I think leaf cutter ants don't eat grass either, they just cut the leafs and bring them back to their hives so that certain types of fungi they do eat grows on them.

Yeah, that's the type we use, we get these ant bait things that looks like this and leave them out, with dubious success because I've never seen ants enter or exit them but sometimes their numbers decrease after a while.

Also, I think leaf cutter ants are limited to Central and South America, if memory serves. I saw some live ones in Peru! People looked at me like I was crazy when I was taking pictures, ha ha.

As for the topic: Love dinner the most, but any meal time can be nice. It’s hard to choose a favorite meal. I love naan + curry, gyros, fajitas, sushi, ramen, bibimbap, and just about any dumpling or stirfry Chinese dish. Noodles and pasta are my week spot too although I don’t eat them that much since when I cook at home we typically have rice + soup + veggie sides + main dish.

Why? If I saw them I'd probably excitedly take pictures too

They couldn’t see the ants from a distance, so all they saw was this crazy lady crouching on the side of a trail (it was at Machu Picchu) taking pictures of a low rope-lined fence. A few people even stopped and asked what I was doing and they were like “oh!!” when I pointed them out.

Ohh. Yeah I guess it would seem weird from their perspective where they can't see the ants.

I actually found a youtube channel about ants not that long ago where this dude keeps ants for a living. Gets so into it you feel for the ants sometimes.

@ Anta - In reference to the gel, I did not get the store bought kind. The kind I have can only come from a pest control company. Mine came in a big syringe.

Usually they apply it themselves but I think because I am their neighbor they sold me the syringe itself instead. (My partner also works for them XD)

Oh cool I wonder why they don't just sell the syringes in stores.

Its VERY toxic. I think a lot of companies are trying to move away from things like that so that the consumer is at lower risk by using concealed bait. You can get this sort of stuff online but it's probably too dangerous to keep in a store unless its under lock and key so a kid can't get ahold of it.

Then there's the risk of user error, pets, etc. It's just something better handled by a professional or someone who can be instructed by a professional.

I like how this thread devolved into a conversation about ants, haha.

But anyway, having pets myself, I'm wary of using chemicals and things around them.

Ohh. That explains a lot.

How would one go about using the syringe on the ants?
Just in case I decide to get one of those online one day
Only pets we have right now are some fish and my snake, and they're always in their tanks so it should be safe enough so long as they don't accidentally eat any poisoned ants I guess.

Gotta put it somewhere pets and people wont go that the ants heavily traffic. And to be using it sparingly.
Though I think its usability really depends on what kind of ants, so a specialist is still worth considering.

Oh, too bad it doesn't work on all types of ants. The ones we have are super tiny, not sure what kind they are. If the infestation ever gets really bad we might just have to get a specialist.

A few things to consider. Alcohol or other strong cleaners can be used to wipe our their scent trail. Make sure you do not have any pooling water as they do get thirsty. Clean dishes as soon as they are used, keep all food sealed or in the fridge.

Do they taste bad? Like tainting the flavor of whatever they die in?

For some reason I dislike breakfast, mostly because I often wake up around 8 am or so and feel like if I eat breakfast I can't have lunch until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I like lunch because there always seems to be an endless possibility of what I can eat.

And bacon, bacon is good all day long.

I'm not a big fan of breakfast either.
And this is probably sacrilegious to admit but I do not like pork bacon...only turkey bacon. 😬

I got topic whiplash when the conversation suddenly went from ants back to meals.

Even if we do wipe out some of their scent trails, they'll usually just remake them again in a matter of minutes from I saw. Maybe we weren't wiping out enough of their trails...
We try to keep our food away, but sometimes it's a bit hard with drinks since we're constantly drinking from it and the cup/mug/can would be out in the open for a while.

I'm not sure about the taste, they're tiny enough so I guess I don't notice? I usually scoop their corpses out of whatever I'm eating and finish off the rest of the food and I've never noticed any particular taste.

Not sure what else would be doable for that except find what parts of the house they go and don't put things there and move as they learn new spots.

You are lucky then. Ours would turn your sweet tea bitter from just a single ant :(

Our house is pretty cluttered so that's hard to do. Sometimes they go behind things like refrigerators or shelves and there wouldn't be much we could do in that case ._.;;

Ick D: That's awful! A whole drink ruined from a single ant. :(

Those super tiny ants are probably sugar ants.
When I was living at my daughter's house they had an infestation of these tiny ants...then when I moved to an apartment I found that some had come with me.
I discovered that they had infested the chocolate candy in my daughter's Easter basket that had been kept on my daughter's dining table.
I disposed of all the candy and I haven't seen any of them since.
When we first moved into our apartment we had some of the bigger ants that would come across the kitchen floor from under the stove. I put out some Combat Ant Traps and they quit coming around.

Well...not to the point of packrat cluttered I hope, but we have a ton of stuff lying around. We keep trying to get rid of stuff but a lot of them have sentimental value and I'm reluctant to let them go. D:

No idea if they're sugar ants or not, but possibly. D: It's hard trying to hide away all the food that may be attracting them.
