I really bad at anatomy. I think the head is the hardest especially the eyes. Mines are always wonkey and the hands and feet and maybe the whole body too if i think about it. :D

I like stare at mine while drawing them so they can at least kind of work. ;3;

Hands are tough. Every time I try to draw them without refs, I have to go back several times because I make the fingers too wide for the wrist to look right. I also have trouble getting the positioning of features right. Eyes, nose, mouth, and ears are correct in relation to each other, but not to the hairline or chin. Tis annoying.
But I'm okay on the positioning and proportions if I have references... which means I refer to my Gray's Anatomy, my bio book, or force a friend to pose for me. I've always been too afraid to try searching for good nude anatomy reference sites on line because of what might show up. :P

The smartest thing I ever did was walk up to my friends' artist dad, blushing like a beet, and ask if I could borrow his figure drawing books.

I learned from doing, from watching and copying what was in those books, even though I couldn't resist the impulse to cover the page I was working on...and I discovered very much about what the human body can do. Now, I don't begin to presume to know everything, but I did learn a lot.

I highly suggest that if you have trouble with a certain piece of anatomy, you look for references and copy them until you get them 'right.' If you don't mind running into the occasional pornographic theme, you can brave google without the safesearch.
Otherwise, I suggest that you use an art community, like deviantart, and search for 'blahblahbalh(body part) stock.' You'll wind up with some neat things, though you may have to sift through a few pages of crap before you find it.

If you've the money (which I certainly do not!) go to a bookstore or website and look into getting anatomy books. Not the scientific ones (though those might help) but the artistic ones. By all means, step out the bounds and go for the forshortening books, which are invaluable. (and, the plus of using a book, you can use post in notes for fig leafs and eradicate much of the embarassment factor)

Hands and feet annoy me. But lengths of arms and legs can also be very annoying too. :o

I always have problems with anatomy. Some of the so called "amazing artists" still have problems with anatomy.

I am obsessive about anatomy and proportion and that stuff, so I can notice it like... immediately. So I don't have much trouble in the critique area. ^^;

I prefer drawing from life.
Remember ratios. The golden rectangle: Head to toe is 1. Head to fingertips is 1'. Head to toe / Head to fingertips = 1.618.
The fingertips are always mid thigh.

The eyes are 1.618 units up the face. The knees are 1.618 units down the entire leg.


Then again... I am a math freak. Not any good at it, but it's still appealing, because it has much of the underlying theories of the universe in it... or something like that.


It is also beneficial to learn from other artists. Judge what they've done right and wrong. See what you like. Adapt their style to yours. For, isn't that what artists hundreds of years before us have been doing?

Ah yes, that tutorial is hawt. It helps me remember the shape of the male figure. Yeah, I know the basic shape of the human, and the female figure, but the male figure is kinda hard. It's hard for many artists. It is interesting how some artists can draw either only women, or either only males.

... I am trying to get myself interested in drawing males, for I have many male characters and only a few female characters. *sigh*


Spiffy, that is.
I look at Chibi-shini's stuff for example, for male anatomy stuffs. I'm looking for more artists who draw just plain... men (Or bishies). Hard to find.

The first ever time i started to do anatomy was when i got how to draw manga books.

and yea to this day i still have troubles anatomy is one of them things that is very hard to do.
