My Blue Heeler/Springer Spaniel, Sashie-belle, almost 12 year old dog went in for a surgery consult.
I had found a lump on her right side approximately 2 weeks earlier.
I had been sent an email that led me to believe that she would have surgery that afternoon and be ready to come home the same day. As it turns out the surgeon said she should have the surgery that day but they would keep her overnight because of her age.
I kept hearing Dana perino talk about her dog and him dying 2 months after being diagnosed. So I really struggled with the decision.
Having to make the decision quickly I decided to go ahead with the surgery and I'll do the probes and prads and have to go under a hesitation more often than she needed.
It was a horribly long day but I finally got a call saying that she'd made it through surgery well and they thought they had gotten everything and she was resting comfortably.

Having gotten updates from the surgeon and calling for updates myself several times during the night she seemed to be ready to come home in the morning. The earliest pick up appointment they had was 0930.
0730 I get a phone call from the on call surgeon saying that she is ready to come home and she is resting comfortably. I am so unbelievably thrilled and relieved to take out this phone call you cannot even imagine. I felt so selfish putting her through this surgery just so she would be here with me longer.
I ride early to pick her up, it's a 40 minute drive to the animal hospital. And in that time she slips into critical condition. The critical condition doctor says that I can visit with her and she seems fine and she's fighting to come with me. They have a harness to the wall on the floor in what they call the beach it's an open Bay area where all the animals are. I feel like I'm upsetting her so I tell her I love her rest and get better and I'll be back to see her tomorrow.

I thought this would be Cathartic for me.
It isn't, it's very very hard.
Didn't do what I needed to do today.
I wish I could just sleep...

Oof I hear that!

I have horrible insomnia too. I'm currently looking for the right sleep aid. It's got so bad that the doctor put me on a prescription. It hasn't been working that well so far sadly.
