Let's talk about books. Books we have read, books we want to read, books we are reading, and anything else related to books.

YES

In preparation for the fourth season starting on HBO this month, I've been rereading all the books. It's well worthwhile. Getting through them is a pretty big time commitment, but the story and characters are honestly so rewarding. You get more detail than the show could ever give you. I adore these books - It's an epic story being told in language that's easy to follow and understand, so even if you're not a hardcore reader, it's possible to follow the plotline without getting too bogged down in irrelevant details.

Well I am a hardcore reader. Though I just did buy myself the first three volumes of Knights of the Zodiac on my tablet.

A Song of Fire and Ice has to be one of the most intense series I have read. The characters are incredible. You should definitely give those books a shot. Martin is just a bit long winded, but the tales he weaves keep you hooked. I haven't watched too much of the HBO series, but from what I have seen, they are doing immense justice to these amazing characters.

Personally I would say no. I've been watching some of the show with my fiance. From what I gather they're really long and complex. I'm honestly have a hard time following who is who and what all is going on. The books are structured so that each chapter is told from different character's points of view. I'm not a huge fan of that format. Also, you can't get attached to the characters at all because so many of them die and there's a lot of sex/blood/adult themes if those sorts of things bother you. I know tons of people really like the books, but personally I don't plan on reading them.

Those sort of themes don't bother me at all. And I haven't seen any of the show. My only exposure to the show is what I see posted on Tumblr. I know my mom read the first book and enjoyed it.

Even with the themes within the book and the format of each chapter being in a different characters point of view the books are excellent. I just wish that GRRM wouldn't take so long with the last few. I was mildly disappointed with how A Dance With Dragons played out, but it was a good book none the less.

A lot of the characters do die. I got a attached to a few and they ended up dying just a few chapters later. They take a lot of time to read, so they may not be for everyone.

Might have to do that. Right now I'm reading The Keys To The Kingdom Series by Garth Nix.

To the characters themselves, yes. But not to the story as a whole. Generally I prefer to stick to the books. Who on Earth KNOWS when book 6 will be out.......

I need more books to read. I have a few more books lined up since I started a new series. Ack! 40 books may have ended up being too much for this year! We'll see how the rest of the year pans out...

Right now I'm reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay- the inspiration for the series, Dexter. I really love it, I love Dexter. He's so adorably twisted and yet in a certain way, he's very naive and almost innocent. I like the book much better than the tv series, personally. I'm also reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. It's a weird book, for sure, but not bad. I'm not crazy about his writing style, but the story is interesting. I just finished Lasher by Anne Rice and I wasn't too thrilled about it. She has some very strange sexual ideas despite her being a supposed Catholic. I think it's funny that she is writing about Lestat again.

Have you read the other books in the series. I think, if I am remembering correctly, InkDeath is the third book. Oh I started a book club. If you guys are interested in joining.

You should! It's a very absorbing read. I have not finished it yet, but it's so far, winning me over pretty badly.

But I couldn't find them.
