Solaris

For as long as he can remember, Solaris has lived within the walls of the star temple. He has never been outside of his world, but he has a vast knowledge of various things due to plenty of times studying and learning throughout his lifetime. It is unknown exactly how old he is, as he appears as a male around eighteen, but often speaks of things that would have been far before his time in other worlds like he has experienced them. Solaris is known as the guardian of the temple, he knows it inside and out. He knows of the dangers that lie within, and shares a deep connection with it that makes him as much of a mystery as it. He contains both light and dark in his personality, but seems to be more run by the light than the dark. He typically comes off as a warm and kind being, wise beyond his years but also naive at many things, especially social interactions. He has a strong sense of justice, and though he appears innocent and weak, one to never underestimate. Solaris is about six feet in height, with warm tan skin and white hair that at times has a light lavander color to it. His eyes are a piercing crystal blue, that people often say can see through to their very souls.

Solaris is faster and more agile than normal human beings. He has honed his skills, and seems to be a master of stealth and a master gymnast. He is skilled in various forms of hand to hand combat, prefering it over the use of weapons. He has a sixth sense, which seems to let him see deeper into people than others. He can see the mirror sides of people, the light and dark. This often makes him an excellent judge of character, and allows him to "sense" things about others that people would not normally know. It is as if he can read people like a book. This ability also allows him to sense changes in the balance around him, primarily in energy. Meaning he can sense something evil coming or danger. His connection with the temple and the world around him allow him to know things going on within the world, even if he is not around, as if he "speaks" to the temple or the land itself. His true power, lies within what gave him his name. Solaris is a master of the stars. He is able to manipulate energy to his will, which will typically take on a lavander color. His main use of it is to summon "star beings" or guardians of the stars to do his bidding, the strongests are those of the zodiac. The full aspects of his power are a mystery however, like the rest of him.

A small spark of light fluttered through the darkness. Over the white marble coffin that seemed to stand in the center of an empty room on a pedistal. Up to the star shapped mark at the top, before the star began to glow, casting the room in a warm lavander light. The top of the marble coffin vanished, revealing the sleeping male clad in white within. Stirring slightly, he slowly sat up and placed a hand to his head. His eyes opened, and for a moment he was silent. Nothing made noise around him, but words seemed to flow through his mind. The temple was waking up once more, as well as the land. It was expecting visitors, some were already on their way. Sliding out of the coffin, he steadied himself on the side.

A hand whent to his chest, where an amulet hung. If one were to look inside, they would have seen a smooth stone, that looked similar to the night sky. The colors and patterns of stars across it changing. At times, it would hold what looked like a full galaxy, at others, just simple stars. He was glad to see that it was safe and still there. Glancing at the windows, he noted the sun beginning to rise. It had been dark within the world for quite some time, as had he been asleep. He walked out of the room, gaining his strength and balance quickly as he went. He could already feel the world around him waking up, now him as well. He wondered for a moment who would be coming to this place. It was linked to many worlds, many dimensions. It was hard to guess who would come from where.

People could come from different times of the same world...or different dimensions of the same world even. The possibilities were limitless. This was the only plane in existance, that seemed to have ties that could span to all others. He paused just outside of one of the doors, looking out through a series of openings that created windows. He took a breath, people coming here was both good and bad. They had a right to know what they were getting themselves into right? He ran a hand through his hair, taking a breath. It did not matter though, once they signed the unspoken contract of stepping through those gates...there was no going back. He made his way to the stairs, moving down to where he could hear the rushing of the falls.

A mist was carried on the wind, up towards him, and he enjoyed the feeling. A light smile formed on his face, before his body tensed and froze. His eyes moved out over the land, to where a familiar sight greeted him. A pair of large silver gates had appeared, and were now swinging open. There was nothing around them on the grass, nor behind. If one looked through the gates though, another world laid beyond. The first guest was arriving, things were already being set in motion. He could not stop them now, but how would everyone fair when playing their part?

Kurako

A half-elf born from death, and death is his curse. Kurako's mother had been assaulted by a human, and some time later gave birth to Kurako. She died during the child birth, using her last breath to curse him and his unknown human father as she gave birth. As soon as he came into the world, as soon as his mother breathed her last breath, the forest where his elven village was began to wither and die. As if nature itself had been cursed, Kurako's body was covered in dark lines. Like black veins on the outside of his flesh, wrapping and winding around every inch of him except for his face. The elves of the village pitied him. Poor pathetic cursed baby. An elven woman in particular grew fond of him, and once he began to love her as if she were his own mother, a wasting sickness came over her. The elves cast him out, immediately blaming him, and it was him but Kurako didn't understand that yet. He was still very young.

