Oh, god, spoiled children just bother me so much... I refuse to spoil her. She is loved, and cherished, but we don't spoil her. We don't have the kind of money to get her everything that she wants, but that doesn't mean that she'll be lacking. When she throws tantrums, we don't pay her attention. She's being watched, but we don't acknowledge her. Although one could say she is spoiled with love and affection.

I agree - I just dislike it when people just seem to assume that just because she's young, she's spoiled in a bratty way. I'd never let any child of mine be that way. *sighs*
Hi hummy. How're you doing, dear?

I think spoiling your child a little bit is fine. Overly spoiling them to the point where they are bratty and demand to get whatever they want is really bad, but spoiling them a little so they feel special is fine. In my opinion, anyway.
thanks, hummy! :D

I don't see spoiling a child as a good thing, no matter what - I mean spoiling with love is one thing but seeing the need to spoil them with clothes and toys, something totally different. To me at least. One really doesn't need material things to know that they're special, loved and adored.

What is your definition of spoiling them with toys? Like getting them a new toy once ever few months when they are behaving? or just getting them everything they want whenever they want it?

I think people have different definition of what is spoiling. XD
And at the end of the day, the people would find out that whatever they meant was the same. XD

I don't have anything against someone giving her toys. But she doesn't need a pile of toys, honestly. It's not like she even plays with them all. She has this toy horse that she carries with her everywhere and a small handful of toys that are her favorite. But I've taken to donating toys, and clothes that she's out grown to shelters so that other kids who are less fortunate than we can find use for them. I'm not for giving a toy for good behavior though. Because knowing my daughter as I do, she'll find interest in it for just a few days and then it'll become one of those toys that's in the pile in her room that she never plays with again.
I've had people think of spoiling as being 'omg, you want that, I'll get that and that and this and that..' and buying everything and just giving the child anything and everything they want... which I just see as being something that causes those children later when they're older throwing tantrums because mum or dad won't give them what they want and I refuse to have a child like that.

I bought some frozen rice bun things when I was out earlier so I steamed some of those. They're nice but very filling.
My great aunt told me I was spoiled at Christmas when I was younger... because of the presents that my parents and grandparents had bought with money they'd put aside every week and saved all year to spend at Christmas time. :|

Growing up, I was spoiled with love and affection... and a few trips over seas, but my Granny and P were the ones paying for flights there and back, so that wasn't mum and dad. So it's allowed because it was my grandparents. But they didn't spoil us to the point of us being spoiled brats. *chuckles*

Oh, the trips over there were once we were older and most of us flew alone over to the UK (I grew up in the states but my mom's family all lives over in England), So we had to be old enough to fly alone over there. Last trip we made over there was when my twin and I were 19. :)

Livi: That is extreme spoiling. I totally understand hating that. A child never grows up when they are spoiled in that way. When I say spoil them a little, I mean getting them just a little something that they have wanted for a while. Not get a ton of items. I know every child would love to get everything they ask for, but that's not always possible and when they get older they understand that. But it always feel special when you get them something they've wanted for a while.
I'm a little spoiled and I admit it. But I don't demand everything I see or throw fits when I don't get something. I feel a little disappointed, but who doesn't?
kat: I don't see how you are spoiled for that. :|

Momo: Yeah, but see with my daughter being the age that she is, she doesn't need a mountain of toys as my friends seem to think she should have. She's only 20 months old.
