Moofin - Many English words are derived from Latin words and its pretty much the base language for others. I think German is the only excepting to that.
Its very good for SAT vocab XD

lol fiarra, I totally understand. XD It isn't as fun otherwise.

@Stormy: Aww.... well, you guys can and will do better next time! Just keep at it! :D

OoOoOoOo... I've never heard of the Ecce Latin text books though. My high school uses the Jenny's series. Though, in college, most schools use Wheelock... which is something you don't really need to know. Random FYI. ;D

@Cami: Well, it depends on what you intend to do. Latin's practical in the sense that a lot of English words are derived from it, while Japanese is direct application (e.g. if you go to Japan or meet a Japanese person). XD Either language is awesome though. <3

I think Japanese is more useful. XD" People still speak it. I'd still love to learn Latin though.

I can speak a bit of Chinese and some Japanese, but I can't read very well in those two. I can read German and French, but I'm very rusty with speaking those. English is undoubtedly my best language. XD"

Oh, all the Henry and Richard ones. LoL. I guess I was half right. :lol:

Japanese = :heart: I took 2 years of it in college, but lack of practice has made me forget most of it. Lame..

SEVEN

Name four novels written by Jane Austen that are not Pride and Prejudice.

XD As two people said, Learning Latin is fabulous for improving your vocabulary. As someone who works in books, as well as who writes fantasy (another think Latin is great for), a knowledge of Latin could be very useful.

While I enjoyed learning Japanese, I don't use it for anything and have forgotten most of what I learned.

OoOOo... Persuasion was an awesome book. <3 I tried to read Sense and Sensibility... didn't suit my taste. XD Then again, I tried to read that when I was in sixth grade? lol

Japanese can be hard sometimes... like on the midterm. We have to do a listening/speaking portion. Talking into a headset while everyone else is also is veeery hard to say the least. </3

On the other hand, I use Japanese a lot, and Latin is just something I enjoy that helps in learning many European languages. XDDD

Stormy // Oh, I'm sorry about your uncle. . __ .

Cami // Hmm.. I never really thought about Latin before, but your comments about it are interesting.

I'd like to know more words and wish I could remember their defintions.

... I took Spanish as a required Language elective in high school, but didn't have the passion for it so didn't practice it. >>

lol @ Moofin. Yeah that was my thought too. I took the PSAT and saw a word I didn't know what it mean but because I saw it in a sheet my teacher gave me I was like "HOLY SHITE I KNOW THIS!" I also love it when I read books and see words like arboretum and I know its trees.

@Lumi: Thanks :/ I actually winded up meeting family I've never meet before, but under the circumstances it wasn't like the best of meeting.

Fiarra: I was like "haha, lady susan isn't a book of hers! I got this!! XD" then I looked it up and was like, damn. XD I've never heard of it either.

I know probably about as much Spanish as I know Japanese. I took Spanish longer ago, but I have a better memory for it.

XD I've only published short stories so far, and nothing you would have heard of. I'm working on a couple of young adult fantasy novels, but I've pushed my writing to the side until I finish grad school. I barely have time to think right now, let alone write. <<,, I'll be out in a couple of months though.

EIGHT

How was Haruki Murakami inspired to write his first piece of fiction and what was the resulting story called?

Yeah, knowing the etymology of some words in Latin and Greek has saved me a lot. XD"

I don't mind oral or listening exams for Japanese. It's the writing ones that kill me. XDD"

Jane Austen is not my cup of tea. XD"

Haruki Murakami was inspired his first piece of fiction titled "Trilogy of the Rat" while watching a baseball game. XD

lol I was too hasty and got the answer wrong. XD Darn you Wikipedia and your bold titles. D: Oh well. x3

@Cami: That's great to hear that you've had some of your works published though! I don't know if I'd ever be able to do that.

@Luenola: lol Reading is really easy... writing isn't too bad... speaking definitely kills me. D: I was in the computer lab recording for my midterm and I kept losing track of my thoughts since we were supposed to go in a particular order.

Me on the mic: Eeto... eeto... *dies*

@Stormy;
Ohhhh. Yeah I kinda get what you mean.
Kinda like those roots/suffix/prefixes you learn in elementary school and go;
"I'm NEVER using THIS thing."