A human found him then, a man who was a master thief. This man taught Kurako all the ways of proper thieving, sleight-of-hand tricks, how to vanish in the shadows. Kurako learned quickly under the human's tutelage, and eventually surpassed him as a thief. As his feelings grew for his adopted father, the man began to develop the wasting sickness and eventually died. Sometime after he fell in love with a beautiful girl, and she too succumbed to that wasting sickness. It was then that Kurako fully realized it was his fault. He was the cause of the deaths of everything he loved. He keeps his skin covered, to hide those black markings over his body. He is quick and very good at stealing, and always looking for the next big mark. Lately he has taken to stealing items that could lead to his death were he caught, instead of just losing a hand. It's his own way of being self destructive.

~~*~~

Kurako did want to escape, but he couldn't escape from the thing he wanted to get away from the most. Himself. Everything he loved, animate and inanimate, sentient and non-sentient things alike would just wither and die. It was something he had realized years ago, and it drove him to keeping his distance from everyone and everything. Though lately he had become more careless as he went around thieving, as if he wanted to get caught, especially in the most dangerous situations. It was night time, and he was staring up at a very large palace. This was certainly going to be one of those very dangerous situations, perhaps he would get caught this time?

The half elf licked his lips and ran a hand over his clothing, tugging up the collar a bit of his rather fine looking clothes. To make sure the dark lines on his neck were covered, he studied the structure a while longer. Watchmen would be about, guards and knights. Maybe this would be fun too? Though at the same time, Kurako just wanted to run away. As his eyes swept over the building he noticed something, another gate, practically right in front of him where there had only been solid wall. A solid wall the thief had been intending to climb over. How curious. It certainly didn't belong.

Kurako pondered for a few moments, then shrugged and walked through it without a second thought. It could be a trap, perhaps the palace also had mages along the ranks of it's guards? Well, he certainly didn't expect to step beyond that gate into another place. His lavender colored eyes blinked, an illusion perhaps? There were guards surrounding him though, so it didn't seem like much of a trap. He turned, as if to make his way back through the gate, and stopped. The gate was gone. Perhaps this really was a trap of some kind.

The person who stepped through was a man. For a moment Solaris stood where he was unmoving. His eyes moved over the other, taking in the sight of the man who had appeared. There was deffinetly darkness within him, death and pain. He felt a slight cold chill move over his body. He ran a hand through his hair, before he moved to the long staircase that led to the main ground. His own clothing more of that a monk would wear, white robing, with a white scarf around his neck. His arms were bare, other than slender white fingerless gloves that went up to his elbows. The change in color came with the tan belt around his waist. He paused just before the ground, looking out at the man before him.

The other was carrying a bit of surprise, like so many he most likely had not expected this place to appear before him through an odd gate. He gently crossed his right arm over his heart, giving a light bow to the male in politeness as well as respect. "Welcome" his voice would hold a light accent, but as to where, it was unknown. It would be familiar to those who heard it, but for some reason unable to place exactly. His eyes moved to the male, and he would brush the hair out of the way that typically hung over his right eye. Unfortunately, it would return to its position soon after. He felt the amulet around his neck grow warm against his chest, and unknow to anyone but him, another star would appear within the stone hidden inside.

He finally decended the final steps, his knee high white boots meeting the soft and lush grass of the main land. His eyes moved to the gate behind the male, as the gates would close and fade away from the scene. "This is known as the Stellata Domus, or the Star Temple" he said, motioning to the series of white buildings that made up the compound of the temple. His eyes moved to the male's, holding them for a moment "you seek an escape from something...." A silence fell between them for a moment, "here you may find that escape...or what it truly is that you seek...the path is yours to choose." He gave a light smile then, and it would feel as if the world around him lightened a bit along with it.

Someone was approaching him, and his body tensed slightly, his gloved hands moved to readjust his hood and long hair. Making certain his ears were hidden from sight, it was really the only purpose of his hood and the reason he kept his hair a bit long. Humans in his world, with the exception of the man that took him in and maybe a few other humans, did not particularly like half elves. Elves in his world didn't really like them either but they would tolerate them far better than humans did, mostly out of pity. None would tolerate Kurako once they learned of the curse he carried though.

He watched the stranger approach him, and silently listened when the other spoke. When the male mentioned that Kurako was seeking an escape, he took a step back. The half-elf knew the other hadn't meant an escape from this place he suddenly found himself in. The silence that hung between them after that felt thick and heavy to Kurako. "A person cannot escape themselves." He stepped forward then. "I'm Kurako. Tell me more about this place." Lavender colored eyes danced around for a moment, looking here and there before returning to the other. It would be best for now to gather information about his current situation.

