Ceri, from my experience I believe that most pixelists stick to around 6 colors per hue. :) Some may go up to 7 or 8, I believe, but no higher.

It looks like you've got the general guidelines down, so good job. <3

Jali, my thoughts on this are that sending a good variety of your work, as opposed to just dolls, would be an acceptable idea. :) Whatever you have that could show off a sufficient range of your pixeling skills would, I'm sure, be immensely appreciated.

Also the glitches have (as far as I seen) appear to be mostly female. And why?

There is like 15 different shades on the female doll, the male doll also exceeds the 8-9 shading limit but not as much as the female one.

reason why female avvies glitch the most is because majority of the first clothing on here was female ^^;

I don't think age should be a factor in ones quality of work.. as for experience.. I'm sorry..but you.. should be a bit more..umm.. modest or humble perhaps? even if you are older than basically the majority of the site, that doesn't mean you have to act in such a way. I find it odd that a man your age would even want to be on this site.. *wonders if you have children who are on here*

Because I don't know whether or not it was mentioned, it is reccomended that most items don't exceed 25 colors total. This would be for items that are more than one color. If you're working in shades of one color, the norm of shades for that color is around 6.

Taken from one of the many sprite tutorials in my bookmarks. (Sadly, I forget which. D: )

9. WHAT TO DO AND NOT TO DO
-Pillow Shading: Shading a sprite by going around the outline with increasingly lighter colors. This is unrealistic, and can ruin a decent sprite. Try a shading tutorial. Refer to the Tutorials Section.
-Gradient shading: Use of the gradient or "3d effect" tools to do a quick shade job. Better than pillow shading, but horrible and cheap.
-Overuse of Paint Circles. Circles made in MS Paint can look good if edited correctly, but don't use them for everything. Yoshi heads are a good example: Noses can look good when edited, but cheeks look horrible.

I'm glad I spent a month perfecting the items for my portfolio, so I could send it when the application started.

Because I could see a mad rush to get everything done, and making a lot of mistakes in the process.
