During their youth, all spoke of how their love would keep them together for the rest of their lives. As such naive and innocent lovers, they always thought it true. They wanted nothing more than to spend forever with one another. To be with the other was to be alive. It was to live, love, and be happy.

Too bad life had another outlook on their future....

At the age of seventeen, Oliver Barton vanished from her life with little warning. When she awoke in her stone cold bed, she found something taped to her palm. There, in his writing, was a note that read "This is goodbye." There was nothing else written in ink so his vanishing was truly a mystery for her. She asked around and after months of searching, no one knew what happened to him, not even her father who had the authority to request details on any man or woman. Why? For he is the Commander and Chief of the United States Galactic Armed Forces (USGAF).

Receiving no closure, she went on with her life as expected. She graduated her schooling and moved onto the next level of education. From there, she took a job in the Med Bay, more specifically the Quarantine Zone.

Many years ago, all the countries of Earth were forced to evacuate due to a disease that ran rampant over the planet. The disease actually parasite, would consume anything with flesh and blood, whether that be humans or animals, it did not matter. Unable to combat the parasite for it spread at an exponential rate, the people of Earth were forced to flee to space. Large space stations were already in place but they were rapidly built up to accommodate more than the usual fleet of galactic soldiers.

A few attempts were made to return to Earth, but most were futile. There was no cure. There was no antidote. They would need to linger in space a while longer and pray that science and technology would make a breakthrough. Still, they needed to keep sending test dummies down to test new variations of their "cure." Not to mention, once in a blue moon, they're receive a beckon that someone's still stranded on Earth (moving to space wasn't mandatory).

However, the longer man stayed in space, the testier man gets. With each year trapped in a metal floating citadel, tensions grow tighter. Some countries enforced a population limit whereas others allowed their citizens to bred and multiply as they see fit. Of course, doing this comes at a heavy cost.... space.

Current relations between the US and China are not great. China is demanding that the US dome send supplies and accommodate more of their people. The US, usually open for immigration, has since closed its doors to prevent overpopulation. Such actions have irked the Chinese, who now threaten war if something is done.

With time now being the unpredictable hand in the race to save mankind, another bout of drama rolls into the story. Once day, while on a routine inspection of those who visited Earth, a semi-familiar face wanders back into her life....

Oliver "Ollie" James Barton
Senior Spec Ops Agent
Twenty-eight years of age
Military-cut raven hair with spiked up bangs
Dark olive-green eyes with gold flecks in them
Stands 6-foot, 2-inches tall

DISTINGUISHING MARKS
  • Extremely broad shoulders despite having an average build
  • Scar over left eyebrow that runs down across eye (causes some discoloration in his left eye; looks duller than the right)
  • Small scar on the left of his lips that's about the length of the width of his lips; hardly noticeable unless up-close
  • Notch missing out of his left ear and two 2-inch long, 1/4-inch wide scratches that start above his ear and run toward his jaw
  • Missing two fingers on his left hand (pinky and ring fingers)

UNIQUE TRAITS
  • Always has a condescending voice -- not because he is, it's just his voice; it's very gruff and conceited sounding
  • Wears a tattered bracelet on his left wrist (a gift she gave to him long ago)
  • Only wears dark colored clothing consisting of black or gray; sometimes dark fed or green
  • Always seen wearing a custom-made glove on his left hand; the thumb and pinky and ring" fingers are exposed while the middle and index are covered in black fabric. There's a reflective plate across the top of the hand that reads his military number: OJB007073
  • Tends to touch his left ear when nervous or worried

GENERAL DEMEANOR
  • Keeps to self a lot and tries to avoid developing relationships, except with other high-ranking officers
  • Very sympathetic; a lot of soldiers open up to him as he's known to give great advice (and keep secrets)
  • Humble; if given bread, he's the type of man to share it but he'll do so without being giddy
  • Yet hardened; as duly noted by the number of scars and tears on his body, he's seen some action. It really takes a lot to rile him up or get under his skin
  • When drunk, very cheeky and likeable

- When she's not working, she tends to be an introvert and hole up in her living quarters or be beside her father.
- Limps with her right leg after an accident many years ago.

- Always wears a small, tarnished pin on her left breast of any shirt she wears (because he gave her it) and never takes it off.
GENERAL DEMEANOR

Entering quarantine. Do not move.
Calculating.... calculating.... level of contamination, zero.
Please exit proceed to the medbay for final inspection.

A sigh whistled between his teeth. He had gotten lucky this time. There was no need to get rushed to the medbay. There were no blaring alarms. There wasn't talk about euthanizing him. It was all just clean and clear protocol, like it should be.

Subconsciously, his right arm reached for his left hand. It fingered the empty space where his pinky and index fingers should be. To think, the last time he went to Earth, he almost didn't make it back. And now, here he was, fine as could be.

A smile crossed his face as his body moved toward the next station. It wasn't a long walk but it sure was lonely. Solitary confinement was a requirement for returning to the mother ship. Each returnee was forced to walk a long, white corridor, stopping at each station until cleared. Some men never made it past the first door. Others, they never made it back at all.

Hanging his head, the guilt of losing a member, Agent Siy, was gripping at his heart again. He should have tried harder. He should have seen the ambush coming. He should have... ugh! It should have been him.

Coming to a jarring stop, he jerked his head away and glared at the ground. His hands balled into fists and his blood pressure spiked. This really was his fault. He should have done something.

Please proceed to the medbay.

His olive orbs flickered to the voice that spoke from above. "I know," he chided before swiftly making his way toward the end.

Now before two, large, white doors with a glass interface, he punched in his code--OJB007073. His name popped up and his entrance was announced.

Senior Special Operations Agent, Oliver James Barton, entering facility.

With an eye roll, he sauntered over to the nearest open seat. When the med staff were ready, some nurse would call him back and the doctor on duty would check him over.

When he arrived at the medbay it was 2:14AM. By the time he was called into the back, it was 4:37AM. With a grunt, he lazily followed the nurse and easily passed the usual vital sign tests.

"The doctor will be in soon," she chirped before yanking the curtain closed. Seizing the moment, Oliver, or Ollie as he liked to call himself, rolled out onto his back and laid on the stiff, white cot. Staring up the at the ceiling, he felt the sand in his eyes and, before he knew it, he was napping. If and when someone came, he would lightly open his eyes to the sounds of a curtain opening.
