Well, the things I can think of is that they think that it will give you a bad first image with people, you might get hurt because of it, and it is highly visible opposed to tattoos.

and I go to college next summer, but I turn 18 on the 19th, so I'm just gonna do it, just like when I got my wrists pierced.
my mom didn't like it, but she didn't make me take it out.
same thing with my ears.
it could be worse, I could be out snorting coke and getting drunk and other things that destroy ones career.
if I go in for a college/job interview I'll just take the piercings out.
