I do recall that username, so it was probably that or something similar! LOL I like to avoid confrontation, so I like to label my cowardness as kindness, you should do the same

Sorry, I’ve been completely checked out and lacking the energy to catch up on my subscribed threads. These were from a bit back now.

i'm so glad you found your new library! it definitely sounds like you should spend a good long day there soon. that sucks about the lack of used book stores, they're such comforting places. and it sucks about the lack of funding too, it's just so glaringly unbalanced. that's how the libraries were where i lived as a kid in North Carolina too, the only one i knew about was in a strip mall and it had about 4 shelves. the schools really aren't great there either.

i hope you end up living somewhere with the most amazing library! i feel like you out of anyone would really appreciate it.
They’re really a calming place. I miss that feeling.

I just wish they were more inviting. I don’t like spending much time in them. And theft is really high in hawaii, so they have security guards that stare you down while browsing. Not the most inviting environment.

Me too! I desperately want a home someday with a nice library and a nice space for a garden. With a big porch to read on. Sounds so nice.

OH MY GOSH YES SU. So many people think I'm insane for liking cream cheese in my sushi. Ah you just made me super jazzed HAHA!
It’s definitely hard to force oneself to go against their second nature and do what is best for their health. It’s unfortunate that other people are such takers and abuse the givers.

Yessss. It adds a unique, but exquisite flavor. People are snobs.

Thank you. Been pretty checked out and have a cold now. But making the effort since there is an event. Miss you all, though.

It brings to mind the quote "givers need to set limits, because takers rarely do."

Yesss. I've been pretty hooked on a sort of sushi bite, I guess. I just take the snack nori sheets, add a smear of cream cheese, a sprinkle of "everything but the bagel", some cucumber, some avocado, and then top with salmon. I needed something to do with cucumbers because I was growing so many, but damn was it delicious. I'm having to actively make myself not eat it for a bit while my cucumbers grow again. I had to trash several due to pickleworms.

Kick that cold in the arse and tell it you have other plans!

That is a VERY true quote, but one very difficult to do

Oh my gosh that sounds SOOOO good! I'm envious that you can grow cucumbers right now *stares at my garden covered in multiple feet of snow* ! My hubby bought me my favourite sushi roll for lunch today and they put so much cream cheese it was a dream!!

I've never had pickleworms!! They sound gross!

@ghost: SO good! I bought the little smoked salmon strips from Costco and that was delicious. Then the next round I bought salmon poké and that was a slightly different flavor but still amazing and much thicker.

The pickleworms had me enraged. Got some BT and have been treating it. Only one plant survived but it is absolutely covered in blossoms right now and already growing new cucumbers, so I hope I’ll have more soon. Two new plants just started growing too.

@randeh: right? My eyes are so swollen today from it. Can’t sleep well either. But that’s also because I have several roommates that always wake me up early using the bathroom and I can rarely fall back asleep.

Definitely difficult to follow

That’s definitely a bonus of being in a tropical location. Can garden all year. Haha. Still figuring it all out though.

I had never heard of them before. It’s moth larva. They will plant eggs on different squash and also cucumbers and they bore into your food and eat it from the inside. I was so distraught when I went to harvest and they were full of larva. Sprayed with BT, which is supposed to help, and hoping the ones growing now make it.

I wrote it in my planner for affirmations for this year! I want to really try to live by it this year. I always give too much of myself, and you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Thank you, Rei!

Absolutely, so it's a good thing you took it with you for your affirmations! But, like Randeh said, easier said than done.
Keeping in mind that keeping yourself healthy and happy is the only way you can help others IS like the best way to counteract our innate urge to give, tho.

For me, I keep a little list on my phone of fun quotes or poems that I happen across, and then afterwards collect them in a pocket book. Like my own little collection of interesting lines. They're WILDLY differing, tho. The other one I wrote down today was "Don't talk unless you can improve the silence", which I heard in the film Ever After, but which is apparently a well known quote... but for me, it's from Ever After.

oooo i just had salmon poke for the first time recently, it's really good! i like the thicker texture too, it's less tonguelike than the plain filet.

i bet they did, it's so frustrating having your plants chomped. that's awesome about the new growth! i love seeing squash blossoms. i know cucumbers don't really count as squash? but i always mix them up with zucchini so i'm calling them squash

@Rei: Yes, it’s easy to say but much harder to implement. I have 3 roommates and 2 are definite takers. I have to try to get on myself a lot because it can become maddening. But I also feel like takers aren’t the type to be as accepting of being told respectfully no.

I love that. Also, Ever After is my favorite movie. Can’t even count how many times I’ve watched it. Absolutely beautiful film and so quote-able. I adore when she quotes utopia to the prince about thieves.

@Ghost: Poké is a huge thing here in Hawaiian and it tastes so good. I usually get ahi because I think it tastes better to eat with rice, but the salmon poke was perfect for the little sushi bites. But the chunks of so thick that I had to cut most in half. Worth it! And you’re so right. The thin fillets are so tongue like.

They feel like a squash, so I get that. I love watching the honey bees all over the blossoms when I water in the morning. I’ve got some zucchini plants growing right now too.

it's getting bigger here on the east coast, thanks to Hawaii! there's a couple Poké bars near me, but i've never been to any. Ahi is really nice, i also just recently tried Escolar and it was so smooth and buttery

that's so nice!! i love seeing the little bees too, they like to fall asleep in our flowers. we get a lot of butterflies at our garden too :D

I definitely suggest if you get the salmon poke again to try the little sushi bites. They’re a really nice treat. Idk what you’d actually call them. I just didn’t feel like making a whole sushi role and it’s healthier without the rice.

That’s so cute! I’ve never seen a honey bee fall asleep. I really miss hummingbirds though.

i will try! would it be Sashimi if it was just the fish without the rice? or is that just when it's sliced like a tongue?

i think they just get drunk on the nectar and get so full they can't move we always get the big ol' bumblebees. hummingbirds are so cool! i wish we could have a feeder, it'd be cool to see what birds we could get to come over. as it is we mostly get Mourning Doves and Sparrows.

Sashimi is prepped different. I believe it’s raw and not marinated. Poké is typically marinated. I could be wrong though.

Oh yeah, I’ve seen snoozy bumble bees. I love their fluffy butts. So cute. Never seen a bumble bee here though.
My dad has all the varieties of feeders. He adores all the birds.