Solaris frowned slightly when the other took a step back. Had he offended him? When he spoke, Solaris gave a slight nod, but did not force more words between them. He learned of the other's name, watching as he looked over the temple and the land. He desired to know about this place? "Much of it can not be explained" he said, "but if you desire, I can tell you a bit." He looked to the place himself now, he had been told before it had a greek or roman kind of look to it. To him, it did hold a sense of older days, but still somehow remained new. "This place was built by the stars, out of the wishes and dreams within people's hearts" he said, "it holds a connection with every world, every being within existence....."

He looked over at him, "long ago, it was open to all, and many people passed through this place. A battle occurred however, which left the land scarred and the temple destroyed. To protect itself and others, the temple was sealed off from the worlds. It has awoken at times however, due to the calls of certain hearts.....you are the first in awhile." His eyes lingered on the man for a moment, before he gestured to the temple. "Come, we can speak more inside if you like...but you must be hungry or tired...A room is already waiting, and it would be little trouble here to obtain what you desire to eat" he did not give his own words a second thought, not even noting that saying things like a room was already waiting could unnerve people. Had he known the other was coming?

He had been sleeping till moments ago himself, though the other would not know that at the moment, so how could he have prepared a room. They were always prepared though, Solaris knew this, but it was harder to explain to others. He turned himself, making his way back to the stairs to acend into the temple. His mind for a moment on the other's words. 'A person can not escape themselves' if this was true, then if things went south, they could possibly end up like then... He pushed such thoughts from his mind, there would not be a repeat of history. Things would be different, this place had healed...A hand would slip up over his heart, he had healed....Slim fingers tightened against the front of his robe, but what if there was still a scar?

Kurako had nodded, to encourage the other to speak about this place. His lips were pressed together tightly in thought. The half-elf had never come across something like this before, a place connected to other worlds. It wasn't hard to believe in other worlds, there was all sorts of magic and sorcery, elven and non-elven kind that could take a person between realms, to other planes. Even to the planes of the gods. Was this then, one of the god planes? Kurako had never traveled to other worlds or planes, there had never been a desire to try it, there was no point and help from gods was often non existent. They were cruel and enjoyed watching plight as if it were a sport to entertain them.

He was surprised that a room was already prepared for him, lips parted slightly and he took another step back. This seemed like a trap to him. "You were expecting me." It wasn't a question, it was half an accusation and half a statement. "What do you mean by awoken? How exactly does a temple wake up?" The man was already walking away, Kurako grit his teeth, if he wanted more answers he most likely had to follow. Hesitantly the half elf moved, his footsteps light and quiet. As if he knew exactly how to step, how to position his weight to pad quietly. He did. It was the first thing he had learned about being a thief. "Am I prisoner here?" That was the real question though, wasn't it? The gate had vanished, stranding him here in this odd place.

At first he did not really register the words of the other. He was lost in his thoughts. It was not until the other spoke of how a temple can wake up, that his mind came back to the present. He looked over at him, seeing the uncertainty. "This place is connected to the hearts of people, it is how it came to be....if it is un needed, it may fall into a slumber or go dormant. When it is needed again, the land and the temple awakens" he gave a light chuckle, "perhaps you would be even more unsure to hear this place is alive?" It was half of a joke, but there was also truth to his words. When the other asked if he was a prisoner, Solaris stopped. He had reached the landing of the temple, and for a moment he was unsure of how to answer the other.

"You are only a prisoner as long as you believe you are. There is no turning back, no going back to where you stood before" he said, "but there is moving forward, when you find the answers you desire and truly accept....then your path will become clear." It sounded mysterious he knew, confusing and possibly like something a monk would say. Then again, Solaris could have been compared to a monk within this temple. He turned to look at the man once more, "you said you can not run from yourself....perhaps the only one truly keeping you prisoner, is you." He turned then, continuing on towards the doors of the temple. It was a beautiful day, and the sun above gave the white of the marble temple an almost heavenly glow. He smiled, it really was quite beautiful indeed. His mind thinking of what he had just said to the other. It was funny, perhaps he was his own prisoner as well? He brushed the thought away, before he stepped inside.

Kurako was frowning slightly, lifting a hand to rest it over his own heart for a few moments. "A person's heart?" The other had mentioned that before hadn't he? It was only now Kurako put any thought into that idea. "What a horrible thing for this place to be connected to. Hearts are fickle things, always wavering, always uncertain, always cowardly." What he really meant by that, was that his heart was a horrible thing for this place to be connected to. His heart full of guilt, grief, sorrow, loneliness, and all the negative feelings that came with knowing anything you did love would just crumble to ash in your fingertips.

