As a guy who has read romance novels before, I just don't see the allure unless you're into men, as every romance novel I have read or skimmed is mostly from the woman's point of view and half of the book is spent oohing and aahing over men -- specifically their physical features.

I think it's actually pretty cool that guys read romance novels, but I can see why they wouldn't. As Harmony said, most of them are rather descriptive about the male's physique, so that might be a bit of a turn off. xD

Personally I like romance novels, but only if the plot is good, which is how a judge most books. I don't care if it's sci fi or horror, as long it's 'good' I'll read it.

Guys can read whatever they want. I think it's sweet if a guy reads romance novels. It shows how sensitive he is.

I think that guys who read romance novels are sweet. If I saw a straight guy reading a Harley Quinn novel, I would be on him like white on rice, ha ha.

I am strong agenst guys reading romance books but I do not read many my self though when I come to think of it ALL books have a little romance in them. I really do not care but I was a little freaed when I got to school one morning and found that 4 of my goth/emo friends who are boys have read twilight.

If a boy is interesting in reading a romance novel, he should ruddy well be allowed to read a romance novel and not be judged by it - the best of them aren't purely female escapism anyway ( though I guess the majority of people who read Mill's & Boons are female x3; ). I mean, a good proportion of the Gothic tradition established women writers and readers, but Frankenstein can probably interest anyone if they're curious enough. And Jane Eyre is a set text, but it's so much more than simply romantic. As is Pride and Prejudice. My Dad read many books in his youth containing romance. xO

And likewise, girls shouldn't be put-off reading books about, let's be general, engineering or cars (my littlest sister loves Top Gear, many of my female friends love it.) Or science fiction, if I'm correct in my thinking, has mainly been seen as the domain of geeky boys. D: I adooore some sci-fi. Artemis Fowl aligns itself as a boy's adventure story, but I've seen it lugged around by too many girlies to count!

And I agree with x___DESiiGNER__D R U G - if I saw a straight bloke reading Jane Eyre or Chocolat, it wouldn't be long before I'd be down on one knee with stars in my eyes...

• I think that guys that read in general are proboly very smart, which is good. But a guy that can read romances is fantastic, he can be sensitive and just plain fun to around. Guys that read comics are immature and guys that read historical stuff are just to full of information. So, in conclusion, I think theres nothingwrong with it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all, there are plenty of good romances out there with other elements that make a great story, such as drama, action or even historical or fantasy themes.

And its not all sex. I've read some romances myself, and I think some are very well written, just don't read a mill and boon book in public, because those book covers generally make you think of sex. And if you're reading for writing, I suggest you read other romances anyway, because they're usually written better. :D

I don't think it strange at all that you like to read romance novels. In fact I think its quite sweet actually.

Romance novels make up maybe half of the entire amount of published books I think. I'd have to look up the exact numbers, but thats what I remember reading.

I've been reading romance novels sine I was twelve or thirteen years old. In fact my father was the one to give me my first novel. His reasoning, "Anything to get you to read," and I've held that belief myself.

I know that reading romance novels has introduced a different vocabulary to me and helped me with my writing.

i think that people should not say that certain books are for a certain gender unless it specifically says it. Books are meant for everyone not just girls or guys. Even if it says that only one gender may read it, it depends on the intentions. If people want to read it, it should be read for enjoyment of the story of for more information.

it's also pretty cool that you enjoy romance. Romance is not only for girls especially since in one there usually is a girl part AND a guy's part in the story.

If I saw a guy looking in the romance novels sections I'd give him a thumbs up. It takes balls to deviate from the mainstream and to tread your own path and I admire that in men more then those that simply watch football to just "fit in". I can tell the difference between really enjoying a hobby and just taking part to fit in.

I think its stupid if anyone judges you for what you choose to read. I mean, I hate the weird looks I get when I read comic books. Some people believe that if we like something considered for the opposite gender, it makes us odd. Who cares what likes what?I thought people were smarter then that but apparently I was mistaken.

I don't think I really see any guys ever reading romance novels myself. They tend to be kind of like soft porn in novel form, which is why I understand the sex comment. XD Okay, some are more hardcore than soft!

But I don't think it's wrong to like the genre and feel weird just because the majority that likes it are women. I say be proud of what you like! And if you keep feeling weird, peel the binder of a mystery novel and stick it on the romance one you want to read. Lol.

Read what you want to read. Don't rely on someone else to tell you what you should like! So good for you. Romance can be fun for anyone. I tend not to read it, but if that's what you like, go for it.

Did you know guys are cheesier than girls? (gets pelted with rotten tomatoes). You get all squishy trying to touch them or hold hands but they slap you away and go "no PDA!" ahaha.

IMHO It's great you read because guys sure don't read much these days (ahem ahem hint hint) and ya know, it depends on people you hang out with. I got girl pals who hate love stories but I watch them.

Well I have personally maintained that every man who wants to understand women should read at least one issue of Cosmo and one romance novel. But ultimately you should read what ever makes you happy and don't mind what your friends say. They are just jealous because you are brave enough to do your own thing. I liked the Die Hard movies, no reason you shouldn't enjoy romance novels!

I've never really cared for them but I don't see anything at all wrong with a guy enjoying romance novels. I'm a girl and I prefer science fiction, fantasy, and action books which have often been more geared towards men. Though I have to admit they have gotten much more universal lately. Also, my sister reads alot of World War 2 novels, does that make her any less of a girl?
Also, I can see why you would be uncomfortable with everyone looking at you funny when you buy romance novels but really, if you accept that its a genre you like than who cares what everyone else thinks. You probably won't ever see those people you met in the bookstore again so you shouldn't worry so much.
