf and half ... something else, seems like it would give you the best of traits of your heritages." Hopefully the poke at Kurako's ancestry would distract him.

Kurako's amusement had only increased when Patrin admitted he didn't know where they were going. That amusement wavered a bit as the other male explained further, suspicion lingered just beneath the surface of Kurako's slightly amused expression. Normally he was good at keeping things hidden behind an air of amusement, but the mention of unicorns had surprised him greatly. For two reasons. One, unicorns were extinct, had been for centuries and two there was an artifact of sorts rumored to be made of a unicorn's horn. A last vestige of their existence if such a thing was real.

Research on that artifact, and his own curse had been leading him to Lita'Ria's massive library. Kurako's lips parted to speak, but Patrin continued talking. Mentioning Kurako's heritage as a distraction ploy. It was a ploy that Kurako was familiar with, it was one he used often. Turn the subject of discussion back on your partner when you've accidentally let to much slip. It usually worked if done right. Kurako let it work on him, choosing to observe Patrin more before prying into what was really going on. "Unicorns are extinct." The words were said in an offhand manner.

Then Kurako was shrugging. "Half elf and half human." There was no amusement in his tone, just indifference. "The agility and prowess of an elf, hampered and hindered by the clumsiness of a human. I've worked hard to hone my senses, to make them as sharp or sharper than an elves. Sometimes the human clumsiness gets in my way, no matter how hard I try to keep such thing at bay."

There was a frown on his lips and he had stopped moving. Scowling slightly. "Doesn't matter how hard I train, how much effort I put in to it, I'm always only just on par with a full blooded elf's abilities if not slightly behind. I suppose I can't complain much, as I always surpass even the best trained humans." It was a sore subject, and Kurako usually didn't reveal such things, especially his shortcomings to someone he had only just met. Something about the presence of the other had the words easily tumbling from his lips.

It pained him to be reminded of how people thought of unicorns. He knew there was at least one left; sometimes Patrin feared the whole world was right, but then remembered that there were ways for unicorns to hide in plain sight. He stopped. Faced with Kurako's frown, he offered a hesitant smile. There were birds twittering about, squirrels chattering, and wind blowing through the trees live waves across the sea. How could he not smile, despite the squeezing of his heart, the wrench of negative emotions.

"Elves are known to be rigid in their ways. Your adaptability, I assume you are so to accompany me into the wilds so unexpectedly, that most certainly comes from your human heritage. Yes, humans are weak ... physically, but they are the most adaptable of races because of that. " He tilted his head, and knelt to the forest floor. Patrin cradled a lone white blossom between his fingers, contemplating it, rather then make Kurako uncomfortable. "Embracing both sides of what you are should allow you to surpass even the most adept of your elven kin." Experience tainted his words with truth. Patrin had witnessed the growth of those with mixed blood before, seen what they could become if only given the right encouragement.

"Elves are pragmatic, humans are fickle and ruled by emotion. I'm just an opportunist. You threw a diamond at my feet, I assume I'll get that and more when we've accomplished whatever it is you're doing in the wilds. Though I'm also a rogue, I could just be waiting for the opportune moment to strike you down and steal whatever other jewels you have hidden within the folds of your clothes." Kurako had shrugged slightly, watching Patrin almost carefully.

It was easy for Kurako to call himself a rogue, even though his clothing was too fine for any thief to wear. Not quite of human design nor of elf design but a mix of the two almost. Another shrug. Such fine clothes was just a distraction, a disguise of sorts. No one would expect someone dressed like that to be a thief or rogue, it made being such things are the more easier. "I don't think I'll surpass any of my elven kin anytime soon." Gloved hand moved, reaching down, and waiting. Offering Patrin a hand up.

"You don't know where we're going, do you at least know how long it'll take us to get there?" Kurako was changing the subject.

Patrin grasped the other man's hand. It was an opportunity he couldn't resist; he hoped he could glean more insight about Kurako from the touch. All the pale haired man got was the sense of a taint, and more sorrow then he wanted to deal with. It would make his facade crumble, his disguise become useless, since his instinct was to offer aid, healing. Instead, he needed to fight against it. "You could try to kill me." He would be in pain, terrible pain, but he wouldn't die. His kind were notoriously hard to kill .. and yet he feared he was the last.