Kurako stopped when the man before him stopped, and he had shrugged. "There isn't anything to go back too anyway, and as for moving forward, there's nothing to reach for either." At one time there had been hope, and it had driven him forward. That was gone, long gone, now he wanted to escape, any kind of escape from himself. It was why he had taken much more dangerous jobs as of late, high risk low reward jobs, and yet somehow he still managed to not get himself caught or killed. Death, as far as Kurako could see was his only escape, yet he was too much of a coward to raise a blade to his own flesh. Let someone else do it.

He had looked down, but his head snapped up when the other said that the only one keeping him prisoner was probably himself. Kurako didn't say anything, he just wanted to run, to escape this place now and this man that said such things to him. The half-elf simply followed the other into the temple, a part of his mind wondering if there were things to steal and what kind of punishment he might incur for thieving. Would they take a hand, or perhaps his life?

The world seemed to loose a tad bit of its' light, and Solaris looked at the man. His words, and the expressions and feelings swirling around him. He frowned slightly. "I am sorry, I did not mean to upset you or make you uncomfortable" part of him was feeling sadder and a bit weaker now. He did not understand for a moment why, since he had just woken up from a rest. He walks along, leading him along the beautiful halls of the temple. There was artwork upon the walls of various worlds and times, tapestries, artifacts and more. Everywhere one looked, there was something unique and new to see. It did not look cramped or out of place though, the things seemed to flow and work together, while the space remained open and large.

He led him across a small courtyard, where a garden and large pond were. They had to cross a small bridge, to get over to where the rooms were. There were various flowers and small critters running around. In the pond, fish swam around in a variety of colors. He opened the door for him, waiting till he stepped inside. The tower they were now in had a base floor resembling a living room. Chairs and a table there, situated around a fireplace. Bookcases were lined with books from all over, but it was not the only place where books could be found inside the overall temple.

Looking up, there had to be at least twelve floors, before an open ceiling could be seen overhead made of glass, letting light in.The rooms would be situated around the rim, a balcony allowing each level to look down into the first floor, or up to the ceiling. A large spiral staircase would lead up and around the tower itself to reach each room. It could certainly make someone feel small if they thought about it. He moved to the base of the steps, and smiled a bit. "This way" he began up the stairs, moving along without looking down until he paused before a door.

"It's fine. I'm always uncomfortable." He wouldn't elaborate on what he meant by that, just shrugged and waved away the other's apology. The apology wasn't needed. Lavender eyes traveled over the things they passed, and his fingers twitched. Itching to reach out and take something, anything. The things they passed were interesting to look at. Some of the images on some of the tapestry were of things he didn't understand, things extremely foreign to him, but that didn't make them any less alluring. It only made him want to take something all the more. For now though, Kurako kept his hands to himself.

He followed the other across a courtyard and a small bridge to a tower. Lavender eyes noticed books first, and he took a step towards them only to stop. Squishing that glimmer of hope that had sparked at the sight of books. There had been nothing to help him in any books he'd sought before, so why would there be anything in those to help him? Then the other was moving up the stairs and Kurako followed immediately, as if in a hurry to get away from all those books. "Mages usually live in towers." This could be a mage tower, but Kurako didn't seem to sure of that. He stopped when the other stopped. "That's not important though, I've been wondering. Are you a prisoner in this place, or are you the one that controls this place? It's hard to imagine I'm only here because I seek an escape from something, this whole thing stinks of a trap. If I walk in that room, are you going to lock me in? Chain me to a wall?"

Kurako sighed, and scratched the back of his head through his hood. "No, never mind that. What I really mean is. What are your intentions and what are you going to do with me and what do you expect from me?" It would be stupid not to be somewhat suspicious of this strange place, it would be stupid not to question it. Though if it were a trap, he was probably already deep into just by following this man into this tower.

He noticed the other's intrest in the books. He would show him the library later if he desired. As they approached the room, the other spoke up. Solaris paused, taking in the words. Was he a prisoner here? Or the one controlint it? He tried to think for a moment, and a slight pain surfaced within his head. His hand moved to it, as a slight dizziness moved over him. For the moment, he allowed the other to finish his question. He said nothing to answer the first to questions, but he answered the altered version of it. "I have no intentions with you" he says, "I am not here to cause you trouble or harm. With that being said, I expect nothing from you either. You are free to do as you will here, remain or leave it is up to you." He looked at him, "but you would be wise to heed my words from earlier. There is no going back, only forward." He did not expect his words to make sense still, even now.

