It depends on which island. There are multiple islands that do multiple things.

I mean, I read you can click on the beanstalk once a day, but it lets me do it infinitely. Am I mistaking what I can do once a day?

So the beanstalk island, you can click the stalk a couple times until it stops dropping beans then you can go back in a few hours and there might be more. You can put beans in the bin which I guess is suppose to attract better wild pokemon? Sometimes a pokemon will come visit you and it has a chance of wanting to stay in which case you can add it to your party. The pokemon on the island are otherwise random pokemon from your party. Other than clicking the beanstalk there isn't really much to do on that island.

I only get Carbinks joining me at the beanstalk.

I got a couple pokemon that way but now they don't seem to want to stick around...

Interesting. Are there any pokemon you can only get this way?

Not that I know of but I'm not an expert on this new game yet. XP

don't know. but there are pokemon you can only get through QR codes. like my precious Venopede. <3 but I have many now and like to trade them for things.

I just got my ditto and bred a few Litten. Going to see if I can get the other starters. Which started did you choose Long?

So far I just finished the second island with the exception of the hakuna challenge.
Having specific pokemon for specific skills like strength, fly, etc is weird.

I actually like it. It's much easier than the HMs because you don't need to always worry about having a pokemon with that specific move in your party.

I think I chose the owl. I threw it into the box after the first island and haven't pulled it back out. If I could have chosen Grubbin as my starter I would have. I never really care for the starters. I have them all from wonder trades though.

I was do gung ho about getting a pyukumuku and wow it's a useless pokemon on it's own. It doesn't learn any actual attacks. O. o

Well I have a friend in Colorado I was able to trade with so it's definitely doable, but it's a pain in the butt the first time around.
