Laila felt a wave of dizziness wash over her as she paused in front of the Elder Temple. This morning's news still left her off balance in a way that even her pure white wings could not help her steady from. The best friend she loved and played with all her fledgling years has turned away from God. Made to fall, she had been thrust away from heaven and sent down to earth where all the fallen angels went. Laila alone still stood with her wings and lilac colored hair dancing in a pleasant warm breeze. The question she wanted answered was why.

After another few seconds, she felt steady enough to approach the ivory doors where she slipped inside and went to pray by the altar with the elder angels who knew far more about this world than she. Many angels already knelt at the base of the steps leading up to a golden relic, both praying and seeking advice from the elders.

“Master,” Laila murmured as she took her own spot next to the teacher she had come in search for. In her fledgling years, he had guided her on all the angelic doctrines. If perhaps there were some leeway, some exception that she could find, then maybe things could change. Although the older angel did not turn to her, she knew that she had his attention. “Could I trouble you for advice?”

“…About your friend who has fallen?” the man answered with no prompting. Laila hung her head that she should be so transparent, though he was a master and her just a young angel who knew nothing of the world yet. Nothing except she did not expect things to turn out this way. After a second, she nodded her head in response. “The doctrine is clear. You can never meet with her again, lest you wish to fall as well." He turned finally, his chestnut colored locks falling across his shoulder. "God's will for us is our existence. You cannot stray."

Laila rose to her feet, an unreasonable feeling rising in her who was also so gentle, like the breeze. "But I must know why. What wrong did such a good angel commit!" Eyes turned and Laila flushed, ashamed of herself. Still, she did not hesitated until her teacher silenced her with a single gesture.

"That is not for you to ask!" To hear a raised voice from an elder, Laila knew she had spoken wrong. This wasn't like her at all, but nor was this like her friend, right? "Go to the inner sanctuary and pray about your misguidance, young angel! Pray that He might forgive!"

Pulling away, Laila rushed back out the temple doors. She did not go to the sanctuary though. As wrong as it might be, she needed at least once to meet up with her friend and ask why. It didn't matter what the elders said. If anyone deserved a proper goodbye, it was her. Spreading her wings, Laila flew down toward earth with just that intent in mind.