"This place is the escape you desired from whatever it is that is troubling you. The only one who can find what you seek and answer your questions for you in the end is you...you are the only one keeping yourself prisoner." With that he left the man for now, turning from him to make his way back down the steps. His hand went to the amulet around his neck, fingers encasing it for a moment as his thoughts lingered on the words of the other for a moment. 'Are you a prisoner here, or the one controlling it?' He shook his head a bit, deciding it would be nice to make some tea. He made his way back out into the courtyard, pausing for a moment upon the bridge. His eyes moved out towards the water, where the fish moved about to and fro. Something felt a bit off, as if it was shifting. Perhaps the temple was still awakening, the land reacting to the man's heart who had entered here. He turned to look back, hoping the other would learn before it was to late.

The other reassured him that he wasn't here to cause harm or trouble to Kurako. The half-elf thief wasn't even sure he fully believed that, still, so far nothing bad had happened. Yet. Kurako had been watching the other carefully, and his questions seemed to have made the man before him uncomfortable. Still the man had answered them and then left him to stand there and stare after him. "You're wrong, a person can't escape himself." He called after the other, somewhat annoyed by the insistence that he was here to escape things.

With a shrug, Kurako entered the room the other had led him to, his gaze dancing over it as he entered. He assumed that his host meant the past wasn't important, only the future. At least that was what it seemed like the words 'there is no going back, only moving forward' meant to Kurako. Still the half-elf couldn't see much of a future for himself, and the past, well it was hard not to dwell on things like that. He stood there, in the middle of the room for a moment, before he removed his cloak and let it drop. He ran a gloved hand through his hair and tucked the strands behind his ears. More pointed than a humans, but less so than an elves. A clear indication of what he was, but he had a feeling his race didn't matter in this place.

Did that man expect him to stay in this room? Kurako turned on his heels to leave, leaving his cloak where it had fallen. He did reach up to adjust the collar of his tunic for a moment, making sure it kept the flesh of his neck tightly hidden. Well only up to where the black lines on his flesh started. It was still a mystery to him that those lines didn't adorn his face, but that was something he had stopped trying to figure out years ago. Kurako's intention in leaving was to go find that man again, though he had no idea what to do once he did find the other.

Solaris walked along the halls in silence, thoughts swirling around within his mind. Some were beginning to give him a headache, the dizziness from before surfacing again. A sigh came from him, as he wondered why he was being blocked from his own thoughts. He made his way along to the kitchen, which had a rustic feel to it, though at the same time it was full of what one might need. The place was always fully stocked, there was a greenhouse out back, and plenty of meat if desired as well. The land seemed to replinish fast, and grow that way as well. Plants flourished, what might take months to grow took days here. Another mystery indeed. He found a kettle, moving to the large sink to fill it with water. He listened to the rush of it as it filled the kettle, sitting it upon the burner to warm. As that was happening, he would prepare some fresh fruit, in case the other was hungry.

It occured to him however, that he had no idea of what the other preferred taste wise. He sighed, deciding to make a variety, the other had to in the end like something....right? A platter was soon being layered in a colorful and beautiful array of fruit: strawberries, melons, peaches, mango, plum, pear and more made a bright looking meal. He smiled, before he moved to clean the knife. He glanced up out the window, off into the sky and the distance. 'Are you a prisoner here?' his hand moved, and he immediately flinched. He had gotten distracted, a cut now running down the palm of his hand. Blood dripped into the sink and his eyes watched for a moment as it mixed with the water and ran down the drain. For a moment that was all he did, before shaking himself out of it. He turned off the water, grabbing a towel. The wound stung as he pressed the cloth against it to stop the bleeding. "Foolish....I should know better" he spoke to himself, "still a bit tired I suppose."

Kurako had no idea which way to go to find that man again either. He had only gone a little ways down those stairs before he stopped. No, it wouldn't be good to go and get himself lost. He started moving again, deciding he would at least look at the books that were down at the bottom of the stairs in that room. There was no harm in looking right? He doubted there was anything there that could help him, but he might find something interesting. He licked his lips to moisten them and ran a hand through his hair again.

He stepped into that room and began to browse, soon he was pulling books from their shelves, and a few minutes later he was sitting on the floor, instead of in a chair, with books all around him. A couple of stacks, and then a few books lay open to certain pages, and one book in his lap. Cross referencing, that's what he was doing, but Kurako didn't know that term. An intense look of concentration on his face as he skimmed over the words on one page of a book, then the one in his lap, and then another that lay open near him. The subject of his intense research, curses, hexes, any magic of that nature.

