Barry sighed, holding a container of 2% milk on one hand, and whole in the other. What was the difference? He couldn't pasteurize himself...but what was closest to what came straight from the cow?

Needing milk herself, Evie smiled at the man. "Excuse me." She said, giving him a smile

Barry's ears swiveled and he turned to face the woman. He blinked a few times, considering speaking to her.

Ah, what's the worst that could happen.

"...do you know the difference?" he asked vaguely, holding the cartons out to her.

Still smiling, Evie looked at the two cartons. ". . . Oh, sorry." She said, shaking her head. "Two percent is two percent fat, and the whole milk is the untouched stuff."

Barry held them back to himself, looked at the cartons, and wrinkled his nose.

Why would you take fat out of milk?

He put the two-percent back and put the whole in his cart.

Past that, he said nothing.

Which was fine. You couldn't expect everyone to be friendly, after all. Evie just gave the strange man another smile, getting her little carton of milk and put it into her cart.

"Well, then. Hope you have a nice day!" Her voice was happy and cheerful, and she wasn't just saying it to be polite.

Nice lady.

Barry's eyes went wide a moment.

She had!

In true Urisk fashion, he began to follow.

"What's your name?" Aww, such a cute little accent.

Huh? Evie blinked, looking surprised, and then went back to smiling.

"Evie." She said, holding out her hand. "And who might you be?"

"Barry Fitzgerald," Barry said giving a weak little smile, "It's nice to meet you."

"It is!" Looking at her list, she looked over to Barry. "So, do you need any help with your shopping, Barry?"

Barry blinked.

"...yes, actually. To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm doing."

Evie gave a little laugh. "Well, I don't need to be anywhere. If you tell me what you need or show me your list, I'd be glad to help, s'long as you keep me company."

Barry looked toward his nearly-empty basket, and then back to Evie.

"...meat?"

Another little giggle at the silly man.

"What kind of meat? Chicken, pork, beef? Do you want frozen food, or fresh?"

Barry shrugged.

"Fresh." Oh, he knew what chickens were, but not 'beef' or 'pork'. Hell, those didn't sound Earthly...

"Okay!" Evie lead him towards the meat department. "What do you like?"

Barry sighed, thinking.

"Anything rich..." he said slowly, "...but not expensive."

"Okay...." Evie nodded. "And about how much do you need?"

"It's just me," he shrugged. Thin, bone-protruding Barry and himself all alone in that little shack.

"I know how that is." Evie said, one hand on her hip. "So, if you're by yourself, a pound would be good to start of with, depends on how often you eat it. Maybe you'd like turkey."

Ah! He new what turkeys were!

"Yeah, I think so..."

"Okay... So, do you want meat for sandwiches or....?" Evie asked. Hey, this might take a while, but it was more comfortable than sitting at home by herself.

Sandwich?

"Uh...no. Just for normal cooking."

"Okay." And pretty sure that was all she needed to know, Evie stepped up and ordered some turkey for him, carefully putting it in his cart. "What else, Barry?"

They...they sold turkey in plastic? Dead turkey?

"That's...that's it..." he said, and then turned to Evie wide-eyed.

"But I'll stay with you if you want."

He really didn't feel like losing the only friendly Human companionship he'd had in weeks.
