Maeve grinned at that and then turned and headed out to find someone to challenge to a match.

Elsewhere, Barnes was settled quietly in Julie's apartment, keeping watch. It was habit by now, and he'd already caught a few hours of sleep. Riolu was asleep in his lap, curled up and content.

Julie herself was on her laptop, frowning at it and tapping occasionally. She trusted Barnes enough to let him keep watch for her while she focused on trying to recover whatever she could of her far too exposed and mangled life and assets. She huffed at her computer, and Growlithe looked up before trotting over to Barnes. Other human could help.

Barnes looked down when the Growlithe came over to him and raised an eyebrow. What did the little thing think he could do? Riolu stirred a bit when Growlithe approached and opened one eye sleepily.

Growlithe huffed at him and looked at Riolu. She event went so far as to put her front paws on the seat carefully.

"Leave him alone, you menace," Julie called without looking up.

"She's fine," Barnes said. He was quiet for a moment, watching her. "What are you doing?"

"Trying to figure out what I have left," Julie told him with a quick, humorless smile. "The info dump is still screwing me over."

Barnes considered that for a moment.

"There isn't anyone else you... trust?" he asked. He hesitated on the word. He wasn't even sure if he would be able to trust anyone, if he was even capable of it.

"There are a few other people," Julie said slowly. "But not many. And one of them vanished on me."

"So go find 'em," Barnes said. Made sense to him: find allies and stick with them until things were good again.

"I already know where one is, I just... don't want to get into that mess," Julie said carefully. "And the one that vanished, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to find him until he's found what he's looking for." She made a face, because Steve had really just up and vanished on her.

Barnes wasn't entirely sure what to say to that. Somehow, he was sure that it was at least partially his fault, but he hardly knew what to do with himself, let alone someone else.

"I... can't help," he finally said.

"It's fine," Julie assured him. "You actually are helping just by watching my back." She shot him a quick smile. "Easier to do this with you than by myself."

Barnes nodded. Keeping watch, he could do that. Easier, now that he'd had some sleep. He settled in again to stand guard for a while longer.

Julie finally gave up on her stuff and grumped. "You want food?" she asked, shutting her laptop down and getting up to stretch.