The books there would be more for leasure, though some of them would entail some of the subjects he was looking for. After bandaging his hand, Solaris made a tray, returning to the tower where the other was. He noticed him there with the books, a light smile tugging at his lips. "Seems I was right, you enjoy books hmm?" he sat the tray down, two cups ready to make tea. He had brought different kinds, and various little tea items that one might want, not knowing how he took his or even if he drank tea for that matter. He moved over by him, picking a book from the shelves. "If you are looking for something specific, you might not find it here" he looked at him, "for any in depth work, you would have to go to the library." He returned the book to the shelf, before he made his way to the table and to the tray.

"I was unsure if you might be hungry, so I prepared a light lunch of fruit...The kitchen is always open and stocked, if you desire something" he gave him a warm smile, not an ounce of ill intent in them. He wondered if the other would ask if he was poisoning him, though he had no intrest in such things. He gently picked up the tea pot, exposing the bandages on his hand. The heat and bending where he had cut himself stung for a moment, but the main pain had already faded. He poured water into the two cups, a light bit of steam rising from them. He chose a light green and mint tea for himself, glancing over at the other "what kind of tea do you prefer?" he asks. "If you do not like tea, I can go get something you would like better..." he waited for a reply, sitting the pot down upon the tray once more. His thoughts had calmed and subsided, on nothing specific at the moment.

The half elf had jolted slightly when the other entered and spoke. Normally he wouldn't have been caught off guard, but he had been concentrating so hard on what he was reading that he hadn't even noticed until the man spoke. These books were mostly useless, more stories than anything else. Still he had picked out quite a few that were heavy with stories about curses, even if they were fiction books there could be grains of truth in them. He set aside the book that was in his lap and stood.

"Nothing but stories, but that's fine. I didn't expect to find anything anyway. I never do." He eyed the fruit suspiciously for a moment, not because he thought he was going to be poisoned, mostly because he was wondering if that was a coincidence or did this man know far more about Kurako that he should. Fruit was Kurako's food of choice. The thought of being poisoned never occurred to him, because why bring him all the way to this place, wherever it was, just to poison him?

He moved to the table just as the other was pouring the tea. Kurako's eyes didn't miss the bandages, and his gloved hand started to reach out towards the other's hand. Kurako stopped himself, his own hand making a detour to grab a piece of fruit and bring it to his lips. "I'll drink the same as you're having." Kurako knew there were different types and flavors of tea, but he didn't know what they were called, only that he had tea on occasions with his adopted father. Mostly Kurako drank water, but it was fine to have another taste of something once in a while.

The half-elf nibbled on the fruit and sat down in a chair. Watching the other.

"The library here is not like others" he said, to the responce of the other, "there are various informations here that are unknown, or lost to the world." He did not move or seem to mind as the other moved to him and reached out towards him. He saw the hesitation, before he took a piece of fruit. He was glad that the other was alright with the fruit. When he mentioned what tea he wanted, he nodded. He fixed the two cups, the light smell of mint floating into the air. He enjoyed the smell of mint. His eyes for a moment went to the other, as he picked up the cup for him, holding it out to him. He had felt his eyes upon him, but his expression had remained for the most part calm and blank.

"If you like, I could show you after we are done?" he gave a warm smile. The library was one of his favorite places within the temple. It was certainly a sight indeed. He took his seat, adding a slight bit of sugar to his tea. Not a lot to mask the taste, but it was enough to give a light sweetness to the bitter liquid. He picked up a bit of apple, taking a bite. It was light and crisp, the taste nice within his mouth. He thought of speaking up once more, but the other seemed to dislike speaking with him for the moment. No, not quite dislike, more of he was wary. That was understandable, and he did not blame the other. He was in a new place, and he did not know anything about this place other than these words he spoke about. He would let the other explore, learn about this place and himself in the end.

Kurako seemed very interested for a moment when his host mentioned the library might have knowledge that was unknown or lost to the world. Quickly though Kurako stomped down on the hope that was trying to grow. If he didn't hope so much, if he lowered his expectations then he couldn't get disappointed when he found nothing. He inhaled deeply for a moment, taking in the scent of the tea as he finished his piece of fruit, when that cup was handed to him he took it gently with both hands. It certainly smelled good and a bit refreshing.