"I couldn't say. That is a mystery to me as well, though I suspect what I seek lies upon those far away mountains." He had been there before with others like him, a very long time ago. It made sense that this trace of energy he felt would come from there. Of course, those mountains were dangerous, for Kurako. He worried the half elf would be harmed by the defenses the horned kind had created around one of their homes.

Try? Was that a challenge? There was only amusement on Kurako's expression as he helped Patrin to his feet. "Ah, well I'm only in the habit of killing when it is completely unavoidable." He looked towards the mountains when Patrin mentioned them and frowned just slightly. A bow would be better for such terrain, but as Kurako had been intending only to go to another city, he had not brought one with him. He realized now how stupid that had been, even if he hadn't expected any distractions a bow in some situations could be far more useful than his daggers.

Normally Kurako wasn't so short sighted, and he simply blamed that on being blinded by the hope of finding something in Lita'Ria. Though it was a hope he had little belief in. That frown was gone quickly. "Not knowing much does make it more of an adventure and more dangerous." There was something in his voice, a bit of eagerness as he uttered the word 'dangerous'. Kurako wasn't completely self destructive yet, but he had been on a spiraling journey of self destructiveness ever since he felt that first bite of corruption in his heart.

He would rather die then let his curse corrupt him, corrupt who he was. He was a soft hearted thief, and eventually that corruption would turn him into a vile thing. Kurako knew that was a long way off, but even for a half elf who lived far longer than any human, a century was sometimes no more than the blink of an eye.

Patrin shifted uneasily. He didn't like the tone of voice the half-elf had used. Though the forest all around swayed to beauty, every leaf ad branch a perfect thing in and of itself, it felt like a taint lingered; it lay in wait for the perfect moment to pounce. He felt like it had something to do with his companion, but he just didn't know ... It had been so long since Patrin had felt the urge to heal anyone, to want to help them.

He whinied under his breath as he continued walking. Far away, the tips of the mountains called, looming above like fortresses which never could be tamed, either by man or beast. They simply were. "How will you keep me safe, not knowing what will come?" He would be fine, he knew. The half-blood on the other hand ... His golden eyes flickered to Kurako. The mysterious man had to survive the trials ahead .... He just had to.

The forest was lovely, Kurako much preferred forests over towns and crowds of people. However, towns and crowds of people always had things to be stolen, something to be gained. Out here, there was just peace and beauty, at least compared to towns and such. The wilds could be chaotic, but never as much as the places were people dwelled. "I'm very good at what I do." He gave a slight shrug. "It's not the first time I've escorted someone through the wilds, I'm sure it won't be the last. I expect some fight in the mountains though, goblins like to carve tunnels through mountains and maybe some duergar, that is, grey dwarves."

The words were spoken with that hint of eagerness, it had been a long time since he'd had a good fight. Goblins as weak and unorganized as they were wouldn't really be a threat, but the duergar could be. "Those kind of creatures only come out at night though, their eyes to acclimated to dark tunnels are far too sensitive for daylight." That eagerness slipped from his tone a bit. "As long as we keep a fire, they'd probably avoid us." He almost seemed as if he'd be disappointed if such a fight were avoided. Kurako gave another shrug.

"You'll be fine, I'll get you to wherever you're going safely." That remark was spoken with such offhandedness, as if to suggest Patrin's fears of not surviving were completely unfounded. "As long as there's no rain, there shouldn't be much fear of landslides either. I might not know what's to come, but I've a pretty good idea of what to expect just by observing the terrain and weather. I know how to survive in the wilds and I trust you'll make this dangerous trek well worth my time?" Amusement had returned to his features.

He reached up then, gloved hand grabbing the edge of his hood as he pulled it down a bit so that he could just see beneath the top edge of it. Trying so hard to keep the markings on his face and neck hidden within the light shadow it offered.

He couldn't help the smirk on his face. "The cave dwellers are the very least of the creatures rumored to live on those particular mountains." Patrin was puzzled. Why had Kurako pulled his hood down again, when Patrin had already proved that he didn't care an ounce for his heritage? Distrust most probably. In the old days, such unease with him would have been unheard of. He sighed.

