I see... you don't roam NaNo's forum at all...
I find those very interesting and helpful.
They have various guides.

Honestly didn't even know they had forums. And I just found the word sprints with challenge prompts. I love that. I'll probably use that if I get stuck or if I want to write something different.

Yeah, I'm weird about things like that. I'm either all for or not at all when it comes to them. Like Youtube comments. I really try my best to stay out of them.

I never did the nano word sprints in past years, but I did just learn about the word crawls. I think they may be useful when writers block hits.

My plan is to dedicate my lunch hours to writing. 60 minutes of uninterrupted time is hard to come by for me so I'm hoping it should at least make a dent in the word count.

If anyone wants to be writing buddies feel free to add me: http://nanowrimo.org/participants/fishyfey

Hi everyone! I'm glad I found the NaNo forum. How are you all doing?

I came very close to not doing NaNo this year. Very close. I've been really busy with school, but here I am putting together playlists and a ramshackle outline. It doesn't feel right not to try. Once I get my outline done I may try to get a head start, just because things have been pretty hectic. I'm excited, though.

Anybody here gonna try and stay up until midnight to start writing on November 1st?

I don't know how close to midnight I'm gonna get. I used to stay up clear until two in the morning with no problem, but I have early morning classes this semester (and on Halloween itself, bluh :( ) so I had to get myself turned around. I'm gonna try my best to stay up that night, though, if for no other reason than to get in the spirit.

I like to make playlists of songs relating to the story I'm writing and then hit shuffle and go. That's helped me come up with more plot points than it probably should have. ^^;

Princess wants to be a witch. Bittybytes can't make a decision. I'm pulling out all the costume stuff we have tonight and putting it into a bin in the middle of the living room for them to make costumes tomorrow.

I don't know the rules on when you start counting your writing. Is it anything on and after the first? Does anything you write leading up count if it's for the same piece?
I started writing on the 16th, and I've got a good bit written already.

Thats correct Longcat. Anything before November 1st doesn't count and the idea is that you add 50k words to your existing novel (or start a new one) during November.

Some people like to work on the same project the whole month, some people have a few projects, others count anything they've written towards their word-count goal. I know a bunch of participants start writing early to meet their goals during the month. There aren't very many hard rules to NaNo other than "don't steal someone else's work". Apart from that you can basically do whatever you want.

EDIT: Fishy is right in that's what you traditionally do, but I've seen a bunch of people either do something completely different during NaNo (like editing, which I did one year) and I've seen people start writing early to help them deal with time constraints they knew might keep them from getting to their goals in a month.

I'm just about 20k right now. OK so I'll only count it if I really need to. XD
The whole only count what's written during the time frame is what stressed me out last time. I had a couple of days where I didn't write anything and I started falling behind on the neat little graph chart and just gave up.

Do whatever you need to in order to have fun with it, Longcat! NaNo's no fun when you're stressed out like that. If I finish my outline early I'm gonna try to get ahead too. I've been really busy so I'm not sure how far towards 50k I'm gonna get, but the whole point of NaNo is just to write more than what you have right now. It doesn't really matter whether or not you "win".

I usually give up either from stress of the deadline. Or because I lose interest in what I'm writing. or because ADD and my brain has jumped ship and found something new and shiny.

I totally understand. I have yet to win nano cus I start to freak out when I fall behind. This year my goal is to just make 25k words, and if I can get more done great. Do what is fun for you. 20k is a great amount already!

Rette: Twenty Sixteen is a way of saying 2016 which rhymes with Halloween. I thought I was being nifty..
CDFND: I won't be writing at midnight because I'll be at a halloween party. If I write that early I won't be writing sober and that would be kind of bad.

I'm lucky I'm only working part time this year, I don't know how anybody with a "real" job does NaNo
