☐ Add perspective/disappearing point so bag gets smaller as it goes farther back on the body-- the skull bag EI looks like it's floating and has the strap on the top
☐ Shading on bag - diagonal 3-5 tone gradient slightly boxy curve
☐ Make bag look a little less ball-like and more flat almost ovalish from perspective
☐ Lighten & slightly saturate the face on the bag until it looks more natural, maybe add beveling

right??? i freakin lost my shit when i saw it it's from the old suggestion thread of items for guys on mene, this person apparently created an account just to come berate Mene for not having enough... you know, Ball Juice™ and NOBODY EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED IT EXCEPT TO AGREE WITH HIM DJKSFGSDFG I CAN'T KENT. so i had to use it ironically in my thread to forever immortalize this absolute wordsmith.

lol That is hilarious. I do somewhat agree that this site has always leaned toward feminine, but it makes sense since for some reason avatar sites mostly seem to attract people who were assigned female at birth…

workin on a couple bags! first up i've got the Smiley Face & the Welcome over the shoulder bags, both using the Welcome palette (with some tweaks). i think i'm gonna make one with a Yumeh face too, like the welcome balloons. i'm open to any constructive critiques

I'm on my phone at the moment so I can't give as much constructive criticism as I normally would (because I can't zoom in at a pixel level just now) but something that instantly stands out to me is the faces themselves. Right now it feels very much like something floating above the bag rather then being a part of it. Is there shading in the face too?

The bag part also feels very, whats the word I want here.......you've shaded them a bit like a ball. It feels very rounded both in shape but also in dimension. And it feels very solid. Like its made of plastic(which if either of those things is your goal. Continue and ignore me ) I can't give much more then that right just now but my advice is to look up images online of actual bags to look into how shadows fall on them. I'm not sure at the moment if we have any bags in our old items at the moment, but when pixeling other items, looking into old stuff that we have done is also helpful.

Beyond that, I think its a really neat idea! And even though I look like I have a lot of notes, those things are actually not as bad as they look. You clearly have a good concept of lighting which is a major start!

thank you! i definitely agree with all your points. there is some shading on the face, but it's very slight, i think i need to make the black a little more grey & saturated. and the bag is meant to be a flat circle, i always tend towards that ball-like shading as a default, so it's a really good idea for me to look at pictures. i always forget that refs are good and exist



this is what i'm going for, i'm almost thinking just a diagonal gradient would do the trick...

Channah has a bunch of bags in her commons shop, i was looking through those to make sure i wasn't making anything too similar to something that already exists. it's harder to find like a flat, taut fabric on mene, since it's a pretty unnatural shape for anything but this sort of bag or maybe a drum.

That gives me a better reference point to know what your end goal is then!

Yeah, I wasn't sure you were going to find a reference here on Mene for this particular thing but it was more a note for anything you choose to do further down the line.

Ok so yes, I do think you want to gear more towards angular but like not a rigid angular. More like curved shades then circular if that makes sense. I think you could lessen the amount of the edge of the bag you see as well. Possibly. I'm not 100% on my thoughts on that part yet.

With blacks, btw, most blacks when you shade them are actually a bit of very dark grey tones in them as well. The shading should follow closely to what you have going behind it, because it is essentially part of the same material and not separated from it.

that does make sense! sort of like a polygonal arch? i was having a hard time figuring out how to get a boxyish shape without getting jag, because every time i smoothed the lines it got really spherical.

yeah i was thinking of making the edge of the bag thinner too, and i'm really considering making it so the top of the bag is showing instead of the bottom, i think that would help it look more like it's hanging too and less like it's flush against the skin.

I think moving it to the top might definitely work! I'd give it a shot for sure
