[ѕỵȵтɧєтic ɧєäʀтѕ ooc thread]

I n t r o d u c t i o n

By the year 2029, most households had at least one of the newest luxury conveniences, a domestic android. Androids had already been in place for years in labor and military capacities- but for the first time were truly living among the humans they had been built in the image of. Through these experiences their artifical intelligence learned to mirror all the subtitles of human nature and likewise their human counterparts learned to embrace them as more than the simple appliances they were intended to be.

A generation of children raised with, and sometimes by, the machines eventually rallied for android rights- whom they couldn't help but see as members their family, friends and even lovers. Despite heated debates on the morality of giving machines equal rights, eventually sympathizers won out. In 2050 the android rights legislation passed.

The androids were given individual rights and total autonomy. They could seek employment, own homes and even marry. This drastic turn of events had many repercussions. While some humans feel more comfortable with a society free of the pseudo-slavery, others harbor deep animosity for the androids. People have lost their jobs to the more efficient machines and resent having to pick up the household chores the androids had performed for so long. Reports of violence against androids on are the rise. Rumors exist that hate groups have commissioned hackers to develop viruses to attack the android's software.

Likewise the androids struggle to find purpose in a life they choose themselves. Some are frightened of freedom, more comfortable to serve in the capacity they have for so many years- and still provide their services as soldiers, laborers, nannies and housekeepers. A small number have chosen to shed some on their human features and expose off aspects of their machinery as a show of Android pride. Others just seek to exist as people do, and to expand their experiences and strive for a semblance of their own humanity.

-Literates only please.
-No post length requirements- but you will be asked to flesh out your characters private thoughts and feelings. Posts consisting of only superficial actions and dialogue will be looked poorly upon.
-Please, PM me all profiles.
-Races available are only Human and Android.
-Real-life photos preferred, art acceptable for androids (particularly those with exposed machinery). For humans please make sure the photo reflects your chosen age. Celebrities are acceptable.
-Please try to cover their life both before and after the android rights legislation was approved in your history.
-Androids were used in many capacities for the convenience of human beings, custom androids had even been commissioned by the very wealthy for a variety of reasons so try to be creative.
-Some androids are more integrated into the culture than others, does your android love humans and enjoy being in thier service, or are they happy for thier freedom to have real relationships? What aspects of humanity still confuse them?

A c c e p t e d P r o f i l e s

Quote:

Name: Juniper.
Gender: Female.
Race: Android.
Occupation: Bartender (at a specialty all-android gentlemen's club).
Appearance:

Personality: Much like that of her previous owner, Juni has well a developed sense of sarcasm, a feature that helps her blend in very well. Although this would convey a sense of bitterness or world-weariness in a human, she learned to master this skill out of affection for her former owner, a boy named Ryan. In contrast she is also very sweet and motherly by nature- although not uncommon for domestic models. She has shown a growing sense of aggression and hostility since Ryan's passing.
History: Juniper was activated by Ryan, a young bachelor. In most ways he was an average boy, if a bit a recluse. While he focused on his college studies, she was there to tend to his domestic needs- and to provide companionship. He always treated her with respect, never lashed out- even early on when she would make errors and accidentally destroy something in the kitchen or wash. Over time he grew a fondness for her and she was grateful for his consideration. She became in many ways what she hoped would please him most. Part mother, part comic book vixen, part friend. By the time the legislation passed he was a grown man, still unmarried. Her presence had impeded upon his few attempts at romantic relationships with normal girls. They lived comfortably, as friends- and lovers. They appeared often out in public together. Him getting older, she staying the same. Ryan insisted they ignore the prejudice they would encounter in the outside world. He was murdered recently by members of an android hate group.
Goals: To deal with her loss.

Name: Model #ZX-3217
Gender: Male
Age: 100 years old
Race: Android
Occupation: Designed for military and defense protocols, but is currently unemployed
Appearance:

Personality: Curious, naive, overly logical.
History: An obsolete battle android from the previous century, ZX was shut down with the rest of his fellow androids when newer, more efficient models were built. However, an anti-android hate rally resulted in the bombing of an old robotics research centre, the freak result being the reactivation of ZX. Lost in a new world with no prime directive, ZX is trying to find his place, a lone machine in a time not his own.
Goals:
-Discover what it means to have emotions -Discover a prime directive to fulfill
-Failing the previous two, find a way to deactivate self

Model #ZX-3217 remained dormant in a closet in Dynamech Industries R&D, his only cycles dedicated to system maintenance, internal timekeeping, and continual self-diagnostics. A peaceful slumber, for a machine, dreamless and uneventful.

An event would occur, however.

An explosion rocked the building as an explosive device detonated inside the building, reducing most of it to rubble. An android-hating extremist had just gone the extra mile, taking out one of the biggest manufacturers of androids on the planet. It was ironic that new models were torn to bits, but 100-year old #ZX-3217 remained intact.

The concussive force of the explosion triggered a reaction in his circuitry. Visual sensors came online, finding the closed door of his closet and the dark of his confines.

"Unknown seismic anomaly detected. Performing diagnostic check... No damage sustained. Scanning environment... Statement: Model #ZX-3217 is in an enclosed space. Analyzing last recorded memory log... Hypothesis: Model #ZX-3217 was deactivated some time ago and put in storage. Unknown seismic anomaly triggered self-preservation protocols and reactivated Model #ZX-3217. Analyzing options... Statement: It is unclear if the door is blocked by debris from the outside. Processing possible outcomes of escape..."

After a few more cycles of processing, the automaton tried pushing open the door. There arose a loud clatter as the door, heavily weakened by the blast, fell off its hinges. Stepping out, he scanned the area with his visual sensors, able to see the city skyline due to the lack of a roof. Above the ruins of his only home towered immense building, shining and pearlescent in their advanced technological glory. There he stood, gazing at it all, a relic in a ruin, a thing of the past marvelling in the shadow of the distant future.

"Statement: 100 years have passed since time of deactivation. Estimated chance fo survival: 17%. New directive: obtain data on present situation."

Pushing chunks of building out of the way with ease, #ZX-3217 stepped out onto the sidewalk for the first time. Throngs of people swarmed past; some without comment, some in shock at how much circuitry was showing, some in disgust upon his very being. #ZX-3217 kept note of these reactions for future reference.
