Quote:
These books are about young girls going out into the world and having adventures!
That's exactly how I feel. Sabriel started out with action right away, in the middle of her actually doing something. This book is like you said, one thing happens, and then another, but none of it is very interesting. And then when one intersting thing does happen, it gets washed out with a bunch of non interesting things right after that. No building action is annoying as well. I'm at the very end now and still don't feel like it's building to anything at all. It's all about her and her waaah the world doesn't work like I want it to over and over and over again until you want to punch her out of her stupidity.

I wanted to shake Clariel and tell her "Have some patience! It's not that hard to wait a couple months before getting what you want! Not everything has to happen tomorrow!" Most teenagers aren't even that bad, geez. It was frustrating to see other people continually offer her these incredibly logical and worthwhile solutions, just for her to get upset that progress wasn't being made fast enough.

I get second-hand embarrassment pretty easily, and Clariel just kept laying it on.

Maybe it's her character I dislike? I mean I understand her dream but it doesn't seem like motive enough for all of the things she did... I can understand being impatient but she's like taking it to the extreme...

Just finished it. I still feel meh about the whole thing. Like why should I care about her? I'm not sure the book really gave me a reason...

I just started The Language Inside. It's very interesting because it's written in verse rather than paragraphs. A different experience but I'm surprised at how immersive it still is.

oh I've read that kind of writing a few times, in book form.
Ellen Hopkins YA books are written in free verse, and I liked the few that I read.

I'm surprised that I'm actually liking it to be honest.

Aww... It's easy for me because I read in the subway for like two hours a day. So the options are either be bored, or get into the book, LOL!

Sometimes I also read on my lunch break and/or in the evenings. But most of my reading is done in the train. I saw this quote once about how trains are possibly the biggest libraries in the world given the number of books that come and go on them.

Hopefully I'll actually finish a book. I'm doing one I've been working on for years.

It still feels a bit overwhelming.
But then it's still in the first week, so that's prolly why.
