Such was the way of the world wasn't it? One minute the waters were a light breeze and the next they howled and darted like a hurricane. What was supposed to be an easy flight turned dangerous as soon as they entered the asteroid belt. Zeke informed Chauhan of the situation, but he couldn't have known how drastic the damage to the ship was. At first, it was minimal, only a few scratches but alarms blared and soon Rajas was running around to alert his fellow soldiers of the situation at hand.

"Seat belts! Air masks! Secure yourselves as soon as possible," he ordered as he flew into his own seat, nearly hitting the window.

For a few seconds panic flooded his senses as the spaceship collided with the Earth's atmosphere but it melted into the disappointment he feared.

Was their mission going to fail so soon?

BEEP BEEP BEEP

Would they not have anyone to report back to their superiors?

BEEP BEEP BEEP

What would he tell his family?

CRASH!

What would he tell his ancestors?

When Raja awoke, he cut his seat belt and crawled from the wreckage, thankful that his body met sand rather than hard concrete.

Where is everybody? he asked, leery of his surroundings. They were just as the history books described them, but they looked nothing like the predicted sketches of Europe. Italy perhaps, but why would that country be so cold at this time of year?

Even so...

This was nature, this was the thing that Emerson described in all of his works. This was at least a sign that they were getting close to what they wanted and what he wanted.

He hesitated to take off his helmet, deciding instead to stand up and survey the remaining soldiers. Not everyone was within his eyesight, which, on its own, was already disconcerting. Sure, Zeke (and Walker) would be able to handle himself (as well as anyone under his wing), but what of those who didn't have a leader? Most of them were ordinary people drafted into the mission rather than volunteers. They were trained yes, but they weren't experienced.

"Walker!" he called into the communication device of his suit. "Collins, Belmont, Underwood, respond!"

No response.

His voice was harsh and raspy from crashing (and being old), but he hoped that it was sufficiently loud enough to catch anyone's attention. The idea of being alone was unfavorable given that he only had a few weeks' supply of freeze-dried food and didn't want to eat any of the flora. Sure, it was living but that did not mean it was at all edible.

Before Riley could say anything, a noise hit Zeke's ears. With acute interest, he jumped to his feet and immediately made a bee-line for the noise. It was one he was all too familiar with -- the sound of a gun.

Uncanny speed thanks to his tank suit allowed him to push faster than he probably should have. Those were the perks of hydraulics in the legs. Sure, his running was clunky and ugly, but his steps were something to avoid, especially if enemies were nearby. Each step cracked the sand below and each step sent out miniature pulse-waves that toppled whatever stood in his way.

Sloppily cutting through the brush, he landed in an area beside a fellow soldier, Ryan. "Was that you who fired shots, doc?" The pistol in his hand was a dead giveaway. "What did you see? Were they people?" He looked behind the soldier and realized nothing pursued him. "Well, whatever it is, it should be dead if you emptied your entire chamber into it."

A firm pat landed on Ryan's shoulder. "It's good to have you. Riley and I landed on the beach. We should probably wander about to look for others. I'm sure Walker and Chauhan are looking for us. Wouldn't want to keep them waiting too long."

Ryan was glad to see Belmont and Zeke walking towards. As he was accosted by Zeke he smiled and said, "I'll show you after we regroup." He still had the bag of bones with him and gestured to it as he said so. He reloaded his pistol and hostlered it. He looked around, amazed at how much of the world wasn't a barren wasteland. It was colder then it would have been the hundred years ago due to the lack of sunlight getting through. The sun was shining though, albeit through massive cloudcover.

He looked to the others and asked, "Have you seen any of the higher ups?"

He felt foolish, one should be used to if not expecting death....right? It had merely caught him off guard, as the pounding settled in his head. He took the hand, slowly standing. Flinching, his body was deffinetly protesting this event. She had mentioned the rover, and loading it with whatever was left after their impact, before finding the others. He nodded to her, hoping now the others would be alright. Honestly, there was no way of knowing which had ended up safe, and which were like this man. There was little point in letting his thoughts get ahead of him, the main thing was to focus on now.

He took a breath, and nearly wished he had not. The rush of air only succeeded in bringing a sting to his senses, as well as an increase to the nausia already in his stomach. He looked to the female by him, tempted to say something, but held his tongue. A waste of time. That was what he was told such frivilous words were, a soldier was to do his duty, that was all. That was what he had been trained for, that was why he was still alive. He seemed to become still for a moment, an odd slightly distant way coming about him. He moved past her, back towards the mangled remains of the ship. Task one was to locate the rover and any supplies.

