I thought of using an app but then just said 'eh' *shrugs shoulders*

I don't think there's an app for learning Taiwanese, which is what I'm trying to learn.

It's a dialect, but since no one in the family speaks it, I never got around to learning it. When other people speak it around me it just sounds like gibberish. I only understand a few phrases.

Oh I can as it's more like Cajun. It's a dialect of the French language. It's a shame you didn't understand it from when you were little.

@Kirin: Yeah, it does suck. So many people use it as a form of 'close speech' (like if they want you to buy something they'll use that dialect as a form of talking like if you're friends and not strangers) for many situations I'm always left awkwardly explaining that I don't understand it and they'll all stare at my like I'm weird. It's also annoying because I don't understand it and yet people keep expecting me to and then continue to speak it around me despite knowing that I don't understand a word of it.

@Hummy: They sound almost completely different so it's hard for me to translate them from one to another.

Adapting to a new set of lingo is hard too...I guess I just suck at languages because it always takes me a while before I get them.

yeah, when you have to think too hard
it kind of ruins the language for me

Yeah. I guess my dislike of Taiwanese doesn't help, I don't know why but I just don't like the language so it's interfering with my trying to learn it when I'm instinctively repulsed by it.

And very frustrating for me. I'm like annoyed whenever I hear it but at the same time I have to listen to it in order to try and make sense of what they're saying.

I hope so, it's all still gibberish whenever I hear people speaking it. I only understand snippets like when they're saying 'okay' or are cussing.
