Little toes in the sand
wriggle, getting dirty.
Ants make trails in grass
as we pile our castles high.
Home to knights and princesses,
these towers boast the brightest
jewels and decorations:
leaves and shiny plastic trash bits.
Far from its home,
the sand is still happy,
clinging to little children that play,
wanting not to let go.
Then down the drain with a cheerful fair-well
as the little smiling faces leave
to come back another day.