The other was offering to show him the library when they were done, and he nodded slightly before taking a sip of his tea. The flavor was odd but not bad, perhaps it could stand to be a bit sweet, but Kurako didn't mind the flavor at all. He only took a polite sip though, for now, and set the cup down. "You hurt your hand, preparing the fruit, didn't you? You shouldn't be so careless, I'm not worth that kind of trouble." He was running a hand through his hair, pushing the strands away from his ears, fairly convinced the man before him didn't care if he was a half-elf or not. It was just a feeling in his gut really, he had no evidence of such. For all he knew the man was only nice to him because he thought Kurako a full blooded elf. It wouldn't be the first time.

"I would like to learn my way around, so as not to get lost. Are there maps of this place I could look at?" He was reaching now for another piece of fruit, but it didn't seem like his eyes ever left the other's figure for more than a few seconds at a time. Kurako was wary, but that was only natural given the situation.

The other agreed to see the library, and a smile found its way to his lips. He was glad, but then the other spoke of his hand. A blush spread out over his cheeks, and he adverted his eyes in embarrassment. He placed his good hand over the wound, before speaking "no, it was no trouble at all...I enjoyed it, and if you do even a little it is worth it." He smiled a bit once more. He noted the ears of the other, so he was not human? Or at least not fully. He lifted his bandaged hand, before he undid the edge of the bandage. "It is fine..." the bandage slid from his hand, his glove lowered. The wound was barley a thin line on his hand now, almost fully healed. "See, almost good as new" he stood, his mind going to the maps the other was requesting. He nodded, moving to a desk in one of the corners. Opening a few drawers, he pulled out a few rolled up scrolls. He opened one, looking it over a bit.

"The place is quite larger than one might think...so it is best to have such maps on hand " he rolled it back up, before he moved to the other. Handing it over to him he paused for a moment. "If I may ask....what are you?" it was an abrupt question he knew, and one some feared to answer. It was possibly a delayed reaction to noticing the ears, but he found himself asking. "You do not have to worry" he added moments after, "it does not matter what you are in all honesty, you are welcome here...it is more of just curiosity." He returned to his seat, picking up a strawberry this time. He hoped the other was not offended by his words, and would honestly believe when he said it did not matter, that he was welcome here. It was better to get all questions out in the open and answered from the get go right? The other could have a chance to calm some of his nerves possibly, he did say he desired to talk more. It meant that he was curious right? So the best way to begin was to break the ice. Solaris hoped that he was not shattering it though.

Lyra

Lyra comes from a land of war, where Kings fight against Kings with beasts of hell and bring death and doom to their people. In a world of violence and suffering, Lyra is a gentle being, who carries the fate of her people on her shoulders. She's an oracle with the power of precognition. She cannot speak, instead communicating by touch. When Lyra touches a person she can put images, ideas and feelings into their minds to communicate. She can even send feelings and emotions to a person to help change their moods, though that one was something she taught herself to do. She also has the ability to do the opposite, and read someone else (by seeing clips of memories or feeling their personal feelings) by touch through psychometry.

