(The Following story is inspired by How to Train Your Dragon, and Dragons: Riders of Berk, So most of the characters will be referenced by using those from the movie and show. The character idea and plot is mine though, but since it is inspired by this and I'm using their characters as references, I post it here. Please READ ONLY. DO NOT POST COMMENTS HERE, you can post them on my pro or in the comment thread!)

Prologue:

Long ago, there was a viking kingdom by the name of Sair. The kingdom sat in the middle of a vast island, surrounded by forests that led to high cliffs or sandy beaches, depending on which side you went to. In many of the cliffs, especially the northern ones, there were dragons who inhabited them, coming from an island that was out in the ocean infested with them, or their nest. No one had ever found it before, it was rumored to be hidden in a dense fog, and any who got close to it were never seen again. Sair was a proud kingdom, full of many brave and powerful warriors, and the strongest was their king Aldin. Growing up, he always made his father proud and excelled at what he did, especially in fighting. When his father passed, Aldin became king. He married the fairest maiden in the kingdom by the name of Arianna. Together for years, they ruled the kingdom in peace, until one day the queen gave birth to a son, the heir of Sair. Following the pattern of names, the father and mother decided on the name of Aaron to give to their son. The people loved their new prince, and expected him to grow up and take on the traits and strengths of his father...

This was not the case however. From a young age, Aaron showed signs that he took more after his mother then his father. He showed little interest in fighting or weapons, more interested in books and exploring, very curious about the world around him. The father assured the people it was merely a faze, and his son would soon snap out of it and take on his duties as a prince and heir to Sair. One night, when Aaron was five, his mother took him out under the light of the full moon down to the beach to gather shells for her and her husbands anniversary. She told him about a meeting they had had down there, and how he had given her a shell as a present, which she had hung around her neck and kept with her. She wanted to remind him of their meeting, since he had been so busy and overloaded with work lately. They found many beautiful shells, and soon began their way back toward the kingdom. When they were deep in the forest however, a dark shadowy mist began to float around them, and a dark chill set in.

It is not fully known what happened next within the village, for the only people who were there were Aaron and his mother. The father noticed they hadn't come back yet, and went looking for them. They herd roars in the forest, and hurried to the source. When they approached, the dawn was coming, and a huge black dragon with wings that gave off a black mist took off into the sky, and disappeared into the last remnants of the night. It was then that they discovered the damage that had already been done. They were to late...the queen had sacrificed herself to protect their son, who's foot had been wounded to badly to be saved. Aldin was devastated, and from that day he was never the same. He raised Aaron on his own, and began to become increasingly protective of his son. He had someone stay with him practically at all times, and he was forbidden to leave the kingdom or village grounds without guards or an escort. He became strict with his son, promising himself that he would never lose him, as he had almost done before, and had lost his wife.

From then on out, he developed a hatred for dragons, passing a law that they were to be killed on site, no exceptions. Any time there was a dragon attack or seen, Aaron was kept in the castle. He still never took to his father's ways, and being overprotected, he remained more of his mother's son then ever. When Aaron turned fifteen, there was a dragon raid late at night, they had come for food, since it was the fishing season. Aaron watched from his room in a tower as fire spread, and dragons were shot out of the sky and many killed. As he watched, he noticed a black form moving across the sky, it wasn't noticed by the fighters below, blending in with the night. A dragon hit one of the catapults with fire, setting the rock within on fire and causing the catapult to release. It hit one of the buildings, breaking apart, and sharpened shards flew into the sky. He herd a roar, and watched the dark form fall out of the sky through the forest. His heart was racing as he did, no one had noticed it but him.

He slipped out of the castle, and into the forest. Slowly he came upon the destruction the dragon had caused as it fell through the sky. He moved to its side, and for a moment thought about killing it, to prove to his father he could handle himself, and wasn't the helpless child he thought he was. As another flame cut through the night sky however, he found the dragon was already bleeding badly from a wound on its' side under its' wing. It's tail had been slightly torn as well, and it did not look good. He couldn't kill it, and felt more sorry and obligated to help it then anything. He slowly gathered some herbs his mother had taught him about on one of their many walks, and did his best to try and help the dragon, patching it up the best he could. He stayed with it for the night, falling asleep. He awoke in the morning with the dragon standing over him. At first he was afraid, but the dragon made no move to harm him, dropping a fish at his feet.

After that, Aaron began speaking out of the kingdom on his own to take care of the dragon as it healed, keeping its' wounds cleaned, and nursing it back to health. Over time, they began to become good friends, trusting each other and learning to work as a team. Eventually, he slowly learned to gain enough trust for the dragon to allow him to ride on his back as he made trips out into the ocean or to stretch its' wings. With the events that had happened, Aaron soon gave the dragon the name Nightwing. He was happy to be with the dragon, and be able to learn so much about them, but he knew that he had to face the fact that no one could ever find out about the dragon, especially not his father. Aaron reached his sixteenth birthday, and that is where this story begins. Sair is in a time of prosperity, and its' people are happy and well taken care of, but nothing lasts forever...
