Isn't shepherd's pie a pot pie with mash on the top?

In my area we do a thing where mash is the main course with a thick hamburger gravy, I put it in a bowl and mix in green beans and corn so it's like a giant potato casserole. With peanut butter sandwiches, or even just buttered toast, it's perfect.

Mashed potatoes are delicious, yesss.

Never had it as a main course though! With peanut butter sandwiches too, whaaat? That's definitely an interesting mix!

The gravy is fried hamburger, cream of mushroom, chopped onion, salt and pepper. Served over buttery potatoes with your choice of follow up veggie and a fruit, as well as the sandwich. Maybe I should make that. I've got hamburger and plenty of sides. I just need the soup.

Sheperd's Pie is lamb you know.

If it's beef it's Cottage Pie, just being a pedant here xD The beef mince topped with mash is called Sheperd's Pie by the majority of Brits, but authentically it's lamb, kind of obviously. Peasant food initially, and now comfort food. =3

@Luth- Yes, you should. Fried hamburger gravy though? Like with bits of ground meat in it?
What you mean?

@Jelly: Yus, delicious food! The info is good to know. Shepherd's Pie definitely feels like it has more of a ring to it than Cottage Pie. Ironically, Cottage Pie makes me think of Pot Pie!
So many pies. And savory ones!

Laaaaaaaaaaamb. If only I could afford it!

Fun Fact: In the 1800's French prisoners rioted and said it was cruel and unusual that they were fed on lobster and butter up to 3 times a day because it was considered peasant food.

Ikuto: Fry the hamburger in a pot, crushing it constantly to get a nice fine texture, or leave it chunky for big yummy bites. Add a somewhat finely chopped onion and let it cook in the fat. Next add a can of cream of mushroom and another half can to a full can (how thick you want it) of milk and stir it up. Use salt and pepper to season. If you want, you can toss your veggie in with it and serve the whole thing over mashed potatoes. Next time I make it I can post a picture.

Lmao. XDD That's funny. Lamb is the preferred meat here so I'm getting my fill of it pleeenty.

Ahh okay, gotcha. I've done that same thing except with tomato sauce or something to make a stew. 8D

I can only handle Tuna Helper for so long or so much. One bowl every 2 or 3 months or something like that.

I tried out one of those chili box kit things. That was pretty good.

Oooooh! How cheesy was it?

Also added another~
Quote:
Chocolate Soup with Cake Croutons- Burned my first batch (and ruined the pot), so make sure you keep an eye on the mixture while it's on the stove. Stir, stir, stir so it's not sticking to the bottom. It didn't taste too sweet to me, but I do have a sweet tooth so I'm unsure how accurate that is.

OH MY GOD. I went to our new WalMart in town because, let's face it, everyone loooooves seeing a brand new clean store in town. Hamburger helper has a shepherd's pie and chili mac'n'cheese! You have no idea how excited I am right now. I work for a different grocer in town and I am too revved up to go there again tomorrow.

Ooh!! I'd definitely give those a try!
Let me know if/when you try them!

Aaand another recipe added~
Quote:
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites- Easier than the other ones I made, no cooking required. I think these are a bit healthier too. Used honey instead of maple syrup and set them in the fridge to firm up a bit plus they just taste better colder.

Ikuto, I have a crockpot myself and mine came with a cook book! I could always send you/post a few the favorite recipes of the house if you like! They're super easy and don't need to be watched at all; I've started them and left to go to work only to come home to a wonderfully ready dinner XD

Mine was about $20 at a book store and it came with the crockpot and a cook book. The cashier gave me a weird look before saying, "you're really buying a crockpot at a book store?" Before going on about how it's probably garbage and won't last long. I didn't appreciate that at all. I've had it for 2 years now and it works great!

Once I get home I shall try to figure out where I hid my cookbook!

Haven't tried the new helpers yet, but my friend just came over not ten minutes ago and gave me some fudge she made from a pinterest recipe. She said it's chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla tossed in the microwave, mixed and cooled.