While time passes slower in her world than most others, she looks to be in her late teens or early twenties. She stands at 5'6" with a slender, soft and feminine build. Her hair is a deep red and her eyes are golden. Lyra always has a far off look in her eye, appearing as one who has seen and been through far too much for such a young and fragile female with more on her shoulders than one should ever have to deal with. Yet, she remains caring and compassionate, while wary of all others.

~~~*~~~*~~~
She was running down a stone paved walkway. Tears spilled over her cheeks and her bare feet thudded against the ground. She tripped, inhaling sharply at the fear of falling, but managed to stay on her feet, and kept going. Deep red hair blew back from her face as she ran and her silken Greek styled dress clung to her figure, the excess also flowing out behind her as she ran.
Lyra didn't dare look back. The sky was dark grey with black ominous clouds as far as the eye could see. The world here was cast in shades of doom. The sun never seemed to rise or set in this land, the dark skies only lightening and darkening at regular intervals.
She'd run all the way to the end of the path leading away from her prison; the King and War Lord's main fortress, his temple of torture and death. She came to the end and kept running, not stopping until she was sure she was out of sight of the watch towers, ducking into a narrow rocky pass where she stopped to catch her breath.
Lyra flattened her back against the rocky wall, gulping in air desperately. She had fresh bruises around one ankle, caused by a shackle. There were days old bruises on the other ankle, and both wrists. Her feet were cut now and bleeding, but she didn't even notice. Tears still streamed steadily down her cheeks, and she heard the hair raising roar of the beast sent in her search.
Her breath caught in her throat as a strangled cry tried to leave it. She covered her own mouth and began backing farther away from where she'd entered. Lyra wished she could be anywhere but here. A light from behind her caused her to turn around to see a large gate. She was certain that hadn't been there before. With the sounds of the heavy feet of the beast growing closer, Lyra ran through the open gate without a second thought.
Once inside, she glanced over her shoulder to see that the world she'd known was gone. Was she dead? She looked around her in wonder, as the steady stream of tears had finally begun to slow. She'd known there was an escape from her fate. Lyra had had a vision of her escape. It had ended with her in that rocky pass. She'd not seen the gate in her vision, nor this place though. Was this a land where her sight could not see?
Kurako nodded a bit as the other showed him the healing cut. The half-elf had been concerned, but he had tried not to show it so easily, he hardly knew this person. Though soon a map was being handed to him, he hadn't truly expected one to be handed off to him. Then he truly wasn't a prisoner, at least not of this man. What kind of captor handed out a map so easily? Unless there was no escape from this place. No, it wasn't that simple. The things this man said, it made it not this simple. Kurako accepted the rolled up map and laid it across his lap, then he began to reach for his tea.
His hand stopped. "Nothing. I am nothing, but that's not the answer you want. My mother was an elf and my father a human." Having the blood of both races in his veins made him a part of neither world, unless his heritage was closely hidden. Other elves would have tolerated him for a time, but then his curse would complicate things. He picked up his tea cup and sipped at the liquid some more, it was a strange drink, it seemed to soothe his soul a little. He rather liked it. His eyes hadn't flickered or waver though, hiding whatever emotion he had felt or was feeling. There was just a wariness and a calmness in his gaze.
Though Kurako had only taken to pieces of fruit, the second one finding it's way to his lips now, there were far more pieces missing from that tray. Sleight of hand, a trick any thief worth his salt would be good at it, those other pieces of fruit had found their way into a pocket. He idly wondered if the other had noticed. That tongue flicked across his lips as he finished his second piece of fruit. "You have yet to tell me your name." The words were spoken in a matter-of-fact tone, but it was fine wit him if the other kept his name hidden. Some believed there was power in a name, a lot of elves seemed to believe in that sort of thing.
Solaris looked to the other nodding. He was not phased by the arising of what he was. It was fine with him, and it would not make him treat him any different. He had noted the fruit missing, finding it slightly amusing. He was curious as to why, but he allowed the other his own for now. When he mentioned his name, Solaris paused. He sighed, feeling foolish. "Forgive me...my mind seems to be a little scattered today" he looks at him, "my name is Solaris.." He gave a warm smile then paused. His expression went blank, and he seemed to focus at nothing for a moment. After a second he spoke however, "the gate has opened...." He stood, "excuse me for a moment.." He turned and walked out of the room. He could feel it, the instant the gate had opened once more.
There was another, another person here now. He made his way back down to where he had origionally met Kurako. The gate already fading, he noticed a female this time standing there within the grass. She looked hurt, Solaris moving forward to her. "Are you alright?" welcomes could wait for a moment, first he desired to get her safe and healed. He did not wish to scare her though, so he paused a few feet from her, hesitating for a moment. He slowly approached, moving to her side. He noticed the bruises, her injured feet as well. Where had this woman come from? He knew not all of the worlds were at peace or in good times. It was a bit harder to see such people though, because it made him feel more powerless. He could not help their words, he could not leave this place. 'Are you a prisoner here?' the other's words made a hand move to his head, why did he keep thinking of that? Now was not the time, he pushed it from his mind and focused on this woman.
This world was unlike the world where Lyra lived. There was color here. It seemed, peaceful. Something Lyra knew as a foreign concept, not something she'd ever known. Her tears had stopped completely as golden eyes jumped from place to place in wonder.
When they stopped on a man with crystal blue eyes approaching, Lyra stepped back, half turning as if ready to run again. He'd stopped though, and so did she. Surely a person in a place like this was not evil. An angel perhaps. This place was a heaven compared to her world of war and chaos.
She blinked at his question. Did she look like she might not be? For the first time since she'd escaped, she looked down at herself. Tears had wet and darkened the silk at the top of her dress, but she'd done well in keeping the fabric off the ground. She lifted it to inspect the bottom. No tears or dirt, but oh, her feet.
It wasn't until she saw them that they actually hurt. Funny how that worked. As far as the bruises, those were always there. They were nothing compared to some of the awful things the monsters of her world had done to her people.
She looked at the man again, though she didn't nod. She was okay, but her feet were cut pretty bad in some places. Lyra couldn't say that though. She merely held the dress up a few inches off of her feet and looked down at them once more, before looking at him again with an expression that might lead one to believe she was questioning if he could help, while also reluctant to trust him. He might also assume her too scared to speak, and that was fine for now.
