You're right about My Chemical Romance not being emo, but slitting you're wrists is NOT emo.

Gonna have to say I love Sunny Day Real Estates, Taking Back Sunday, The Postal Code, etc, but I haven't ever really rated the emo bands on which is the most emo. xD

I like My Chemical Romance best for an emo bad, the the band that I think is most emo is Weezer. (just look at their lead singer)

I define it with anything having to really do with love, or life is a certain aspect pertaining to how they and a partner, or around that, are at a certain point in time. Also, singing about their type of being at a certain time that is either sad, or emotion, happy, etc. is considered emo. =] Most of the music I think, but people are too stubborn to know that. They think it "brings" them down. I don't see what's so wrong!

(Except Sunny Day Real Estate, but I think they're technically post-emo.)

Most (but not all) of the bands listed so far are POP-ROCK.


Now...MOST emo, I don't know. But Moss Icon probably started the genre. xp Rites Of Spring is said more often, but...a lot of people agree that they're not really quite emo. They lead the direction, but a lot of people say Moss Icon was really the first true emo band.

it's hard to stick a genre on a band because every band has its influence who've been taken by other genres etc etc..

and mcr is everything but emo. They actually hate it, being called emo (I read).

  Most bands are considered emo depending on what the lyrics are. And that means alot of these bands are emo.
  
  Search it up on wiki. It says that those bands are usually refered to as emo. Even if they didn't start emo such as you like to think, it doesn't make them none emo.
  
  

I'm really not sure what I'd consider most emo, but I laughed a lot when I saw Dropping Daylight listed as 'emo' on Rhapsody.

I must put a vote in for Bright Eyes. Connor is so emo! When they gave a free concert in Omaha last summer, I think, it began to rain and Conner said something to the effect of God crying because of all of the suffering in the world.

Emo music is not what most people think it is. EMO is a sub-genre of punk. Emo does not mean emotional. OH MY GOD!

Actually, i don't know... or to be more exact, don't remember any. Not fan of emocore.

i agree with alain. a lot of you are just going on lyrics. many bands use sad lyrics describing love/failure/heartbreak and numerous other things that make them sad. the only bands who are truly emo are the really old ones who were true to the meaning. nowadays everyone claims "emo" is wrist slitting, being depressed and wearing black. the jocks and preps wear a lot of black and they aren't suicidal. people who cut their wrists either really need help, or are just crying for attention. also, just because one listens to "hawthorne heights" that does not mean they are "emo" or cut themselves to sleep at night. i enjoy emo music (emotive rock), and not all of the songs classified as emo are depressing. i do not mean to rant it's just i get frustrated at how easily people turn to the media to see what new things are. i know i am going to get reamed out for this so i will just.. shut up now..
