Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world?
Is it somewhere new? Somewhere you've been?

Personally... I would love to go to Japan. I'm fascinated by their culture and the language. I've never been before and it's been a dream of mine since I was about 4, to go there.

I've always been interested by Southern France,
I use to watch a lot of House Hunters International
and it made me want to move to so many places.

Somewhere in Britain, Europe, or Canada. Never been to any of these places before and I'd love to see what it's like there, monetary issues not withstanding.

If I ever visit a country again, I want to avoid tourist spots... makes me feel like I never left the U.S. they're so geared towards tourists...

Apart from places I'd want to go to to visit extended family, I think I'd like to go back to Hong Kong, and Taiwan...I felt I didn't see enough of those places, was only in Hong Kong for two days! I'd like to go to Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and different countries in Europe too...

I sometimes wonder how I'd communicate in countries where I don't speak the native language. I remember coming across some awkward situations resulting from not being able to speak fluent Cantonese in Macau and Hong Kong...it probably didn't help that I look like I could be a local, and I was with people that could speak it.

Does this magic travelling also provide me with some money to properly experience the locale?

I think I'd pick England. Maybe not totally exotic compared to my USA home, but still a very different place. I think I'd mostly like to go around trying new foods, wandering around places and taking photos, and maybe hitting up a few second hand shops for some souvenirs.

I might like to see Japan someday, if I had someone there to help me through my trip since I speak no Japanese at all. Again, sightseeing, trying new foods, going neat places. I have no delusions that Japan is some magical anime land (in fact, I much prefer that it isn't ), but it's a very different culture that I'd love to observe for a time! But I don't think I could stay there as long as I would like to stay in England - mostly for the language barrier. Not being able to communicate with anyone or do something as simple as read signs would definitely be stressful for me!

I've always wanted to do a trip around Europe someday. Not to see any one country in particular, but to try out as many foods as possible and see the major historical sites in person.

But if I had to choose one place, assuming I could take someone else with me, I would choose Machu Picchu. My boyfriend has dreamed of visiting Machu Picchu for years and I want to make that happen for him. (Our first date was visiting the local museum when it had a Machu Picchu exhibit. )

If you come to northern Japan, I'd gladly be your guide. Also, most major signs are written with roman letters beneath the Japanese writing, so it's not too hard to navigate as long as you don't stray into the boonies.

I didn't say it, but yes, were I to travel to Japan I fully intend to handcuff you to me as my guide.

That's good to know, though! Most photos I see of Japanese cities don't have much/any English text in them, so imagining myself there gets a little overwhelming.

Ha ha, that's fine. Traffic signs, directories, etc. usually have some English or roman lettering on them so I don't think it's very hard to navigate around cities. But there's one area that's pretty much guaranteed to be confusing at first: train lines. Even if you can read hiragana, due to space restrictions most maps for train lines are written with kanji only.

Take a look at this beast:

I can't even read most of those.

You can switch ticket machines to speak English, but you probably can't read the charts showing how much it costs. In that case, just buy the cheapest ticket and adjust the fare when you arrive (or ask someone, since there are plenty of attendants at major train stations to help.

I would love to travel to either Italy, Republic of Ireland, or Scotland. I can't choose just one because I have my reasons for all three. Maybe I could just have an adventure all over Europe. Why limit myself? XD

I would be exactly where I am: at my grandfather's old house, right on the Atlantic coast. I wish it were snowing gently outside, but that'll probably happen right after I leave Sunday.

Alternately, I would be back in Tokyo at Inokashira Park, bundled up against the fall cold and watching the lovers by the lake.
