What I'll do is start the trade now because it's time to get my son in the tub. Can you ping me when you're ready to complete the trade?

I stopped being active here, looks like from my posting stats, through 2010 then I posted maybe once in 2011? Looks like in 2010, I mostly posted during events. So, we may have missed each other! I just came back a few weeks ago.

I was trying to figure out what to do with myself because I have college degrees and they are in fields that were hit pretty hard by the recession. Mostly publicly funded jobs. I wound up going back to grad school to finish a certification in my field then found out I needed to add another grad degree. THEN my daughter's disability became more of an issue and I am working at home when I can and not in anything related to my degrees. Such is life. I came back here because I remembered how great the people are - and I'm glad we met!

Oh god don't I know the crazy stuff going on with the recession. i got pregnant just before finishing up my first degree. I have two daughters now, and living off gov't funded things like SNAP benefits, and WIC. It sucks.. :/

My husband lost his job, and I can't find one. Especially when i've got two kids and no one wants to hire me. And meanwhile a bunch of my family gives me crap... Ugh.

nice to meet you though :D

We're similarly afflicted by the recession, it would seem. Museums and archaeology labs were laying off right after I started my first grad program, then archives and libraries started doing the same when I started the 2nd one. I had one child, then another very unexpectedly when I was 43(!). Had to use WIC and we have social security from disability income. Completely weird and unexpected.

Husband is working, but looking for something else. The job I do at home involves calling people and transferring calls to them. It's a job that requires pretty close to absolute silence in the work environment, so if I have my son home, it's impossible.

How old are your daughters?

Is art something you love? I have a friend who loves art and went on to pursue art history so she could work in museums. She has done that along with teaching as an adjunct at our local uni, so it's possible to find a way to work with an education in art.

Your girls are little! I bet they are adorable!

That's a fun age - but you're right to be amazed if they're listening to you! I think that's an age when they start trying to figure things out for themselves and think they are wise enough to know better.

I've often contemplated having some of my son's friends over - he's 5yo - but they are hellions when we're all together for other activities. I cannot imagine some of them in our house.

I figured as much! Some of his friends have zero concept of how to treat someone else's toys. Saw it happen when my son brought a DS and the friend was trying to bend the device back. Almost broke the hinges. His dad did nothing to intervene in spite of me and my son telling the other kid to stop. So I took the device and popped it back into my purse. Ridiculous. I'm glad to hear there are little kids out there who know how to behave, but some sure don't and their parents are just as bad. Not all of them, but some.

You have no idea. It took me a while to save for that device for him, so I was more than a little irritated. Devices stay home now and he is able to run amok without me worrying about something breaking!
