Though most of the clan turned to watch as Val swooped back into the lair, none of them thought it important to ask. Ohdaviing, in particular, wore his question on his face, 'What has she been rolling in?', but it was never said aloud. The rest, it seemed, were too absorbed in their current roles as adoptive parents. Elwon was the last of the clan to take her eyes off of Val's new glowing coat, more than a small matter of envy had gripped her, but unlike her first meeting with Rei this time she turned her head away and held her chin high, as if to say 'I'm still better than you.'
Ohdaviing tore his attention from Kayta to respond to Val and Gwyn. "I would like to keep no more than ten," he said, motioning with his head to the relatively small temporary nest, "It would be difficult to house more than eight, and even six would be cramped with our limited ability to expand." Though he had never spoken to the others about it, their lair was surrounded by wild beast dens, swamp land and sacred forest; it effectively cut off any potential expansion. "I'm afraid we'll need to move the entire clan soon enough." Gradiel, having overheard the latter part of their conversation, sauntered over to his tree and promptly laid himself around it, now in utter refusal of doing anything else.