He scanned over the side of, or what was left of it, of the craft. There was a lot of damage to the outside of the hull, but not really to much of the insides. The seats had been closer intact, so with any luck, what would have been in the cargo hold might be as well. He moved to the back, though here it was a bit burried by debrie and dirt. He took ahold of a sheet of metal, pulling it away from where it was. The thing was heavy, and his body was indeed protesting once more. He felt more like someone was trying to pull his muscles off.

He ignored it for now, focusing on the task at hand. He managed to move it enough on his own, to where it more of slid the rest of the way off. He moved back, out of its path, to expose the back cargo area of the plane. He took a moment to allow his body to stop screaming at him, before he took a better look inside. A lot of things had been thrown around and damaged, a few items sparking at him as he looked around.

There didn’t seem to be any response from the radio so Rajasthan could only assume that the others were either out of range or out of power. The goal, until everyone reunited, was to conserve power and find anyone who was missing. It seemed easy in theory since everyone studied the map of the proposed landing site; however, they were nowhere near that area. In fact, they could have very well been anywhere near the coast. He studied enough of the map to know their exact city, but judging by the weather they were likely in the United States. It was too cold to be the Mediterranean or tropics, but too warm to be near the poles.

Even so, knowing our location will not get us out of here.

He picked himself up and began to wander away from the sandy beach to find any stragglers that weren’t otherwise grouped up. It was his job as Captain to ensure every person’s safety and he wouldn’t be doing his job if he merely looked for the nearest group and continued on. He wasn’t to leave a single man behind unless absolutely necessary. Truthfully, he wouldn’t have minded leaving anyone, but the bare minimum of soldiers behind, but the expenses of training more soldiers outweighed the risk they were taking on Earth. Well, not that there was too much at this point.

"Help! Anyone out there?”

Rajasthan wasn’t sure how long he had been walking or even how much time passed (his watch told him that it had merely been an hour or so) when heard a small voice in the distance, amplified by the helmet. It was Casmir!

The Indian soldier half-ran and half-jogged toward the teal-haired man who was apparently stuck under a large piece of debris. Raja was both relieved and troubled at the sight, choosing to examine the area for any other dangers before acknowledging his subordinate.

”Are you hurt soldier?”

It was a rhetorical question of course. He had obviously been crushed under the weight of the spaceship’s frame with the possibility of broken legs. From what it looked like his upper body hadn’t been hurt too badly, but the fact that he couldn’t crawl out from under the piece of metal meant damage. He knelt down and took the end of the debris with his hands, glancing toward Casmir. Would he be able to get out?

”Listen, on the count of three I'm going to lift this up long enough for you to crawl out so assuming you aren't completely paralyzed you need to help me."

The older man took a small breath before counting off.

One.

Two.

Lift.

A sigh escaped the teal haired male’s lips as he laid on his back staring up at the sky. The voices he had earlier had faded away. For all he knew he had imagined them out of fear to begin with. His head was still pounded, what he wouldn’t give for the pain to go away or for the woman who got him in this ridiculous situation to be here right now so he could give her a piece of his mind. Of course that wasn’t going to happen. She was safe and sound back home while he was stuck under this blasted piece of space junk hoping that shock didn’t set in before he was rescued.

What seemed like hours passed before he heard the sound of quickly approaching footsteps. Thank God, someone had heard him. Casmir spotted Raja as the older man grew closer. He didn’t say anything until the other spoke to him.

“I must say that I fared better than the ship,” he joked lightly, a grim smile on his lips.

He waited for Raja to finish his inspection of the piece of frame that had him trapped. The sooner he was free the better. If he was lucky there would be little damage to his legs. From what knowledge he did hold of medicine the fact he could feel his legs, there wasn’t any numbness, burning or sharp stabbing like pains in them that more than likely they weren’t broken.

“Understood,” Casmir replied with a nod.

The male sat up the best he could and readied himself to move out from under the debris. In his mind he counted as the older male did. On three he scooted as quickly as he could backwards, wiggling back and forth as he does so. He gritted his teeth, the pain in his legs becoming more evident. At the very least they were going to be bruised up.

Finally free he collapsed about a foot away from the large piece of metal frame he had been trapped beneath. A string of curses were said beneath his ragged breath as he laid there trying to get the pain under control. A few moments passed before the teal haired man started his self-inspection. Blood pressure elevated, breathing short and ragged at the moment, head still pounding, minor scrapes and bruises on arms and torso, large gash on left upper thigh, numerous cuts on both legs and able to move limbs. Mobility of left leg limited due to the depth of the gash in his thigh. Could be worse he thought to himself with a slight smirk. Once finished he looked up at the older man.