"Here." Once more, he slid his hand into the folds of his clothing, and worked a touch of magic to retrieve some of the pretties he'd collected over the centuries. This time rings sparkled in the sunlight, three perfect circles, with intricate scrollwork and a hint of magic imbued within their very essence. Patrin tossed them to the rogue. "As I said. You will be well paid. Already have been, for doing nothing so far."

Once more Kurako was shrugging. "Cave dwellers are the easiest to deal with. Whatever trouble comes, be reassured, I'll place myself between you and any harm coming your way." That eagerness again, it almost outweighed the amusement that seemed to be a permanent or near permanent expression on the half elf's face and in his demeanor. Patrin was reaching in the folds of his clothing once more, and Kurako's lavender eyes found the sparkly beauties as soon as they were pulled into view.

It wasn't greed that fueled Kurako to be a thief, it was the simplicity that he simply didn't know how to live any other way. It had been what he was taught from a very early age, and so he had soaked up such a lifestyle so completely. The rings were tossed to him, and he moved faster than any human could ever hope to move, catching the three rings easily. Just quick as he had caught them, they vanished into a hidden pocket of his clothing.

"Perhaps too well paid." There was suspicion and that eagerness for danger in his voice. "Generally when someone is paid as well as I, for nothing, they're betrayed at the end of the job and robbed by the one that did the paying." Kurako's lavender eyes roamed over Patrin almost carefully now. He knew the other wasn't what he appeared to be, but wasn't sure what he was just yet. "Oddly enough though, I can't find myself to come to believe that you'd stab me in the back. We shall see I suppose."

For a moment he fingered the hilt of the dagger at his side. It wasn't his only weapon, he had plenty of daggers and throwing knives hidden up his sleeves, his in his boots and various folds of his clothing. He glanced up at the sky as his hand fell away from his dagger hilt and he readjusted his traveling pack. Thinking.

Hours passed in silence after that. Patrin didn't want to push this man, for fear of making him flee or attack. He needed to gain his trust, his friendship. This was what the pale haired man mulled over all the while.

Patrin stopped in his tracks when they neared a waterfall. The rushing of it, the pounding water and the pure energy it emanated, drew him like a moth to a flame. Thirst made him kneel down without thinking. He plunged his head under the cool river water and gulped down huge swallows. Tendrils wrapped around his head, tugged him down. Patrin flailed and splashed loudly, sending water everywhere.

What had attacked him? Only something truly dark and evil would have done so. Slime, mold, the feeling of oil atop water; this thing exuded such feelings like the brightest of stars, though only shadows lurked within, and without ... What an ugly sight! All teeth and jaws, jutting bones and gooey tentacled skin; Patrin caught the one glimpse of it before feeling sharp spikes digging into his skin. Clamping his lips shut, he tried to keep his breath within.

Silence hung between them as they moved, hours passed and still Kurako did nothing to break the silence. Strangely enough it hadn't been an uneasy silence, at least not to him. It had been more a contemplative, perhaps a heavy silence, but not quite uneasy. Soon though he heard the sounds of a waterfall, and even if Patrin hadn't led them towards the water, Kurako surely would've taken the lead.

His companion went to the water, and thrust his head in it rather eagerly. At least, Kurako thought he seemed eager. A slight smile had been forming on his lips. It stopped suddenly as something moved in the water. There was no time for warning, as the thing had already grabbed Patrin with it's appendages. The half elf moved instantly. Sprinting towards the water, his dagger drawn and another, much smaller dagger was in his left hand.

Moments later Kurako was diving into the water, fully clothed and lavender eyes glowing slightly with the thrill of battle, the excitement of danger. He couldn't let that excitement grew too much, as he would have to keep a level head, since not only was his life at stake here. He moved towards the creature as quickly as he could, slashing at it with his daggers.

He would have to get dangerously close to this beast to kill it with such short weapons, but wasn't that the point of using daggers? His first priority was to try and free Patrin so the other could get to the safety of the shore before he dealt with the beast properly. Kurako came beside Patrin and with one of his daggers he cut at the appendages holding the man, with his other he tried to fend off the tentacles that came for him.
