Hello~! Welcome to my pixel thread! I will update it with all kinds of pretties soon, but for now, I just want to get things started.
Firstly, I would like to say, although I have done numerous small-scale pixel creations in the past for many years, I have never done clothes like this for avatars... :( So I'm really nervous about posting up my work... I am already pretty critical of myself, so go easy on me!! If you have good advice or tips you can give, then feel free to comment! But! If you just want to complain about something with no comments as to how I can improve or what I can do to make it better, then... just don't do it! P(>o<)P
Anyway... So here goes... *deep breath*
~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~
What I've worked on in the past is here and I may bury these in the graveyard:
Here's a sleeker version set (I kinda liked this style with the sparkles, but I'm iffy on it...)
SPOILERX
And here's the first style with sparkles:
SPOILERX
Anyway, I'm nervous about posting them, but... I hope you like them!!! (>m<)
SOMETHING NEW!!
and horrible lol
SPOILERX
Well! I had to try something different for a while since my silky dress was KILLING ME. But! Now I have discovered and entirely new evil altogether!!! TAFFETA! Has anyone here tried to pixel taffeta fabric before? I may never, ever, ever do it again. So here are the rest of the hideous results. I only post them because I really like the lace over-let-y thingy. lol
Oh my! I dunno why you're so nervous. Those are epic!
The dresses are very pretty, I like the lighter colours
The guys clothes are also quite smashing. You should experiment with colour for the shirts. Maybe like a beige?
Anyway, well done you
Thank you soooo much SZP! I will definitely recolor the shirts and post what I've got at some point... :3 I'm working on a "Jellyfish" collection right now, though ;3
XD Aww, thanks! I'm glad you like them! I want each piece to be separate, individual and unique items, so I've got a long way to go... I already know what I'm going to do with the top... but I'm thinking about adding puffy sleeves to match the skirt... as a separate item, not necessarily attached to the top... But, again! I've got a looooong way to go ^^v
Woah they all look amazing! You're quite the designer. I had no idea. I love the elegant dresses and oh my Arceus! That jellyfish dress is so adorable and fancy! Wow. You're so incredible!
Hi hilarbees! I really like your items, but there is one thing that I see that can be improved. The lighting/shading on the items is slightly off. Most of your items are shaded as if the light source is directly in front of the avatar or behind the avatar, and it's actually in the direction that the base faces and slightly above! If you look at most of menewsha's items, you can see it's shaded with this light source in mind.
Your items are very lovely! I hope I'm not intruding, just trying to help out. Feel free to ping me if you need any help. :)
neller: I totally get where you're coming from and I really appreciate the advice! I will definitely keep that in mind going forward!! With these items, I was more concerned about texture than I was about light source!!! D: D: D: Oh well, I'm a lazy person... so we'll see if I ever get around to fixing them lol :/
**edit**
neller: again! Even though I just explained how I'm such a lazy artist, I decided to go ahead and work on the lighting issue. I know I have a lot more editing to do to get it right, but actually with this dress and to keep true to the idea I had, it was kind of difficult for me to figure out the way I wanted the lighting. I wanted it to have kind of an ethereal look to it, but I imagine the fabric being sort of like satin, so the light falls a little differently. I had trouble getting that idea down, too. All because I'm such a lazy artist, haha. I used to work at a fabric store, so I have tons of different kinds of fabric lying around, so it's not that I don't have the resources available... I'm just too lazy to work to get it right :P
Anyway, putting all that drolling aside, here's what I have done so far. Do you think I'm on the right track?
There are spots that still really irk me, but I'm working on them! Any tips or pointers though would be much appreciated!! :)
Well, they're really lovely items. The light is looking better on the dress but its still a little too central. But you seem like you understand pixelling well. :)
neller: well, I've been working with pixels for years, but I've never done clothing items on this scale at all before! ;A; It's quite a challenge! So just to make sure my understanding is clear, I need to move the lighting more upwards, right?
Okay, so I've been working on it and working on it... and frankly, haha, I'm getting sick of looking at it. So here are the results for now. It's time to move on to a new project so I can come back to this one with a fresh perspective.
