This is a little reminder about what we'd like you to do if you receive PMs from people who are trying to get you to sign up to their website.

This is against our rules as it's sneaky and underhand. You don't get to use Menewsha as a free billboard...it's also offensive to you guys to be targeted in that way.

I'm talking to you about this tonight because we've had to ban someone today, RoleplayGoddess, who was abusing our site by mass PMing a great deal of you guys, trying to get you to join their RP site. They completely ignored being told that what they were doing was against our rules too, and just carried on merrily spamming your inboxes ._.
They'd contacted over 300 people by the time we banned them, but only a tiny amount of you contacted us about them.

Now I know we don't have a report button for PMs, but you don't need to worry about that. If you receive a PM that is against the rules (not just advertising, but begging, scam attempts and harassment too) all you need to do is forward it to a Moderator or an Assistant Administrator and it will be dealt with :)

Thank you guys!

No need to forward this person's PM now, as they've already been banned.

Thanks for the info, Jelly! <3 I didn't get a message from them, but it's helpful to know how to handle it if I get a PM I need to report in the future.

Thanks so much, I got a message from them but I didn't realize they were mass PM-ing people. I guess it goes to show you should never give someone the benefit of the doubt when you first meet them and they do stuff like that. I'll be sure to report that in the future from now on, but it's nice to see such a quick response to this :) Kudos!

I also got this message and ignored it.
Was scared it was an attempt to hack my account.

Should I still send the message to a mod or AA?

I received a message, well now I know why it seemed fishy.
I don't like to receive pub from other sites, I'll forward the mail to a Moderator, as indicated.

Thank you for keeping this community clean!
*cheers*

If the person who sent it to you was banned, likely not, since it's been dealt with. If the person isn't banned, then probably you should :P Some people make multiple accounts for stuff like that, though likely they'd get caught with the same IP address.

You'd have to wait for a mod to reply to that for sure, but I think their main concern is when you join up to the site with the intent to advertise your own, or another site you join to. However, it still might be frowned upon to tell them about another roleplaying site, so like I said - you may want to wait for a mod to answer that one.

Edit: Personally, I think that people who join to mass advertise their own site, are just making less and less people want to go there D: I know for a fact I'd never want to just because of the principle involved.

This is akin to something that happened to me earlier today, but technically unrelated. >_> We seem to have gotten a wave of people acting like idiots. >___<

Thank you again to the staff for handling it quickly and succinctly.

I've had PMs from people doing that before.

Though I do have a question: If someone asks you (or tells you it's okay) to go ahead and send them a link in the forum, and you PM it to them, are you only going to look at the PM if they report it? Or are you going to look into the posts of both users?

Because it would be unfair if you only look at the PM and warn the user sending the link when the other user consented to receiving it.

No, it's only against the rules if people sign up solely with the intent of advertising to our userbase.

o wo
Was the person trying to get us to sign up with our menewsha username and passwords?
Hrm~
/edit Ohhh, I see now.. I thought they were a user that liked menewsha and was participating but then decided, hey, I'm going to advertise this site that I just made on this site because I know lots of people... or something like that. But. Joining for the sole purpose of advertising is .__. /

Thank you for this notice! Somme people may think it's trivial, but I think it's really awesome that you guys look into everything to keep us happy and interested in menewsha.

No Rainbows, they were just illegally soliciting people.
