Photoshop is pretty easy. xD It's just a matter of practice. Granted my level is nowhere near your brothers. xD

If it's photoshop you can start off by selecting the background as transparent.

if not you can start with a white background (the layer will say background) change it to layer 0 (just be renaming) and then just erase the white and that's how you start with a transparent background. x3
