Ishiah could see Robin from the kitchen, and got up with a sigh. Really, the puck was old enough he should be able to deal with anyone at the door. He went over and gently nudged Robin aside.

"Can I help you?" he asked the girls. Somehow, one of them looked a bit familiar in a way he couldn't quite place, but he ignored it for now.

"Yeah, I have something of yours, from my mother." Reaching into her bag, Maggie carefully extracted a necklace. Three soft under feathers had been woven into the leather, white with gold flecks. Ishiah's feathers. "She told me to return it to you after she passed."

Ishiah took the necklace gently, running his fingers over the feathers. They were definitely his, and he definitely remembered one person in particular taking those feathers.

"Where did you really get these?" he asked, looking at her carefully. Because he did not believe what she was saying.

"My mother Rose," Maggie repeated, somewhat patiently. "She had them since before I was born. She used to tell me stories about you, you know."

Ishiah studied her, trying to gauge her honesty. The words coming out of her mouth were right: he remembered Rose, and he remembered giving Rose the feathers. But he definitely didn't remember hearing anything about Rose having a daughter.

"Why do you have those?" he asked, handing the necklace back to her.

Dani just stood back and watched, waiting for the truth to hit. And, possibly, stealing glances at the puck. He was rather easy on the eyes.

"Proof. A reminder. Hell, I don't know," Maggie said with a little shrug. "Mum didn't actually tell me what to do, she just made me promise to give them back. Or at least try to. She said you'd be stubborn about it, and I can see she was right about that."

Ishiah just went quiet, studying her some more. There was really no reason he could think of as to why she would have his feathers. If Rose had found someone else (which he assumed was the case), Ishiah should have no connection to the woman at the door right now.

Dani sighed. They weren't getting anywhere.

"Maggie, it's late," she said, touching her friend's arm. "Come on. Let's go find a motel or something for the night." Try again tomorrow hung in the air, unspoken but still conveyed.

Maggie sighed. "Fine," she agreed. "Don't try and go anywhere, it was hard enough tracking you down the first time," she told Ishiah before holding out a card to him with her contact information on it.

Robin stood back a bit, just letting the two figure things out for now. Once the girls were gone, he was sure he and Ish would talk.

Ishiah just took the card. Whatever this girl thought was connecting them, she was mistaken. But her friend was right, it was late. It would be best to hash things out later.

Dani tugged on Maggie's sleeve.

"Let's go," she said.

Maggie turned and left, the only outward sign of her frustration a few feathers appearing around her head. One fluttered to the floor in front of Ish and Robin.

Robin bent and picked up the feather, examining it. It looked like one of Ish's feathers, but it hadn't been there before.

Ish glanced over at him.

"Where did you find that?" he asked, seeing the feather.

"On the floor." Robin shrugged. "In the hallway. Why?" He blinked. "Isn't it one of yours?"

"It is not," Ishiah said, taking the feather and examining it. "The banding is wrong. Curious." And mildly alarming, but he wasn't going to admit to that yet.

Robin looked at him before shutting the door.

"Alright, so you looked like you knew the woman, at least. The name Rose. Who was she?"

"She is someone I once knew," Ishiah said after a few moments of silence. He didn't immediately offer any more information.

"Ish." Robin gave him a bit of a look. "Come on, spill, out with it. Tell me the whole story, so I know what we're dealing with here."

"I'm not even sure what's going on," Ish pointed out to Robin. "I never expected to hear from Rose again."

"Well who was she?" Robin was tempted to start poking Ish, but he managed not to. "Was she human?"

"She was," Ish confirmed reluctantly. This wasn't something he'd ever really planned to tell Robin, even though he was relatively certain the puck wouldn't necessarily care.

Robin grinned slowly. "Ishiah, did you dally with a human woman?" he asked. "Got distracted by the daughters of men, did you?" He was teasing, and he didn't care. It had been before, after all.

Robin paused at that, looking at him more closely.

"You got attached." Of course he would. Ish never did things lightly, or by halves.

"I did," Ish agreed. There was no point in denying it. "It was brief. Only a few days. Perhaps a week. Then it was over."

Robin nodded. That also made sense.

"Alright, with you so far. How do we get from there to her?" He pointed at the door.

"I don't know," Ish replied. "I honestly don't. I never heard from Rose again after those few days."
