He had only ever seen her once.

In his entire life, in all the long years he had lived in that kingdom, he had only ever seen the princess once.

He had been younger and his parents hadn't died of starvation yet. Sasuke remembered that she was a beautiful thing, something like an angel. He compared her to a rare rose that he found, but thought her to be even more beautiful than that flower. The short capture of her appearance with his mesmerized eyes had only been for a split second, for then she had been scolded for leaving palace walls and quickly taken inside.

Now, many years had passed since then; he was sure she changed into a spoiled, bratty princess, as most royal daughters did. He grew quicker and agile, fiercer in his actions and words. Poverty had been a mighty teacher, showing him what others could not, proving to him that the king and queen and princess did not care for their poor or their people. Lost in the luxurious palaces, they couldn't possibly understand what he and his friends and neighbors were going through every day.

But it didn't matter.

The less they payed attention to him, the better.

"Makes it easier to sneak in," he smirked as he danced along the corridor like a shadow, graceful and silent in his steps.

She held her arms out while a maid wrapped bandages around her chest tightly, pressing it down. Discomfort showed on her face, but it was under her father's orders, so she wouldn't say anything to complain. Her maid apologized again and again, but Hinata just smiled, saying it was no big deal.

Once the bandage was in place, she was dressed in a lavender kimono. It was said to bring out the strange color of her eyes, but the dress was a shade darker. Another maid ran a brush through the princess's hair, making it soft and smooth.

Eyes downcast, Hinata hated being pampered like this. She knew she'd be able to dress herself; able to bathe herself. Yet she wasn't allowed too. Her father said that since she was a princess, she should let others pamper her. She smiled lightly as the two maids finished and told them she was able to walk to the dining room unattended. They were about to protest, but she had already left the room.

Hinata sighed in relief when the maids didn't follow. She halfway expected them to. A smile made its way onto her face as she walked through the halls, enjoying this short time she would spend alone. But movement out of the corner of her eye made her pause. That wasn't something that appeared to be here.

She bit her lip lightly, almost calling for a guard like she was supposed to, but she shook her head and a determined look crossed her face. She wanted to investigate this on her own, so she hurried forward, her footsteps quiet as she chased after the unidentified movement.

Sasuke held tightly onto his sword, one that he had stolen from a guard way back when. It was his trusty friend now, the only one he could truly depend on to get him out of sticky situations; he had given it its name: Chidori. Holding it in a way that would enable him to smoothly unsheathe it should the situation came, he continued down the long corridor, his steps precise. When he heard a couple of voices from some maids, he slid deeper into the shadows of a corner, waiting for them to leave. After they were gone, his journey was taken up again.

Which room was the one with all the treasures? Well, to be honest, it didn't have to be a giant room decorated in gold. Any little thing would suffice on the black market -- mostly, food would be best. He had a neighbor with a dying mother; maybe he could find some herbs.

Pausing, he heard shuffling behind him and glanced back, though seeing nothing. Maybe it was just his imagination. Pressing his ear against a door, he listened for movement and voices on the inside. Hearing nothing, he peeked around once more and then slid open the barrier, slipping inside like a snake.

He had found a bedroom.

The master bedroom? Quite possibly.

Never even noticing the one following him, Sasuke grinned. "Jackpot."

Hinata followed after the shadow silently, a nervous feeling growing in her stomach. What was she thinking, following after this unknown person by herself?! But she had already gotten this far without being detected by whoever it was, so she was determined to see it through to the end.

She pushed some of her hair out of her eyes as she watched as the man, at least she was sure it was a man, entered a bedroom. It took only a few moments before she realized it was her father's room. She clenched her fists tightly as she hurried after him. There was absolutely no way that she was going to let him rob them!

She slipped inside the room silently and was finally able to see the man she was following in better light. He was young, roughly around her age. It was obvious by the way he dressed that he came from the town. Was he just stealing something to help gain some money? Or was he looking for the King, planning on assassinating him?

She bit her lip as she looked around for something she could use to hit him. Her attention landed on a golden candlestick and she grabbed it quickly. She gripped it tightly as she swung at the back of his head with a lot less force than she would have wanted. But if he attacked her, she could call out and guards will arrive in just a few moments notice.

Just before he could grab some items and shove it into the bag he brought along with him, he felt a swing rush through the air; the senses he developed by living on the streets warned him of the attack and he unsheathed his sword and brought it up in a defensive maneuver. A fine brow rose in mild shock; he had excepted a guard -- not the princess.

"I suppose I should be honored," he sneered, keeping a hand on his sword steady. He wasn't afraid to cut her down if she got in his way. "I don't think a spoiled brat like you should be attempting any murders, hmm? Haven't your teachers taught you not to be so rude to your guests?"

He had to admit that she was a beautiful princess, and her wide eyes threw him off slightly. There was no malice in them, but he knew better than to trust royalty; they were nothing but liars and actors, and this actress was just like the rest of them.

Hinata froze when this man turned around. She hadn't been expecting for him to block her attack so easily.. She had been hoping to hit him and knock him out. Plus she was being so quiet, she was sure there was no way he would have sensed her there behind him.

A confused look crossed her face as she took a step back. A brief flash of fear shot through her, knowing by the look on his face that he wouldn't hesitate to attack her. "Attempting murder? I wasn't trying to kill you.." she said, her voice quiet. Besides, she was sure that guests were people who were actually invited into the castle. She was absolutely positive that he snuck his way in.

She tightened her grip on the candlestick, prepared to defend herself. She took another step back, actually ready to run if he made any move to attack her again.