“Thanks for the help. I was starting to think that I was going to be stuck there forever.”

He used his hand to hold pressure on the gash as he tried to figure out what to do. Casmir’s lavender-gray eyes scanned the surrounding area for something he could use as a tourniquet for his leg. They were going to have to find some of the medical supplies and preferably quickly.

Riley tapped the screen of her own scanner as she looked down at her wrist that it was contained it. She listened for the male's luck before pressing and holding down a few buttons and lowering her arm to reveal a black screen where the scanner data was usually shown. Crossing her arms, the armor clanked heavily against itself as the woman said, "Whe're just a bit off course." Her bright eyes then rolled up towards the red sky, though it wasn't completely so. As she tried to make sense of the scenery, Zeke seemed to have similar thoughts to herself as he made mention to the feeling of the sun.

When he started drifting off about living on the beach, the woman's eyes snapped to him. "We have a mission ta worry about before we consider actually staying here," she said flatly as her eyes followed his motion for her to join him. She didn't join him though, she simply watched him as he continued to speak, this time back on the topic of the mission. She nodded at what he said, it wasn't as though the crash had been his fault, whatever countries had sent the co-pilots should have done a better job in their selection process.

The green haired woman accepted the canteen, making mental note of her own as she took a quick swig of water before handing it back to the male. The water sat in her mouth for a moment as she drank small gulps at a time, brow raising slightly at what he had to say about their training. Riley enjoyed hers, quite a bit, but weapons had already been her job so to learn more about the new technology they wished to send them down with and the fact they let her tamper with her own devices, well, it made it all the better. She finished gulping the last of the water that sat on her tongue as Zeke pointed out his own endangered role. Without him, they would all be stuck on this planet.

She turned her gaze away, running her tongue over her dry lips as she thought more about the situation they had been put in. With the ship scattered in pieces all over the place, they would be stuck there if they could not find another travel-worthy space vehicle. Yet, with how long they had been in space, did Earth even have the technology to create such a machine to get them back to their respective homes? A smirk crossed the woman's face and the fact that the green haired male had asked her a question seemed to be lost on her.

Moments after the male stopped speaking, they heard something in the distance. Shots were being fired. The caliber round, though powerful, was small, a pistol round. Instant Riley pulled to her front brain the list of people that carried such a weapon that came with them. She made sure to keep track of such information in case she could convince one of them to let her mess with their weapons.

As soon as Zeke took off, Riley followed. Her speed easily kept up with Zeke's, but then again, they wore the same suit. She allowed the male to make the trail for them through the mess and brush as she kept her ears peeled to the surrounding area. All seemed calm for now, but the earlier shots should have said different.

The woman stopped slightly behind the male as she eyed the male before her, Ryan, he carried with him a bag though didn't seem to show much concern over the matter that had taken place not long ago. Riley pursed her lips at the thought that he just didn't seem too concerned over having discharged his weapon. "Docta'," she said, her accent think as she fought to keep her pulse down. She didn't like the idea of a fellow solider having to fully fire his weapon and then acting if it never happened. "Would you be so kind ta tell us w'ot it was you shot?" Her gaze was dull, or rather, it was sharp and void of playful emotion as she watched the dark haired male.

Before the male could reply, Riley could hear shouting in the distance (Casmir). "We will check on that, talk while we walk," she said as she pivoted on one foot to turn away from the male, it was a very military-like turn, very controlled and smooth. Without another word, nor glance back, the green haired woman began walking away, expecting the two men to follow.

"I came in contact with some hostile wildlife. It didn't seem to like my crashing into it's den. It attacked and I shot it." Ryan said, walking behind the green haired woman. He noticed how military she was ans suspected she was in the service before this mission came about. Despite having trained with most of these people for five years, he came to the realization that he barely knew anything about his companions. "Have you noticed the low toxicity of the air. It's quite amazing. I suspect that after we left, humans that is, vegetation over ran the planet and operated as a natural filtration system. The Amazon is probably back to pre-Industrial Revolution size and beauty and the redwoods of California are probably beautiful. Did you know redwoods created ecosystemsfor plants hundreds of feet in the air? Their Dead needles would drop onto it's lower branches and created soil for the smaller plants and animals." He had begun to ramble and it made it hard for him to stop.
