Did I mention one of the demons uses a hoverboard thingy and the other owns a giant cello he's somehow terribly bad at playing so most of the time he uses it like a giant bat instead? It was Zeruel that Macha saw, that was why he ended up being tethered to him. The bird landed on Zeru's macha cake too. It was a sad waste of cake that day. Part of the curse was also that as a bird, they can't die. So they'll keep coming back again and again to somehow convince this odd being to love them. For all the crack and ridiculous premise, the whole story ends up in tragedy for most of the characters, come to the think of it.

Macha talks too much and Zeruel barely, but they do eventually get along, even if Macha has a habit of misinterpreting Zeru's silence and expressions with completely untrue things. Even when romantic part of the relationship never quite worked out, Macha grew to honestly care for Zeru. The latter was unaware of the curse and what it contains, you see, so he just thought of Macha as a companion who yaps a lot.

There are many characters and other plotty things involved in between, but the ending was always set to end with the world being "erased" and left with an egg in the middle of the vast darkness, where Zeruel would return into.
